Testing the Suit: Upper Class, College Bar, Diver bar

Thanks for the great write up. I would like to have some custom suits made, but not until I am in proper fighting shape. I've got some Gucci loafers waiting (I'd like to give G the credit for that but they were a gift from before I ever read him).

I find it interesting that the suit works in an upper class and lower class environment the best, which is how G always rolls, but not in a middle class environment. The dominant emotion of the middle class in fear, so that makes sense. Fear of not doing as well as someone else, fear of losing everything, fear of not fitting in, etc. Fuck middle of the road joints, I am sure they are filled with boring people as well. I wouldn't doubt that is where you would get the most hate, and probably the most fights.

It is a sad thing really that our society is so degraded that we actually get nervous and write up reactions about dressing with class and style. Below is a picture of a breadline in the 1930's. Now remember these were men who couldn't afford food, yet look at the self respect they demonstrated in how they carried themselves - each one suited up:

Here's another:

There was a time when there were no such things as casual clothes, or definitely not as casual as now. At that time, a casual shirt was a button-up, collared SHORT SLEEVE shirt! You still wore slacks and hard leather shoes. I look at family pics of my dad from when I was young, and even before I was born. He was always dressed much like the men in the pictures. He wore fedoras also. Even for a casual get-together at a friend's house, all the guys were dressed, and the women in dresses. Throughout time, fashion is one of those things that changes drastically. It's easy to bemoan the change, but it also provides the opportunity for us to stand out. Now, even the workplace, the one place where you HAD to dress, has relaxed the standard. It's just another opportunity for the more daring man to make a mark.

"The best kind of pride is that which compels a man to do his best when no one is watching."
