Never watched the original series but if this new one is any good I'll check it out.

I didn't think this new episode was that great. Hopefully it gets better. Man do Mulder and Scully look old. Especially Scully.

The first few seasons of the X-files were classic. If you have interest and Netflix I would watch those.

Any torrents up for it yet?

I bought all 9 seasons on DVD when they were on sale, back in 2005.

Binge watched over a 6 week period during end of year break (had only seen a few seasons prior to that).

To me, X-Files is a bit like the series "Lost". Whilst far from perfect, there's an enigmatic allure, showing flashes of brilliance, which keeps you invested in the series throughout.

Not to dissuade anyone from checking it out, as it was quite good, but I do have some criticisms.

It felt like they tried to cram two episodes into one, it was unrelenting. There was limited subtlety at play and too much (cool) shit seemed to be revealed.

I guess they are trying to get a large viewership, but strategies like this do the opposite in my opinion. Keep people guessing and you keep them coming back.

And yes, they have inevitably aged. I do feel that they are playing up to this with Mulder though, to impart a "beaten" vibe in regard to his fruitless obsession.

Personally, I think they should've brought some fresh new actors in. Not to play the parts of Mulder and Scully, but to be their protege's of sorts. Switch things up a bit and have the guy be the (logical) sceptic, and the hot young female agent be passionate and at times irrational about conspiracies.

Mulder can do a Hank Moody on occasion and insert some innuendo.

SPOILER AHEAD!

Just watched first episode and i couldn't understand why Tad O'Malley in his
broadcast mentioned Scully and her work in hospital with kids?

Of course. When hasn't there been within a few hours or less of a TV show airing?

I'm about to watch the first episode now. X-Files used to be my favourite TV show, and I think I would probably still count it at or very near the top (and as far as drama/comedy shows go, Duchovny's Californication is at the top of my list).

I don't think most the fans of the show were really all that interested in seeing another John Doggett/Monica Reyes. It's Mulder and Scully we want.
But I'll reserve further judgment for another hour when I've watched the show. Reviews of the first episode have been lukewarm, but it's supposed to pick up. With only six episodes maybe it's going to consistently feel a bit like they need to try to accomplish too much.

Cool. Twin Peaks coming back, too.

Now if Breaking Bad make another season, we're in business.

They may even fix up Lost's final someday.

I'm getting ready to re-watch the series now, pulled a preview clip of the new HD widescreen remasters and DAMN. Netflix has them, and I believe they're coming on BluRay soon. These don't suck ass like the Seinfeld remasters, they actually had wide format film to work with this time, none of that bullshit cropping where you lose part of the original picture.

I think she looks pretty decent for her age. The show first aired 22 years ago and you're disappointed that they look older? wtf were you expecting?

The story fits them. They are both lonely careerists, and she's a weird, intelligent spinster.

I think the first episode was pretty good. Definitely a little too much talking and exposition but with only six episodes - and no doubt the hope of drawing in new viewers in addition to old fans - I guess it was hard to find a way around that.

As for Gillian Anderson, I thought she looked a bit older in the episode than for instance her recent appearance together with Duchovny on the Kimmel show. But lots of smiling and laughing and teasing tends to make a person look a little younger and more attractive than a near constant look of seriousness, sadness and worry.
She was never beautiful, so I think she looks good for 47.

What problem did you have with Lost's finale? I thought it was perfect.

I really had the hots for Scully back in the day. She was young, fresh, full of life and personality. In this last episode she reminded me of what happens to playdough when it's been out too long. Hard, rigid, cracked....just no life left in it.

Now the young girl in this new first episode was a real sweetie. Even with all those tummy holes, would still bang hard.

I found the episode enjoyable, a bit tacky at some moments but still enjoyable. The atmosphere is loyal to the source.

Would bang Scully without hesitation.

Yes, very nice. Annet Mahendru is her name. I first saw her in the tv show The Americans. Half Russian half Indian.

New episode just seemed weak. Mulder was off the reservation and went full conspiracy theorist with no evidence.

It also didn't explain how the govt knew about the ARV but left it alone until mulder and scully got the tour (unless Ted O Malley was a plant, but then they would have raided immediately before the tour happened.) Ted hitting on Scully was totally out of left field considering his SMV and her age.

Also Anderson looks plastic and Duchovny has not aged well.

All that said its no worse than other new series that start and take awhile to get their legs. Chemistry between the actors and consistency in the writing takes some time to smooth out.

Watched the two episodes that have aired thus far. I thought they were both pretty underwhelming and I honestly was bored a lot of the time. The rhythm and vibe just seemed really off to me. The direction, editing, writing, and acting are really weak at times.

I really hope the later episodes are better.

I saw the first one and part of the second. So far its decent. Seems low class to attack the network like the Bill O'Reilly digs. Why attack shows on your own network? I think they missed an opportunity to blame feminism for alien abductions, rather than big oil, patriot act, NSA and mankind.

I hate when they have infected or bloody eyes in a show.

Duchnovy looks alright outside of the show, but for some reason Mulder just looks really.. old. Scully, despite looking unnatural, has aged better.

All this talk about aging, I thought back to the same episode (which was very good incidentally).

Agree with you kbell. The black oil episodes used to freak me out because of this.

They seem to have rehashed the Bryan Cranston episode as well, to some degree (re the high frequency sound).

Almost finished episode two. I guess lightening doesn't strike in the same place twice, or I'm just expecting too much too early.

Checking out the guest cast, the Lone Gunmen and Agent Reyes will make an appearance soon.
