Edward Snowden on John Oliver's "Last Week Tonight"

John Oliver really proving that he is top dog in comedy news these days. I thought this was going to be a joke but it's for real.

About 3/4ths of the way in Snowden and Oliver start talking about Dick Pics. Apparently that's the only context in which the American public cares about it's privacy.

Must watch video.

Damn look at his eyes as he is shown the street interviews. Saddest thing I've seen this year it makes me wanna cry. He's a good guy. Let's hope the motherfuckers don't get him.

Hahahaha, thanks for sharing.

I must admit I skipped to the interview but that was really worth the watch.

Props to Snowden for being actually pretty cool/funny.

I think Snowden has been reading the Florida thread.

Damn, you can tell he was genuinely upset at the interview responses. Whether you think what he did was right or wrong, people like him are few and far between. It's depressing (although hilarious at the same time) that this whole conversation has to be framed in the context of nude pics for the American people to pay attention.

Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.

I was impressed with his thoughtfulness. He had been painted as a drop out and a failure.

That's an impressive guy. Balls!!

Indeed. NYJ with a rather prophetic post from 2013:

What that man did takes balls. It's unfortunate he'll be spending the rest of his life looking over his shoulder whlist being forgotten by the American public after a week.

Anyone else noticed he's really the only non-american comedian on TV? I imagine that has a lot to do with it - since he wasn't raised in the U.S. he doesn't consider a lot of US nonsense normal. Basically, he has an outsider perspective and he can very clearly see the crazy.

Didn't like the interview at all. I understand John Oliver is a comedian and is trying to make humor out of this situation but its a very serious issue.
I'm not the type to have a strong opinion on political issues, but watching that interview frustrated me. Its sad the interview has to be dumbed down to a discussion about dick picks to get the point across.

There is a documentary on PBS called United States of Secrets that goes into more detail on what is actually going on if anyone cares to check it out.

He's not the only non-American comedian on US TV. The newest host of The Late Late Show is James Corden, who I think is a talentless unfunny cunt. It came as a big surprise to me to see that he got a job in US TV.

John Oliver's accent sounds really weird to me, I feel that he's putting it on a bit for the Americans. I grew up in areas near where he did and he sounds nothing like any British person I know.

You forgot to mention fat.

And yeah, you guys can keep him.

Some artists erected a statue of Edward Snowden on the Prison Ship Martyr's Monument in Brooklyn under darkness.

Unfortunately it was removed later that afternoon.

(Standing on the eagle's head to cover it.)

Artists later erected this in it's place:

To me at least, its not sad the discussion was framed using dick pics, or at least in the way you suggest.

I think he did it that way as a critique of how stupid and ill informed american citizens are.

John Oliver is an extreme leftist. Hence his bullshit on maternity leave and everything else progressive-moonbat-liberal. Claiming he can clearly see the crazy is ridiculous -- he's one of the people bringing the crazy to us and promoting it.

That's a pretty broad generalization. I won't deny he was way off with the maternity leave and other leftist nonsense. Not entirely surprising since paid maternity leave is an accepted practice in the UK. But that doesn't change the fact he's the only one (or one of very few) mainstream TV personalities calling out the crazy in American society and companies, which includes:
Standardized Testing
Government Surveillance
Elected Judges
Predatory Lending
...

He may be wrong about some things, but saying he's actually one of the people bringing the crazy is a bit over the top.

Luke 4:24: "Truly I tell you," he continued, "no prophet is accepted in his hometown."

It's terrible that we crucify our own like this. Maybe the only way Snowden could come back to the USA is with a Presidential pardon? Or would it take an act of Congress?

I'm still not sure why he thought it was a good idea to show his face after leaking the intel.
