Roosh, would interested to know what you response to the most common question you get in Eastern Europe as a foreigner,

"Why did you choose Latvia/Poland etc?!"

In Ukraine, foreign men are only here because it's cheap and there's pretty girls, and I tell them I am no different [Image: smile.gif]

"Sex and drugs". [Image: banana.gif]

Seriously, I remember Roosh saying he uses that.

Don't just stay in Riga, go to the second and third tier cities as well.

Third tier city in Latvia will be a village!

I've gone out 2 nights now... getting a decent picture of the place. It's not what I expected at all. I should have a good round up on Sunday.

Seems Latvia is a really small country, roughly the size of Houston.Maybe you should go to the second largest city then.

Here are my first impressions of Riga, Latvia:

I feel like I'm 10 years late to the party. This place is fully developed with a well-laid tourist infrastructure. I was surprised how capitalist it was with flashy store-fronts and marketing. There is nothing unexplored here, and it will be impossible to avoid following the trails of thousands of other tourist men. Right now the only foreigners are Erasmus students (mostly from Spain), but in summer I hear it can get uncomfortably packed with British and Italian dudes.

It's definitely harder. By the second night I knew I was in for a grind. I simply wasn't connecting. I felt humbled after being a rock star in Poland, and experienced a drop in confidence. Latvian girls are generally friendly and polite, especially during the day, but building any sort of connection is tough since they aren't talkative.

Girls are attractive, but... The top end is very impressive. I'm talking about magazine models with perfect faces, but if you take them out of the equation then I'm reluctant to hype them up. On average, Latvian girls have fine faces but there are too many thickies walking around (they're much fatter than Polish girls). It's a little hard to judge because during the day you see a lot of pretty girls, then at night you get these chubby yokel girls from the suburbs that greatly dilute the hotties in the club. If I came from USA or Denmark, I would probably be amazed, but coming from Poland I'm not impressed.

Frat scene. The guys are decent looking and have some style. It's not uncommon to see them suited up. They drink A LOT and aren't scared to approach, though they heavily rely on the dance floor. In Poland the girls would openly complain about their guys, but not here. Latvian girls definitely like their men. Leading to...

Foreign men sustain a negative hit in value. If you look the same as a Latvian guy, the girl will pick him over you, which wasn't the case in Poland. Subtract 2 points off your looks to get a feel for what you're dealing with.

Racist against blacks. A taxi driver told me that Obama is a monkey and a girl said she'd "never in my life" sleep with a black guy. I'd advise my black friends from home not to visit Latvia before a place like Poland, which is much more open to brothers.

Busted dudes test. It fares poorly. I'm not seeing pretty girls with ugly dudes. It's usually equal or the girl is slightly better looking.

Fewer looks. While I don't need girls to check me out, it's usually an encouraging sign. But here I'm getting very few looks.

Beware the Russian element. I can see guys getting surprised with bar scams or attacks from dudes, even though on the surface it doesn't seem like that type of place. For example, I was in a large, empty square talking to two girls at night, right next to the McDonalds. All was calm and peaceful. Then someone drove a shoulder in my back that almost knocked me to the ground. I turned around and saw four meatheads walking away. They did it just for the hell of it. The girls said they were probably Russian. As for Latvian dudes, they seem chill and friendly. It will be easy to avoid Russians since nightlife is mostly segregated with Russians going to their clubs and Latvians going to theirs.

Proud to be Latvian. In Poland, girls were self-loathing about their country. They complained about it and told me how much they wanted to go to America. I was like a bridge to their dreams. In Latvia I'm not getting this vibe at all. They love their country and also have a strong dislike for Russians, even though they speak Russian. On the bright side, Americans are more novel than any European guy. A couple people have said that America is "so far" and that they don't meet many. They're most familiar with Brits, Italians, and Spaniards, with the Brits having caused by far the most damage to our chances of getting the warmest responses. A girl told me the story of British dudes who were caught urinating on the the city's Freedom Monument, which is considered "an important symbol of the freedom, independence, and sovereignty of Latvia."

Flag captured. From Wednesday through Friday I was trying a lot of different things to get a feel for the best game to use on the girls (day and night), keeping it close to what worked in Poland. I got massacred, getting only two numbers out of around 30 approaches. Saturday I came up with a plan from those approaches then went to the club that I felt was so far the best. Instead of having to put that plan into action, I met a chatty and outgoing Latvian girl who lives in Britain. She got my standard American game, not nice guy Polish game. Funny part of the night was when I accused her of being a UK sex tourist, since the roles were reversed. I'd consider her an English groupie (Western expat / fan of the English language), so that means I still have work to do to figure Latvian girls out.

First impression conclusion: Riga has pretty girls and fun nightlife, but there are no easy pickens and you will have to hustle more than Poland to get a decent flag. Before I got my flag in Poland, most of the responses I got were quite warm, but in Riga I essentially got nothing until getting lucky on my fourth night out. What I'm experiencing here is most similar to Iceland than any other country I've been to.

Couple of years back spent 4 days in Riga and 4 days in Tallinn. I didn't get my flag in Riga but I did get one in Tallinn... I would have got a second but the nights are so drawn out that by the time it gets to 4 o clock I just can't be bothered. In general though I got far more interest from girls in Estonia than Latvia so I agree with you there Roosh. I get frustrated when I dont get eye's so dont count on good looks to get you anywhere.

Mostly Scandinavian (rather tall, fair skinned) with slight Russian influence. Lots of brown haired guys. My biggest surprise was they are real competition, not scraps like Polish guys.

Have you tried GManifesto method yet of going out custom suited? I remember a few high-class clubs in oldtown Riga with a tough door policy when I was there (6 years back) but lot's of model look alikes. Those places might be a bit more receptive to foreigners as they attract a more educated-traveled class vs. local dive pub which would have high % of disgruntled ethnic Russians.

Nice information. That Brit pissing in the fountain story is years old though, so I hardly think it's still a hot topic of conversation in Latvia. In Bratislava a Brit guy was dancing naked in a fountain haha.

One time when I was in Sofia I took a piss against the Italian embassy and the guard came out and caught me [Image: smile.gif]

And nothing compare to Ukraine, the other day I stood in human diarrhea!!!. A homeless guy took a dump right outside my apartment.

Good idea. I'm heading to Estonia next month have been using mamba to pipeline. I have got 5 very good contacts in Tallinn and Tartu. I have never been to the Baltics before. The Balkans is alot more familiar to me having lived there so this place is unknown territory.

Regarding the Russian guys, yeah they can be intimidating but once you get to know them, their fine. I was in Ekaterinburg in 2009 and it did feel a bit intimidating on the streets in the evening even though i'm white European. I stuck out like a sore thumb even when I dressed as a local. I got some stares off the local flatheads but did not get any problems. My Russian at the time was next to zero but I did manage to get my way around using my knowledge of Bulgarian. I did manage to meet an elderly ethnic Volga Bulgarian lady who was absolutley amazed to find an Irishman (attempting to) speking in her native tongue.

Roosh,

I value your opinion -- along with IntlSwag -- more than any other poster here, but I would definitely roll thru to Riga (during summer only). After all, it's only a ferry ride from Stocktown (my fave city). I got the hook up with some model-type honies from someone I know in Riga. So, I'm set.

Regarding the racist taxi driver: The cretin's prolly gonna contract a case of severe diarrhea when Pres. Obama wins re-election in Nov 2012. Thanks for the info, I won't be riding in anybody's taxi while I'm there.

As far as the biatch who told you she wouldn't ever sleep with a Black guy...well, not every female regardless of where she is will wanna get with brothas. That's quite OK by me. I don't need to step to every chick...there's more than enough who are down with brothas in the world.....

Just curious, if you knew beforehand that Latvian guys weren't jokes like Polish and Ukrainian guys, would you have instead chose Ukraine or Moldova over Latvia?

Sounds like a lot like what I thought it would be. Better developed compared to other FSU countries (which over time usually has a negative impact on the quality of women and higher bitch shields), not foreigner friendly, and racist (frankly, anywhere where there is Russian influence, you will find an uptick in racism...c'est la vie).

I was hoping that the quality of girls would fare better to Russia/Ukraine...but as you said...we are very late to the party.

When I went to Estonia last may I will admit that I did see a few Finnish girls that were as drunk as those shown in the video. But of course there are many more Finnish guys going there for the boos and women. I figured that Estonia is more culturally Scandinavian than the other baltic states.

Again, my experience in Riga, was that the high end Latvian clubs want to stay high end LATVIAN clubs. There is a lot of money in Riga, but the typical american thought of I have money, they are going to want my money doesnt work there. I was out with a well known/regarded latvian that ownes radio stations and owned a club that was top for 8 years (unheard of) and he STILL had to do some talking to the door guy to let me in, saying he would be responsible etc The high end local clubs dont want foreigners inside.

Also I found it was critical to mention I was NOT from the UK within the first few seconds of talking to women there, they HATE the asshole UK stag guys that come through. Their demeanor completely changes when they find out you are an american.

Roosh, I have a video of a few girls I picked up at the McDonalds, I will see if I can find it and post, its hilarious.

Not only that, but white women know that white men don't care for them sleeping with black men. So, it's highly unlikely that a white girl is going to admit to a white guy that she would sleep with a black man anyway.
