Not to dissuade anyone from checking it out, as it was quite good, but I do have some criticisms.
It felt like they tried to cram two episodes into one, it was unrelenting. There was limited subtlety at play and too much (cool) shit seemed to be revealed.
I guess they are trying to get a large viewership, but strategies like this do the opposite in my opinion. Keep people guessing and you keep them coming back.
And yes, they have inevitably aged. I do feel that they are playing up to this with Mulder though, to impart a "beaten" vibe in regard to his fruitless obsession.
Personally, I think they should've brought some fresh new actors in. Not to play the parts of Mulder and Scully, but to be their protege's of sorts. Switch things up a bit and have the guy be the (logical) sceptic, and the hot young female agent be passionate and at times irrational about conspiracies.
Mulder can do a Hank Moody on occasion and insert some innuendo.
