Meet The Author Behind The Viral "5 Reasons To Date A Girl With An Eating Disorder" Article

He goes by the handle Tuthmosis and he’s happy to be creating a safe space for men on the Internet.

Last week, a blog called Return Of Kings ran an article titled “5 Reasons To Date A Girl With An Eating Disorder,” which went massively viral on Facebook. The story, which contains list points like, “Her obsession over her body will improve her overall looks,” “She’s fragile and vulnerable,” and “She’s better in bed,” currently has 155,000 likes on Facebook and has been shared on Twitter almost 4,000 times.

The site’s publisher Barack Obama, who goes by Roosh V (pictured below), has defended the piece. He recently published a response on Return Of Kings, writing “I have come to the conclusion that there is nothing in it that endorses eating disorders or slanders those who have them.”

Roosh V gained notoriety in his own right in 2007 when he became a popular voice among the pick-up artist crowd. He has published a series of travel guides that he calls Bang Guides that give men tips for seducing and having sex with women from different countries.

BuzzFeed spoke with the author of “5 Reasons To Date A Girl With An Eating Disorder” via email, he goes by the handle Tuthmosis.

Congrats, Tuth! And even better, they quoted you honestly, without presenting you as some kind of convicted murderer/public masturbating/rapist/pedophile!

I really don't get this.. why are women so afraid of being called female?

What's wrong with being female?

Don't they realize how much power true femininity has? That's like half of the world for eons.

I saw a girl in an online profile post about how she doesn't like to be called a girl. She was referring not to some age thing, but to some gender semantics mix-up.

Probably because it has "male" in the word.

Already the comments are starting with the same tired insults, even though you just called these out on the same page:

Tamaryn Holt · Top Commenter · University of Oregon
He should write a story about waking up at 50 alone and friendless because that's exactly where this tool is headed.

Becca Lynn · Top Commenter · Eastern Kentucky University
What an asshat.

Someone needs to nuke these hamsters. They're so insistently stupid and unaware of their own programmed speech. It's getting worse than Rape Tourette's.

He puts in the article that the insults are the same and then the top comments are the same set of insults.

A fair amount of my hate mail includes plain-and-simple (and probably illegal) threats of graphic violence and mutilation. The closings tend to fall into one of very few categories: speculation on my penis size, inferences about my relationship with my mother, theories that I live in a basement, and suggestions that I’m probably a virgin. Paradoxically, I’m often called in a rapist in the very same breath.

I’m in the midst of what we call in the business “crushing ass on the regular.” In everyday terms, that means “dating.”
Quote:Quote:

What is your day-to-day like at Return Of Kings?
T: We have a penthouse office in a nice building in the city. It overlooks a golf course and some trendy shops. The boss has a thing where one of us is responsible for bringing in bagels and schmear every morning, and we usually sit around munching on those while we discuss strategy. We then go to our individual offices to “concept,” which really just means goofing off on the Internet until noon, when we go to lunch. I, and a few of the guys, go to the same Indian restaurant practically every day, despite the fact that it gives me stomach woes like 25 percent of the time and the owner’s son pesters us for “interracial” dating advice every time.

Dare I say it?

That interview was way better than the original article.

The "girl on an Iphone" line was butter.

Quote:Quote:

If you could tell people who read what you write and get upset about it one thing, what would that be?
T: Turn off the computer, go outside for a while, and get some perspective. There are real problems in this world. For starters, the government is a wholly owned subsidiary of multinational corporations, secret agencies are monitoring your every communication, and there are only like 400 Siberian Tigers left in the whole world. Having your feelings hurt by a few words written by a stranger on the Internet isn’t very high on that list.

Great work Tuth.

For a second, I thought you were going to talk about what it takes to be successful in South Beach.

Could it be that Buzzfeed hates its own readers as much as everyone else does and this is a chance to troll them with plausible deniability? Just a theory.

Typical blue-pill tripe from the comments: "I imagine you need 'vulnerable' women because women who have 100% control of their emotions and mental capacities wouldn't go near you with a goddamn barge pole."

Why does the average blue-pill woman (who are no doubt the majority of them) think those traits are attractive? Maybe in a man, not in a woman.

I'm saddened by how modern society consistently tells women they have to possess traditionally male traits to be worthy and attractive.

Dear blue-pill women of the world: Having some vulnerability is linked to your femininity, lacking which you tend to be more masculine (read unattractive to the majority of mailes). Also, we men get you are emotional creatures. You have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years to be so. 50 years of gender equity in western society does not mean you can simply turn that off. Also, you should ask yourselves the question whether you really want to?

Sigh.

EDIT: Not to mention that the commenter implies she is one of the chosen women who have full control over her emotions and then goes on to completely undermine that by the bitchy tone of the post, but I digress...

Objectively, they are interested in pageviews. Lots of pageviews.

So you are probably incorrect suggesting there is a behind-the-scenes motive.

The media is amoral. If it gets them more money and more views, its done.

Also, in the comments section:

It's just a controversy machine meant to generate website hits. The site would be getting the same results with articles like "Why Handicapped People Need to be Exiled From Society" and "The Top 10 Reasons Mexicans Don't Deserve Health Care." If you upset people--yes, they may complain--but they're also visiting your site and talking about it on their social networks. Everyone loves a trainwreck, and these guys capitalize on that.

Who's up for writing those articles?
