Light food, sake, frequently reasonable prices, and a whiff of the exotic. It's a good go-to. Plus it makes for an easy bounce to another venue, since you're not going to sit there all night drinking rice-wine.
That being said, I'm relatively young, and women I've dated have been pretty happy to go Dutch. Haven't had a date order an appetizer on my dime yet.
