The comment about Iceland being ruined by British stag parties was news to me, I've never heard of Iceland being a stag destination. Everyone seems to go to Eastern Europe if they're going to go abroad these days.

Got to know how to hit the ground running. For each country this is very specific. Take Iceland for example. These people party like fucking animals until 6 or 7 AM, but only Thur-Sat, so you need to plan accordingly with other stuff to do during the week.
My observations from 2 visits:
1) The chicks arent quite as hot as I thought they would be, most are 6-7's with a few 9's sprinkled sparingly. The nightlife centers around a 7-8 block strip with a little action one block on each side. (Laugavegur Street)
2) Going out is a big deal and people wear their best cloths for the most part (think Karl the coke lover of Medellin nightlife style). Basically its a giant fashion show in the street with expensive alcohol raining from the sky. You will see some fights in the streets and in the clubs which I found very entertaining. Rem, they used to be Vikings.

3) Renting a car is a must IMO, but with expensive gas plan on paying about $150 a day for a shitbox economy car. Its worth it to be able to go see some sights and make last minute decision to visit the blue lagoon etc. especially if you can split the cost with your crew. Americans can drive without restriction, but be advised DUI's start at .05 and will have you crying home to mommy for 3K to pay fines to get you out of the country if you get locked up. I recommend Hertz.

Has the only 5 start restaurant in Iceland (The Vox) and a Bistro including the most bad ass display of food in the morning I have ever seen with about 25 different types of fresh baked bread and everything else under the sun (try the Skyir). Recommended you eat there even if you arent staying there. Opens at 4:30 AM, about perfect after unholy amounts of alcohol have been ingested. Get a room facing the ocean, the sunrise over Mt. Esja is out of this world.

Luckystar - to say the girls are just 6 or 7 is misleading. There is a large quantity of hot chicks there which I found pleasing to the eye. If the girls were that low, I doubt it you would see so many tourists flocking there.
I found the girls nice looking and eager to engage in a conversation. As I stated before they were very keen to see how long you are staying in the country.
I think alot of places are best avoided in the summer months, unless you are hitting a resort beach town.

From my experience June is plenty crazy, as I am sure fall/winter is also because they are both basically extremes. In summer the sun never really goes down (drops down for a sec around 11-2 but its still light out, and pops right back up), and winter has 4 hours of sun, so people will be acting crazy either way. Both times there were tons of Icelander's everywhere smashing glasses, fighting, drinking and singing, so maybe the economic crisis is keeping them from their summer vacations?

When you get in start by picking up a copy of the Reykjavik Grapevine available for free in most coffee shops for detailed listings.
Reykjavik Fashion Festival: Goes on for just under a week at the end of March/early April. If you like fashion models go to Iceland when this is on. They have fashion shows, that may be tough to get into. There are lots of parties, booze in boutiques, fashion crowd out in force for debauchery. There's also a small music festival that runs alongside the shows. They had Ghostface headlining this year I think. http://www.rff.is/
Independence day - 17th June, a national holiday. Big party, lots of people drinking in the streets.
Menningarnott (culture night): usually first Saturday after 18th August. Streets in the centre are packed all evening. Lots of families out earlier and then the freaks come out around midnight. Very rowdy but lots of fun and lots of girls out drinking in the streets and having a good time.
Iceland Airwaves: October 12-16, international music festival. Attracts big international acts and gives a platform for upcoming and established Icelandic bands. It's a one week party. Get a ticket before going. If you don't manage to get one there's a lot of parties and afterparties related to the festival. This is my first post, just discovered the site. I just got back from Iceland on a bachelor party and thought it was a lovely place. Don't want to repeat what's already been written but here's my opinion from my experience:

Brown skinned American, I'm south asian but don't look it, mostly mistaken for Italian or Latin. Have lived in Boston, Baltimore, DC, Upstate NY, NJ, CT, and currently in NYC (eastcoast to the bone). Used to do very well with women when I accepted anything with a pulse, now trying to focus on quality and just turned 30.
Icelandic women are amazing. I am a big fan of the blonde hair, blue eyed women, and I am quite tall so like the height as well. The ratio was pretty good in most places, I wouldn't say one place was better then another but probably the best places were B5 and Auzor. B5 was slightly better but I thought the girls were harder to talk to cause of the dancing.
Again the women in Iceland BLOW away anything on the eastcoast, including NYC (I hang out in meatpacking, Soho, w. village a lot and while it's good I don't think you have that many good looking women in such a small area). They have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen. And being a disgruntled New Yawker, these girls aren't money hungry bitches. They are extremely friendly but also extremely flaky. You can be talking to a 9 or 10 easily but unless you move quick, she'll probably move on. It can be quite frustrating. They are easy to pick up to, simply grab their hand and just talk about something, anything, and they will quickly banter back with you. I LOVED this cause it was so refreshing from NYC chicks who immediately ask "what do you do and where do you live"
The BIGGEST issue which I feel wasn't mentioned earlier was the Icelandic Guys. The guys have become HUGE cock blockers, at times aggressively so, if they see you with one of their blondes they will simply pull her away from you. The chick will do nothing to stop them and simply leave. I had NUMEROUS girls on the way back to the hotel that simply turned around a walked the other way when a local they knew grabbed them. Obviously a new and frustrating situation. They didn't seem to have a problem with the brunettes and was able to get an average brunette who was DTF fairly easily, within 1 hr, back to the hotel. As I said, sometimes the guys got aggressive and we almost got into a fight a few times. Even scarier, the locals seem to band together to protect their women. I guess the locals got fed up with tourists taking their women and decided to fight back. This wasn't my experience alone, everyone in the party AND 2 other dudes from NYC who just happened to be there too had the SAME experience. So if you go, you need to figure out a way to get them back without running into any of their friends (tough one). Also, if you have any alcohol in your room, it's an easy pick up "hey, we have free alcohol at our place, you want to grab a drink?" Some chicks will come RUNNING when they hear that. AWESOME experience
That being said, it was still fun to hang out and kick it to some supermodel chicks because it is SO difficult in NYC to have a fun flirty convo with some of the stuck up bitches in the city. For only 5 hours from JFK, I would recommend it to anyone for a weekend to blow off steam, just come prepared to deal with the cock blockers!!!

I went once several yrs ago during April I think. For about 10 days. It was probably too much as I did not travel as much. The city is VERY small. I am talking about Reikiavik. I do remember doing a glacier trip and the Blue Lagoon. I enjoyed both. Perhaps my expectations were too high or I went at the wrong time of the yr, but I did not find a ton of hot girls there. Pretty average in my opinion. I still enjoyed it and at least I can say I've been there, but I would not rush to go back. I ended up meeting girls out each night and had a good time, but I would not classify these as stellar girls. They were friendly. Actually, the most love I got was from a girl from Bergen, Norway who was visiting and another from Copenhagen! What I did NOT like is that these bars resemble drunk frat parties. It's not a lot of fun trying to talk to a girl who is so fucked up she can't even remember her name. It's just sloppy to me. It's completely unattractive. But to each his own. I like sophisticated girls and trying to bang them. Not some drunk, sloppy, trashed girl at 4am. One night I was trying to have a conversation with this one girl and I still remember another girl pushing past (yes, people love to push!) and vomiting right on my girl's leg from being so drunk. I was like...wtf...am I back at a fucking Sigma Chi party in UCLA. Have fun and good luck! Maybe the summer will be better.
Yes people in Iceland get sloppy drunk, but I found it pretty entertaining to see people in sports coats and nice dresses and high heels puking in the street Maybe its just me haha. Also, I rented a car and would always be within 5-6 blocks of anywhere that I was drinking. Although I can't officially recommend it (unless you know WTF u r doing), I found it exhilarating red lining a Toyota along the ocean at 6AM after a night out. If you do this though, remember that their DUI's start at .06 and make sure you have a couple of grand handy in case of any issues.

Re; Bars
We basically went to ALL the bars on Laugevegar from Vegamot down to Austur. Our hotel, Room with a View was next to Vegamot and it seemed most of the action was down the hill however did see some interesting places the other way. It really is a SMALL place, maybe 10 city blocks max and you also tend to run into the same people or recognize a lot of them, which is good or bad depending on your point of view. From mine, even though we recognized a lot, there were enough new chicks we didn't need to bother. In fact, one of your problems was we were meeting so many girls that we would forget the first group and move on to the next, like kids in a candy store or something. May have worked against us.

It's funny, we actually were contemplating our next trip and perhaps either hire a "bodyguard", only use bottle service, and/or have a cab waiting and try to get the girl in the cab ASAP. lol, even if the destination was 2 blocks away.

I've never been to California so perhaps that's why you don't think the girls were that great. I heard Cali has a lot of hotties. NYC is LOADED with women as well but they're such a pain in the ass, like reserved for the athletes, celebrities, and rich guys. Yeah you can hook up with some smoking hot girls in NYC but it really is more luck IMO or you game needs to be 11. I'm certainly not there, so Iceland was like a huge breath of fresh air, supermodel hot chicks and we're dragging them back to the hotel. GREAT for confidence and it's just SO MUCH MORE fun chatting with a hot chick then some avg NYC girl.
Now, your right, the girls can be pretty rowdy drunks and it could remind you of a frat party but there are some "upscale" places like B5, Austor, then were a little more sophisticated but I kinda like the rowdy hot chick, again, mostly because it's such a contrast to the NYC girls.

Yeah, dark skin helps, latino definitely. But really, everyone in our group did well. Might have a slight advantage over your pale white friends and it does feel nice to be appreciated for it.
I think it answers it all. The bottom line, and it may just be due to my own personal deficiencies, is the ability to hang with 9's and 10's, have FUN with them instead of trying to impress them, and party all night (day) with plenty to chose from. Much much harder to do anywhere on the Eastcoast IMO.
btw, a coworker who has been to both Iceland and Stockholm said Sweden had similarly hot girls but a little more sophisticated and had to do more work fyi. Think of hanging out with Vikings versus City Slickers.
