Watch torrent videos without downloading them

As you all know, torrents are the best way to watch movies and shows for free. The problem, however, is that you need to specify which files to download (if downloading season by season), wait for some time for the video to download, as well as have free space on your disk - using something like Netflix is just easier because you just find the movie or show and click play. However, there is a way to watch torrent videos without having to install any torrent client or spare disk space - install Magic Player and torrent videos will play right from your browser. You don't even need to set everything up - just install the program and you're good to go!

------------------------------------

  1. Download and install Ace Stream
  2. Download and install Magic Player, then restart your browser
  3. Find a torrent for your movie and either right-click the torrent file and select "Play torrent online", or press the "Play Online" button. If there's a magnet instead of a torrent, copy the magnet address by right-clicking it and selecting something like "Copy link address", go to http://magnet2torrent.me, paste it, and when it's converted, right-click it to play it normally like any other torrent.
  4. When a new window opens, you can see the listed videos, select which ones to play and download ones you wish to keep. When you're done, press the gray arrow in a circle to play the video, and then press the fullscreen button in the lower right corner.
  5. (Optional) To change various settings quickly, right-click the player when it has a video loaded, and it will show you the most important options - for example, in the image I've set the aspect ratio to 16:9 because my monitor has a 16:9 aspect ratio, and it stretched the 4:3 video so it fills the whole screen.
This way, you don't need to buy subscriptions to watch your favourite movies or shows, while keeping the simplicity of Netflix and YouTube - just find the torrent, right-click it, add it to the playlist, and you're done! No ads, no disk space required, just instant video playback - awesome when you find a show that would take days to download completely! It also plays music with visualizations, so you can check out if the music's any good before downloading it or just find a playlist for a party.

Correction: for magnet links, convert it using the method above, upload the torrent to Dropbox, open Dropbox in your browser, click the torrent file, right click on the Download button, and play it.

Any idea if this would circumvent being put on a list for downloading torrents, since you're not actually saving the file?

This just happened in Canada, so I'm curious if your method would bypass any concerns:

Their page says this:

8. Cached data protection. There is no such feature in other clients!

To provide maximum effective work of P2P, all played content is stored in a specialized folder with technical name (cache) and auto cleaning function. All cache data is encrypted and not available for playing, providing protection for users of client applications from any charges of storing played online content (more details). It also gives ability to use all BitTorrent provider potential, with full content protection from unauthorized use and distribution.

Note: Storing freely-distributed files in a convenient user location and in an opened form is available via the «Save» function located on the control panel of players with Ace Stream technology support.

So, just watching the video using the player should be safe since it encrypts and automatically deletes the videos it downloads, while downloading them using the program depends on the country's stance on torrent downloading.

Will playing files with this affect my ratio on torrent sites that require a login and track that sort of thing? Will other users be able to download files I have played like with a regular bittorrent client?

If you download them normally, yes. If you play them with the player, then maybe since in encrypts and deletes videos it downloads (it uses them only as cache). Send them a message and ask so you're sure.

Yes, Vuze and uTorrent can. However, Ace Media supports subtitles, buffers MUCH faster and doesn't need disk space - once the video is viewed it will be deleted once the cache is full. Also, watching them instead of downloading them is legal - see my last post. Would you like to watch videos using the uTorrent player or the one that's based off of VLC Player?

What's ace stream for

It's the main program - Ace Stream connects to peers and downloads videos for watching using Ace Player or Magic Player. Magic Player is just a browser add-on to view videos without opening the Ace Player to add them - Magic Player uses Ace stream to play your videos, and settings you change in Ace Player can affect Magic Player, like hide buttoms in fullscreen or aspect ratio. You can also use the included Ace Player - it also supports torrents, in addition to streaming any video you wanna share with someone, and as a bonus, it's based on VLC player so you get a fantastic free player with lots of configuration options.

Not that I know of - it works as well as advertised and doesn't bring any toolbars and anything else.

So apart from all of the above benefits and drawbacks of each particular player.

What's the best way to stream or torrent without the risk of incurring the wrath of government charges? Is there a way to have my cake and eat it too? Can I safely watch films online?

Read my post about legality - watching them using the player will not incur the wrath for you. Streaming them, however, depends - if you share a video with a few friends or share your own videos, then no, but there's also content protection (like YouTube) that you can use to share certain copyrighted material without breaking the law.

You can also use their Live Stream to easily share videos you own without having to upload it anywhere or create accounts - every user that watched the video will share it with other people for some time until their cache is deleted so you can be sure HD playback will be flawless, you just send the the ID that someone has to paste in the player, and it will play the video. As with normal torrents, the video users will share is always deleted after they're cache is full or some time has passed, and the video will be encrypted.

When you play them with the player I think it does affect your ratio but it can prevent you from seeding afterwards. If you're trying to maintain a ratio on a torrent site I would advise only using the player on public sites since it's easy to rack up a lot of downloaded data without seeding anything in return when you're just streaming. Anyway thanks for the great tool, I've been using this a lot the last few days and it's awesome.

Actually, it seeds 100% - there's an Ace Stream icon in the tray and by moving the mouse over it you can see the download and upload speed.
Also, try right clicking the icon - you can change various stream settings such as max number of connections; I've increased the numbers to over 300 and it downloads even faster now. For buffering, change the live buffer - mine's changed from 10s to 13s.
