Calling the cops would have been the best way to handle the situation but it still takes time for police to arrive;

In this case choosing to intervene meant death.......but only for the white knight. The original "victim" was fine. Fuck that, police response times are not my concern. Here is a simple to test that determines whether a behaviour constitutes white knighting:

Would you instinctively charge in to save a dude getting his head slammed into a car?

I doubt it. You'd be more likely to assume that the situation isn't black and white and refuse to risk your life and limb for a stranger.

There are few instances in which bystanders will watch 2 guys fight each other to the death; A majority of the time people WILL step in to stop a fight between men (I have stopped quite a few fights).

Truth be told I have never seen a fight between 2 guys (excluding gangs) that did not end with people jumping in to stop it; or 1 of the guys calling it quits and walking away.

The more civilized the area the higher the probability of people intervening.

I agree with Vicious. Good guy doing a good thing for the wrong person.

Some of the responses in this thread remind me of McQueens' post about game versus lifestyle and how so many guys here see things as only black and white.

Yes. I don't know the backstory, which could be anything from kicking him in the balls two minutes earlier to making him raise another man's kids. Would you intervene if you saw a man doing it to another man? Be honest. If not, you're a white knight.

You really have to see the situation, not just look at it. Woman getting beaten by a random man on the street who's trying to take her purse? Beat the bastard. Woman getting beaten by a loved one? Don't intervene. Chances are you'll get hurt and she'll probably take her family member's/ boyfriend's side.

Its not black and white. You need to have situational awareness.

Empathy means "the intellectual identification with or vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another." If I were present when a woman began to be assaulted by a man she chose to be with, I would feel plenty of empathy and would wish the best for her -- as I got the hell out of there to avoid any trouble for myself or mine.

We can feel empathy without risking our own lives to save others from their bad decisions.

Is there any doubt that this White Knight made the wrong decision? His kids will grow up without a father. If he could go back and relive that night, there is no doubt in my mind that he would reconsider risking his family's well being to save some 'hood rat from her own boyfriend.

A month back he bit off a good portion of her face and she was hospitalized. She still wanted to keep him. I didn't even bother learning how this story ended. What does it matter? If they put down her pit bull, she'll just go out and get another.

I think you'd have to look fairly hard, the VAST majority of men would never dream of laying a finger on a woman. Why isn't she with one of them? The answer being, obviously, no vagina tingles to be found there for her. Women like this always seem to have strings of multiple 'abusive' partners, total coincidence and bad luck I'm sure.

Here's the real clincher: It happened on his property.

If I saw two men slamming each other into their car in my driveway... I'd be damn sure to ask what the fuck they are doing. And I'd call the cops ASAP. And if it was extremely violent of course I'd break it up and tell them to either take it somewhere else or just stop altogether.

That said, the guy who was stopping the fight did go a little out of his way to be a white knight because he clearly sided with the girl and even hit the man in order to defend the girl. While this is slightly white knighting, let's remember he wasn't actively going out into society and looking to white knight. He was in his fucking driveway, on his property, the one place in the world where a man expects peace.

On top of that, he was a happily married black man raising his two-year old son in a country where 70% of black children are raised in a single-parent home (i.e. no father). Fucking tragedy all around; I hope they catch these cocksuckers and put them to death.

seeing this happen a lot more, and somewhere where a bunch of morons signed a petition to not put down a pitbull that decimated a kid. A sign at how truly fucked modern america has become.
