Has anybody happily switched back to Android/Windows after owning Apple products?

My biggest mistake this year was buying an iPad pro.
While the hardware is great, iOS is a shit operating system.

Essential functions are disabled by default, such as:
- Send a pic (or any other file) on bluetooth
- Download music without itunes
- Install an unofficial app
- Find out file size or resolution of a pic
Meanwhile such functions are trivial on PC and Android.
Apple treats its customers like three years old kids. I'll resell this device.

Global Man you're experiencing a case of emotional investment and post-hoc rationalization about your computer choice that is exactly Apple's business strategy. The emotional invedtment and identification happens with any overly pricey purchase. Your mind cooks up a lot of reasons to justify your purchase as the superior choice, otherwise you'd look silly to yourself and others and it would be painful to admit an error.

Boy do I feel stupid. Thank you for your deeply informed analysis of my 25+ years of experience with various computer systems and concluding that my personal choice is only due to being duped like a fool. I hope I can Be Better going forward.

I will pass your conclusions on to the numerous and obviously foolish web developers, programmers and designers I know in both start-ups and Fortune 500 companies who use Mac computers exclusively - along with most of their organizations - and let them know that, no, they don't actually prefer Apple for any valid reason, and any preference is purely emotional. I will also tell them that, no, in fact they have not been able to right-click since 1997, it was all imagined.

I will be PM'ing to get some recommendations on a good Gateway or Huawei.

If there is no real point (e.g. work) to pick one over the other, ditch them all and move to Linux.

Apple is run by a fag. Apple gives money to fags and hags to make life hard for men like us.

Droid is the eye that sees all and sells your info to Big Corp (who then sells you shit via psych and ads) and Big Gov.

Bill Gates is the maker of a dead body full of virus and worms.

Linux? Free, and it works for 99% of what you need.

No games? Fuck you. Play chess or go to the gym.

First bought an iPhone in early 2014, the iPhone 5s. Still using the phone. Very happy with the experience, but now the battery is starting to suck. Also bought a 13" Macbook Pro in 2014. Also happy with it.

But I will be switching back to Windows/Linux and Android. I don't like their cult mentality and lack of customization. Google Pixel 2 will be announced today. After the reviews come out for that I will buy either a Galaxy S8 or a Google Pixel 2. I will use the Macbook until it obsolesces then switch to a Lenovo laptop dual booting Linux/Windows.

Case in point look at iPhone X. The baseline 64GB version is $999 (close $1100 with taxes) and you can't use a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. At 64GB for a new generation phone you know half of the space is going to taken up by iOS and your everyday apps. Not to mention that app developers are lazy and are not optimizing the size of their apps. So what's the alternative? Buy the 256GB version for $1150? That's over $1200 with taxes. microSD and flash storage is dirt cheap nowadays, even with the supposed NAND storage that new phones use.

I can buy a Galaxy S8 for $800 with -$200 rebate for trading in my old phone and slap a $40 256GB microSD card in it. Fuck Apple.

I had a mac for 4 years, but switched back to Windows at the beginning of this year. I'm considering whether or not to have a main Linux partition and a Windows partition for gaming.

Linux partition for day to day surfing is great. Lots of hassles for installing shit or troubleshooting hardware stuff (although much better with Ubuntu these days).

Thing I like about Linux is the inherent security and you are forced to learn more about computing. Which for some people is not worth the time but for someone like me who loves tech nerdy stuff and works in tech sector it's an advantage.

Used Mac since 2011, previously used windows. I will say that the build quality of a macbook is still higher than much of what is on the market. I used windows on my build for about 10 months and then switched over to Linux (Manjaro). I'm never going back to windows after this switch, Linux is just 10x more flexible and I've learned a ton about computers since switching.

I still use a Mac for my laptop however, but I was right on the fringe of switching back this year, deciding on a new 13' macbook pro based on build quality, the fact I've never had a previous issue with my 2011, and that it is unix based, so there's definitely some influence from Linux.

For phones, I'm moving out of the apple architecture. Most likely to whatever android flagship that I fall in love with, and the new blackberry, as I have never had a better phone than my bold back in the day.

I watched the Google announcement today.

Pixel 2 will not have a 3.5mm headphone jack or microSD support. Disappointed.

But the pricing is better than the iPhone X with Pixel 2 at $650 and Pixel 2 XL at $800. However just 64GB and 128GB versions (+$100).

It's a tossup between Samsung Galaxy S8 and Pixel 2. Thoughts guys?

I switched to a Macbook Air back when Windows 7 first came out, after the debacle that was Windows Vista. Frankly, it didn't have much to do with the OS, the hardware on the PC side was uniformly trash. Apple products also have a much higher resale value. It's like buying a Toyota instead of a Kia.

Today the hardware is much better on the Android/Windows side than it used to be. My phone comes from a Chinese manufacturer but has a great camera, good build quality with a metal back and a clear display. And the battery lasts almost two days. On the computer side I've been eyeing the Surface Pros but reports of bad screens keep me away.

There's no way I'd get a Macbook Pro 2017 -- they got rid of stuff I use on a daily basis (USB, HDMI and SD slot) for a shitty insipid #donglelife. No way in hell. Maybe when everything moves to USB-C/TB3.

I have been using linux variants regularly since probably 2007 and have had no serious driver issues, outside of graphics cards and external wireless adapters. Even then troubleshooting is easy since if you've had a problem, probably a few hundred others on the internet have had the same problem and at least a few have solved it already.

Linux for gaming has gotten magnitudes better in the last five years with the inception of SteamOS and the steam app being available on most linux variants, along with codeweavers crossover software. WINE used to be such garbage and while it's still not great, it has caught up somewhat.

If you're using Ubuntu don't bother with the Unity interface, get Ubuntu MATE and some kind of KDE or gnome desktop. Lubuntu is strange and buggy, and I never much cared for the interface of Mint.

To answer the prompt, macintosh computers are usually good quality and have resale value. I recommend them over anything running windows 10. I use windows (current and legacy), osx, and linux concurrently but generally prefer linux or unix variants.

If apple put the same effort they do into improving their products, as they do to restricting them, they'd be light years ahead.

Even back in the ipod days, I could simply drag and drop my songs onto a no-name mp3 player and they would play. But with an ipod that cost twice as much, you had to sync it and jump through all their bullshit hoops - no thanks. The same bullshit restrictions are baked in to ipads and iphones - why would anyone pay a premium for a product that, by design, does less than its competitors?

Fucking hate iTunes. It's like they're trying to shove their 2 inch long, 10 inch wide SJW cock into my mouth.

I still have my 2012 MBP and I was thinking of upgrading. Turns out the CPUs have barely advanced over the past five years (Moore's law plateauing apparently) and as you already pointed out, they got rid of all the ports I need and replaced them with their own proprietary ones (which they change every few years) whilst selling us dongles. Thank you but no thank you.

Steve Jobs vision died along with the man. Now Apple is selling overpriced crap they copy from Samsung.

I've used both extensively and much prefer Android platform phones over iOS, and as well much prefer Windows platform computers over OSX.

But this is 100% personal preference.

All platforms work just fine and millions of people use both every single day and they do their respective jobs just fine. My reasons for not using Apple products (if I can help it) really comes down to personal control of my device(s), user interface/workflow preference, and versatility.

That's the reason I bought so many of them for family members. Some people, especially older people, need a clean, easy experience in a tablet.

I have an aunt who never used a computer or smart phone and never touched the Android tablet her kids bought her. She started using the iPad from the first day playing games - now she's on all social media and constantly sends texts and emails to the family. She's old, it gives her something to do instead of wondering why the kids don't call.

It just seems like the iOS is easier for complete noobs to learn without feeling intimidated or being afraid they'll break it.

My whole family started off with an Iphone but are now ALL on Android. My parents aren't really good at devices and really hated the Iphone compare to Samsung Galaxy.

I found the whole Itunes setup thing to be VERY annoying and copying music/videos onto it does my head in! Why can't you just drag and drop in a folder like Andriod, so much fucking easier!!
