It was a mistake to spread the 5th season to 20 episodes. They were largely all dull, uninspiring, lot of plot lines went nowhere, no new exotic locations, just the same Kattegat, the dulll Wessex, the bleak Iceland story that had potential to be fresh and interesting but went nowhere.
Vikings just spent time fighting and betraying each other instead of discovering new lands and fighting for new glories. It's just a soap opera where everyone dresses in ugly grey robes and it always rains.
They would have better made 10 or even just 5 good quality episodes of Vikings discovering Mediterranean and working as team while kicking some Muslim ass instead. In the show they sort of attempted that but abandoned too quickly.
The Paris stories were pinnacle of the series. It went all uphill before that and it goes all downhill after that.

I thought the worst part was the utter waste of time that was the entire Floki story line. I was actually intrigued by it at the start but it just went absolutely nowhere and had no purpose.
I was very hyped when Floki discovered Iceland, and brought people there, acting like a prophet it was pretty cool. I thought he would be implied as the ancestor to all the Icelandic poets that left the Norse myths alive to our day. But that stroyline got exponentially more empty and miserable.
