I just watched Eyes Wide Shut. I wasn't sure what to make of the movie at first. I was fairly young when the movie came out and all I knew about it was that there was some sort of infamous sex party scene.
The film had a dreamlike quality, with blurred lighting and a sense that something is not quite right. The scene with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman getting high and then having a blowout fight was interesting to watch as it unraveled.
Following the fight there was a feeling that sex was always right around the corner, right beyond the periphery of Cruise's awareness, with the wife of Cruise's patient, with the prostitute (she asks "would you like to come inside with me?" though I actually heard "would you like to come inside of me?", the strange situation with the costume dude and his daughter, very strange. I was captivated and wondered where it was all going.
The sex party scene was bizarre, to put it mildly. It actually called to mind the 'Secret Society' post by Tyler Durden. Once they found out he wasn't one of them, he had to leave. I've done some reading online and there seems to be many theories concerning this scene, even connecting it to Stanley Kubrick's death several days after filming.
Props to Tom Cruise for accepting roles in weird movies. Eyes Wide Shut, Vanilla Sky, Magnolia. Dude takes on some difficult films, which I appreciate.
If you want to get really deep into that rabbit hole, research Kidman's childhood. Specifically her father. And then watch the interview with Kidman following Kubrick's death. When she got the script, he had handwritten a note saying she should sit down while reading it.
Any links in particular? I had this opinion that Kidman is really phucked up before you wrote this, and now I want to know more.
Fiona Barnett accused Antony Kidman of ritual abuse of herself and his daughter, Nicole. She also claims that Antony participated in the murder of a young boy at Sydney University, I think. The claim is they flayed him alive, and that Nicole was present for it. Antony Kidman was a successful psychologist in Australia. Had his own university research arm set up and everything. Here's part one of a documentary called "Candy Girl".

Here is an article Fiona wrote for an independent publication:

From Dr. Kidman's wiki page:

In 1977, Kidman established the Foundation for Life Sciences, a non-profit organisation focused on youth mental illness. It was renamed the Antony Kidman Foundation after his death
Fiona has a website, here:

Then there is the story of how Nicole ended up on the silver screen. She was introduced into stardom by Liz Mullinar, founder of
Heal for Life, a clinic in Australia for abuse victims. There is no explicit mention of ritualized abuse on the website that I see, but many bloggers are eager to make the connection, such as this one:

All of this is unsubstantiated, as far as I know. But the two of them, father and daughter, have a a somewhat off-putting look. It's not visible at all angles. But it's there, as I'm sure you've noticed in Nicole.
