on the NYT's 45 Places To Go in 2012. I've been telling cats about Panama for years. Glad to see it getting its recognition.

Whenever a location makes it to the top of such a list, I make a note not to go. They are targeted towards tourists, not guys like us. Look at their top 10 and ask if those places get positive reports here:

1. Panama. No one has said it's better than Colombia.
2. Finland. http://www.hel-looks.com
3. Myanmar. ?
4. London. The best part of London is the foreign chicks, that you could get by going to the source.
5. Oakland, CA. Now they're just trolling.
6. Tokyo. Could be good.
7. Tanzania. Doubt they'll have hotter than Ethiopia or Angola.
8. Patagonia. Been there, took the pretty pictures.
9. Tibet. Stuff white people like.
10. Cuba. Worth a visit.

I think we need to construct our own top 10.

Haha. I think Panama is going to be fucked now. More gringos are starting to consider it as a place to retire. There's several articles about that now. Costa Rica is practically an American state, and Panama is on its way to becoming the same way, even though it was bought by America, it's still less gringo than CR.

Panama is a great place to set up a remote business, especially if you're in the type of industry that facilitates trade or information between Latin American countries and North America. They've got first world facilities and internet, great nightlife, people from all over the Americas and Europe, and it's a pretty cheap place to set up shop.

And if you like p4p, most of the pros are Colombianas.

Agreed on the list. As for Panama v. Colombia, it depends on what the subject is. Colombian girls are without question hotter, but Panama is more wordly than Colombia. You find women from all over the world in Panama (well, Europe, NA, and LA at least).

Also, in terms of first world amenities, Panama without question. It's just an easier place to fall back, especially if you still need to handle business.

Ever try opening a bank account in Colombia? It could take forever if you're an American. I know one guy that took him 2 years, and he even needed a letter from his local congressman.

Panama is an international banking hub and you can't walk more than a block without passing a few ATM machines. Opening a bank account is effortless.

If you're trying to get away from the US and North American culture altogether, than yeah, Colombia would be much better. Panama is way too Americanized. They even celebrate two independence days (one from Spain and one from Colombia, which the US bought from them).

Panamanians are way too influenced by the culture of the United States. There's a distinct difference between Central American countries and South American countries. The latter are far more nationalistic and proud, with each country having its unique identity. Some people really dig that, and that's what I like about South America.

Central America has always been seen as the US backyard, being dominated by US cultural hegemony. You're starting to see some changes on the political front with some countries, but culturally they are more humble and less nationalistic and unique compared to South American countries.

Panama is like the final frontier, a bridge between these two worlds.

You yourself opened a thread on love of Montreal. I would never choose Panama over Montreal, and definitely not over Colombia.

I've banged my lions share of Panamanian girls, and hell no, they don't come close to Colombian or Brazilian women in bed.

Why compare Panama with Colombia? Panama has a little over 3 million people while Colombia has about 45 million people. I agree with your cultural assessments of both. I think a better comparison to Panama might be Costa Rica, but with any country you have to enjoy it for what it is.

Ha. I plan on moving to either the Sora-Coronado area of Panama (1 hour outside Panama City) or southern pacific area of Costa Rica late in 2012. Need to do dig around them in April/May to see the better fit.

Overrall, did you notice any big differences in the quality of the people between Panama and Costa Rica?

I can't be the only one who doesn't travel exclusively for women on here, can I? I still go to places that appeal to me in a cultural / historic / touristy way. You can have sex anywhere in the world.

You don't even have to confirm what I'm about to write, your post says it all: you have NEVER, EVER been to Colombia.

Otherwise, saying the only thing Colombia is good for is sitting at a mall and getting numbers with no beaches or outdoor activities would never be there.

Colombia has some spectacular beaches, lakes, and a SHITLOAD OF OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES, including paragliding, rock climbing, and even whale watching on the pacific coast if that's your thing.

But you're right, maybe Colombia is not the place for you....don't go.

I must be saying some shit here, but till now all guys that I know who lived in Panama(for business reasons,on company budget) hated it.They have told me the worst things about the girls there and the country - I imagine a total shithole.

I was working for a big swiss pharmaceutical who has branches in Panama - so I know these guys from work. They are in the 30 - 50 yr old range. Spanish , swiss and Brazilians.

Its a total surprise for me to hear something positive about panama.

Just being in the Panama City airport several times, I got the impression that the women were uglier, less friendly, and much more americanized than Colombianas or other latinas. Going there for business reasons is one thing...going there for pleasure is another, especially when you have so many other better options.

Agree with you partly, Gary. Though Ive already done too much of the touristy stuff and activities, in many countries, to prefer that over women chasing. I´ll take sitting in the mall or hitting on a cute girl on the beach in Colombia or Brazil any day over paragliding, whale watching, mountain climbing in Thailand, Greece, Australia, etc.
In Colombia, I just read books, went out and banged girls but never found myself bored.

i never bagged colombia -its great for women, no doubt, particulary for those who find it hard in western countries. just saying i dont travel overseas purely for women..i like everything all in one spot

in thailand (one example) i can be on a a beautiful beach getting a massage, drinking, with great bars/clubs 100m away, women everywhere from everywhere, eating, drinking, snorkeling, jet skis, para sailing, zoos, muy thai shows etc etc everything u want right there..7 days a week

kingofscotland asked if there was anyone who doesnt travel JUST for women...

i am one of those people..that's all.

You're totally right. I only made the comparison after seeing Roosh mentioning the two along those lines, but Panama can only be fairly compared to other Central American countries. For me, I choose Panama over Costa Rica any day.

What I like about Panama is it's like the Brazil of Central America while Cuba is like the Brazil of the Caribbean in terms of the racial mix. They all have naturally racially mixed societies.

Some money must have exchanged hands to include Oakland on the list. The NYT has a mixed record with their rankings. They named Beirut as the number one city to visit in 2009, which I could agree with. But DC was no. 2 that year, or no. 1 or 2 in 2010, which I think most people on this forum would strongly disagree with. Then again, DC might be a different experience for visitors vs. locals. I don't know.

I used to live in Oakland though, and I don't see how it seriously made this list. Good luck trying to get a decent cup of coffee in Oakland after 8pm. That city becomes a ghost town. To its credit, it does have a great farmer's market on weekends and nice up and coming restaurants (hella local, seasonal, organic food), but it doesn't belong on a top ten cities of the world list. That's outrageous.

Yeah. There's a huge difference. IMO, Panama is much more laid back than Costa Rica. Costa Rica has been completely taken over by gringos. To really get away in Costa Rica, you pretty much have to go to the Caribbean coast, where gringos have nonetheless been making significant inroads over the years. However, it's not really developed, at least compared to the Pacific side, which is chockful of hotels and resorts and tourist amenities. You have gringos who've been living there for years and still don't speak Spanish. That's crazy to me.

Ticos (Costa Ricans) also look considerably different from Panamanians. Panamanians tend to have various racial ancestries while Costa Ricans look pretty much the same.

I think both people are generally friendly and hospitable, though. You shouldn't have a problem getting to know and befriending locals. You'll have a less gringo experience in Panama though.

I agree with everything you're saying, but as far as being in a latin culture with worldly people, Panama is great. It's really in many ways like Miami but far more chill and less pretentious. You can really get business done in Panama yet still be in a latin country where you can enjoy life in a way you can't in the States. It's also cheap. I never paid more than $2-3 for a taxi ride in Panama City, even for long distances. You pay like $5 just to get in a cab in the US without having even gone anywhere yet. The restaurants in Panama are great too. There's people from all over the world there so you can find good Chinese food, Japanese, Venezuelan, Mexican, Lebanese, etc.

The nightlife is very developed as well. You've got calle Uruguay, via Argentina, via Espana, Zona Viva, Causeway, casinos, etc. There's lots to do and there are good looking women around. It's not Colombia, but for Central America, you can't get better.

I had a great time in Panama, which I will detail in another post. I lived large down there and met mad women from all over Europe while I was laying low in Bocas del Toro on my own beach house on an island with no roads. It was epic.

HC - what's your take on Panama? Why are you high on it?

Man, I loved Panama. Below are some pics of my beach house on Isla Carenero, which is an island that's part of Bocas del Toro--an island archipelago off the coast of Panama near the Costa Rican border.

I spent a lot of time there and got to know the locals real well. I had neighbors from Italy, Spain, etc. I went to dope parties with people from all over the world--Israelis, Australians, Argentinians, Europeans, etc.

It was truly awesome. If you go to Bocas today you can drop my name and people still know me there. I signed contracts in Spanish, networked with local business folks, lawyers, small business owners, etc.

I really loved how the islands were set up man, especially for nightlife. I'd just walk down to the end of my dock and hail a water taxi for like a quarter (Panama uses the US dollar). A place like Aqua Lounge would be on a strip of island in the Caribbean Sea. WILD parties man. Folks from all over the world. Cheap drinks. Shit was like Cancun man. I got laid every time I partied there on Friday and Saturday. Mad sluts. I'd get drunk silly and then hop in a water taxi back to my beach house. Shit was real optimal man. That's simply why I love Panama. I lived a whole different reality there.

Panama City also impressed me. I wasn't expecting much after having seen San Jose, but Panama City is truly an economic powerhouse. Panama actually has the fastest growing economy in Latin America. It's a top five destination in the world for retirees, and it has one of the strongest and easiest business climates for expats.

It's hard for me to objectively evaluate the place because when I think of it, I remember the people I know there and my friends. I would never recommend staying in a hostel there because you honestly don't need to. For like $500 a month, or less, you can live like a boss right near the beach.

Also, I'm not trying to hype the local talent, as I did not see anything like this, but these are famous pics of Panamanian chicas at a cricket match. It's gotten circulated quite a bit....

Below are some pics of my pad from my Facebook, and just chillin. I didn't take any pics of locals as my girl from the States was coming through, but they were decent. I put down a half puerto rican/panamanian chick who didn't even have hot water at her crib. She would wash her hair at my spot lol. I ran through lots of gringas down there. I was the only black guy on the island I lived on.
