How To Wear A Pocket Square in Pictures

Just purchased a new blazer, it's a cheap one for now since I'm in the process of job searching, I didn't want to splooge too much before I had a steady flow of cash. My other blazer just wasn't good for interviews. I also just purchased my first pocket square. It's just a plane white one, but goes smooth with the black blazer.

I'm thinking this is a good look folding wise, this is pretty close to what my blazer looks like as well...

Talking about pocket squares, I stumbled across the music video, the singer got some peacocking going on in his front pocket. Check it out, it actually looks pretty good, I might say.

Music starts about a minute in:

That sounds a little dicey.

When I wear my blazer with my Gucci shades, I've been told that I look like a cartel member. I can dig that. I'll take it as a compliment.

I personally dislike the red-white-and-blue combo and try to avoid it at all times.

You don't want some f*ckhead coming up to you and saying "You look like an American Flag".

But that could be your steez, I don't know. It is also really hard to critique a look without the person. What a brother looks good in may be different from some guy looking like Andy Garcia to a Nordic cat with blond hair.

I would try a baby blue pocket square. But I should tell you, I don't like blue shirt either. Too office.

But the important question to ask is: How do you feel in it?

G, what about a tie? How low should it come down? I usually wear mine just about to my belly button. Sometimes I feel like it's a little too long because you can see it coming out of my blazer when I only button the top button. Is that alright?

I like my tie to reach my belt buckle.

The tie should be tied so that the widest part of the bottom triangle of the tie touches the top of your belt buckle.

Cool, thanks for the info. One more question: Should I wear a pocket square to a job interview?

@InternationalPlayboy
You can wear it but make it subtle, avoid crazy colors too.
For a interview I'll stick to something traditional and simple, but that's just my opinion.
Try to consider also what type of job you want to get, if you search for some creative job you can dare more, of course

Sound info, I agree with making it subtle. Mine's white so it's low profile, but I don't know about the way I'm wearing it, maybe I should tone it down from the way I posted above?

If it's white you can wear it like Don Draper, from the show Mad Men.
It's very classic, stylish and "safe".
You can check it on google pictures to find some examples.
Good luck for your interview!

In my opinion, a pocket square belongs to a suit all the time, it does not play a role if you wear the suit for a job interview or for a normal business day.

I wore a white pocket square for a job interview at a consulting firm and got the job. Just fold it like Don Draper and you should be on the safe side for a job in a more traditional field. Of course, when the company is less formal, you can go with a more exciting fold for your pocket square.

Some guys here are saying match it with the shirt and others are saying avoid doing that. Are there any basic ground rules? [Image: undecided.gif]

You have five main options. You can choose which style works for you, but there are really only a couple choices you can make.

1 - Wear a pocket square that matches the tie (I recommend this for formal occasions where peacocking may be frowned upon).

2 - Wear a pocket square that matches the shirt.

3 - Wear a pocket square that simply compliments the shirt or the tie. (Note: This is also a good formal approach.)

4 - Stick with white regardless of the shirt/tie color. It's hard to go wrong with white.

5 - Wear a pocket square that has nothing to do with anything you're wearing.

I deliberately chose pictures where the guy wouldn't become the main focus and people could take a closer look at the style.

If you are going to impose your will on the world, you must have control over what you believe.

Bump.

Got my first blazer a week ago (it's currently at the tailor's for a minor adjustment).

Meanwhile, thought I should research a bit about pocket squares and this thread popped up. RVF delivers as usual.
