About the claims that there is more racial animus or violence today than there was in the recent past, I would love to hear some older members' perspectives.
I'm in my 20s, so my perspective doesn't go back very far.
Yes we have this, Ferguson, Trayvon Martin, etc.
But I know in the 90s and 80s there were also episodes like this, going back to the 70s and 60s it seems like even more so.
Does it seem accurate to say that the whole trend of violence between races being sensationalized is on the upswing, or is this more or less a constant that some younger members are just now becoming fully cognizant of?
It's just the media ramping up their long-con to unprecedented levels. Just look at those 2 incidents you mentioned:
The first one, Trayvon, didn't even happen. You have a narrative over "black babies' bodies" falling victim to "white racism" over an altercation in which a mestizo Hispanic shot a 6'2 black guy in self defense. It was self defense, so there was no racism, and neither of the parties were white, so there was
definitely no white racism. But the media happily put that stinking pile of shit in the laps of white people, and we're still holding it to this day.
The Ferguson fiasco? A 6'4, 220lb+ giant of a man commits assault and robbery, and shortly thereafter assaults a police officer and goes for his gun, resulting in him getting shot. Nothing to see here except a violent criminal meeting a violent end, but again the media spins a shitstorm and the narrative moves right ahead, reality be damned.
Why is this happening all of a sudden? Because the climate has perceptibly shifted. We've reached the point where Bruce Jenner is a woman, George Zmmerman is a "white Hispanic", and Haven Monahan haunts college campuses across the country. Who is going to dare and state the obvious? Nobody, because we live in an ideologically totalitarian state. The media can now operate outside the constraints of mere reality. It has enough power now not just to spin reality, but to create its own alternate versions of it, and nobody will stand up and call bullshit for fear of losing their jobs and in fact their place in society.
TLDR: media has more power than ever now, and since one of its primary objectives has been pushing the "white racist" narrative, it's no surprise that the incidence of media shitstorms over "white racism" grows in tandem with the media's power.
