Become an UberX driver

Bros, I thought of a very exciting idea one day and it works.

Uber (Google it if you don't know about it) started off as a way for regular people to rent out Lincoln town cars instead of taking a taxi.

Uber now has a thing called UberX. With UberX, you don't have to wait for a taxi. You use the app (on your phone) to call a driver who is just a regular guy.

Well I got to thinking. "My bros on the forum need some extra money and a lot of them don't drink and just run day game. I wonder if they could become UberX drivers. They could go out on weekend nights and make cash. Plus, a lot of girls use Uber. You could probably game some girls while getting paid."

I was going to do a post but forgot about it for about a week.

Then I called an UberX to take me to the airport. Who showed up? Some 24-year-old guy.

He worked as a low level Hollywood guy. He needed extra cash so he signed up with Uber. It's worked out great for him.

You basically set your own hours. You turn the app on when you're reading to pick up people. You turn it off when you don't want to work.

We talked all about UberX, how much money he makes, and what it takes to become a driver. He said that an UberX driver in Los Angeles can make up to $300 on a weekend night.

My cash situation is good. But if I had a 4 door instead of a 2 door, I'd probably do it myself.

How many of you are out drinking on the weekend when you could be making cash?

I have no idea how UberX works in your locale. In Los Angeles and San Francisco, it's a great way to get extra cash.

Do you homework and look into it!

(Oh, and if you're not already on Uber, you can get $20 off for your first ride by signing up with 3usuv as a coupon code. I actually get $20, too, but by now it should be obvious that I'm not some affiliate marketer and would have written that post even if I didn't have the stupid coupon code. Still, I always disclose stuff like that and think it's stupid not to take free affiliate money if some corporation is offering it.)

I may have to test this out in a mid sized Midwest city and report back. Is there any regulation on how nice your car has to be? The website says in excellent condition, but that is fairly variable.

Thanks.

Great breakdown Mike.

I use Uber CONSTANTLY, so they're definitely making money off me, plus I throw em cash tips depending on what I need and based on the level of service.

You guys who want extra $ + have a 4-door should check it out.

I've been picked up in everything from a new car to a serviceable older car.

If I didn't already have a car, I'd lease a 4 door 5 series BMW for $550 or so a month. (Or you could be more practical. Get a nice Honda Accord. Buy it. Then pay it down with your Uber cash.)

Run the car through a separate legal entity. Make the payment with my Uber cash. Make double payments (or stash away the extra cash and not touch it) because we might be in an Uber bubble that might burst. Pay that guy down quickly.

Write the car off because it's used for Uber cash.

So then I have a cool car that I use it to roll around on personal business that is also a tax write off.

That's how I try getting you guys to think. Think like hustlers.

Uber is awesome. I use it everytime I go out on the weekends, even during the daytime. Its so awesome to not have to search for parking at the beach, just get dropped off, go wherever you want, drink, and then get picked up.

I'd do it if I had a newer car, I think you have to have a newer model. I believe LYFT lets you drive whatever you want because I've been picked up in some semi-jalopys, the UberX have always been nicer. It seems pretty easy, go into the hot areas at the peak hours and there is "surge pricing" which is 2-4x the fare. These are the nightmare stories of $300 rides, but for you that's all profit.

It seems like you could use Uber to just get a new car. Do Uber occasionally, to be able to prove you are a business, but the rest of the time you are just driving it for yourself.

Sort of like people who take pictures and put them up for sale on istock etc. Their photos don't make much but they get to write off their gear and their trips. I doubt if any of them turn a profit (unless they are really good at photography), but it works.

Have you applied and actually been rejected or are you going to reject yourself first?

Think like a winner.

Make them say no to you.

That's game.

Correct. THere's a "hobby loss exception rule" that I don't want to get into.

But if a car payment is $350 and the guy is making $800 a month Uber'ing, then from a tax planning purpose he should be A-OK.

I personally would work my ass off and pay the car off as quickly as possible.

Or save the cash and pay it down.

I'd look into the tax laws to see what made the most sense.

Let's say your car cost 20K and you made 20K on Uber. You can't just write down the full amount of the car. You have to depreciate it over time (or write off miles).

But that's all stuff a true hustler can figure out for himself.

^No, but the semen stains that don't make it into the bitches mouths is an extra charge.

I actually looked into being a Uber drive in ATL.

Its legit.. Downtown..Thursday to Sunday..you can easily make 30 bucks and hour shuttling people 10-15 minutes back to their houses.
IF the driver was social and cool as shit..extra tip.

Standards are pretty relax. They claim to do a check on your car. But Ive talked to a couple drivers myself
But the company isnt run by any mechanic..Pretty much..if youre 23 and your car looks correct..youre in.

Incidentally, my friend has a friend who owns a 7 Series.

He uses it to Uber people. He doesn't drink so he's fine driving people around on weekend nights.

When he's not driving on Uber, he gets to roll in the 7 series.

And he makes a profit.

But I've posted enough.

I gotta imagine uber, plus networking (if you're cool) and probably some crazy stories you can tell would make this one fucking interesting experience.

You probably could met chicks if you only pick up from certain bars, areas of town, but be careful - from what I understand drivers get rated, I think passengers do also, I could be wrong. There are a few of these companies now and I may be confusing how Uber works with another one.

^ Yep, you could start a blog, maybe write a cool ebook on it, get some writing experience. Who knows?

Worst case is you earn extra cash while getting some stories.

I loved waiting tables most of all of my jobs. There was no salary. You went in and hustled and got paid.

If you were low on cash, you could always find someone who didn't want to work. Oftentimes people would pay me to pick up their shifts.

So I'd get $20 or whatever from the waiter and then I'd get tips.

I almost always worked Friday and Saturday nights in college, because that's what hustlers do.

Hustlers are out making money while the sheep are out spending it.

Great idea, but seems like it's only available in a few cities right now.

Great. If they aren't in my city I email them to get put on their list and express interest.

Then I'm the first one in my city to become a driver.

Turn today's no into tomorrow's yes.

That's a hustler's mindset.

Uber in Vancouver is illegal, though we had it for a very short time. If there is a way to skirt the legality of the bullshit dated law it might be tempting. I wonder what Uber would do in this case, as it sounds like Miami is in the same boat as Vancouver.

My contract at the moment pays me $.52 per km on my vehicle so I could double dip. Collect mileage and the fare. Not bad.

*Edit

Just had a thought.

One of my girls just bought a new Audi S4 and gets $.90 per km. She loves to booze on weekends I could arrange to be her driver for free and while she is in the bar use her car to make some cash.
