What to drink, when you don't drink?

What to drink, when you don't drink?

I want to free myself from the alcohol culture in Denmark. It really ruins a lot for me. Sure, it is a very effective icebreaker, when chatting up girls, but only to a certain point. I see alcohol way more problematic than helpful, for numerous reasons:
  • My hangovers have intensified over the last couple of years.
  • I can't make mental notes about my game when I'm drunk.
  • My workouts suffers tremendously.
  • I get fat, poor, and spend way too much time on dead end conversations.
  • The list goes on and on...
I want to have an alcohol free lifestyle, so how do I best workaround the alcohol culture? What do you drink, carbonated water? Icetea? Juice? And how do you best deal with people (girls) when they ask why you don't drink? I was thinking in the lines of being aloof, implying that alcohol is some kind of a problem (mean drunk/ex-alcohol), and that they shouldn't ask more questions?

Cheers, or something

If somebody asked why i'm not drinking i guess i would say i'm taking antihistamine . Nobody can blame you for avoiding mixing those with alcohol

I would stick with the Roissy classics when they ask why you're not drinking:
"It's complicated"
"Because I don't want to get you pregnant"

Or more seriously, experiment with different explanations and see which gets you the best results.

When I'm not going to drink, I'll have a soda and lime in a rocks glass.

When I do drink, I avoid beer and just go with vodka/soda/lime. Gets me a nice buzz without any of the detriments you listed (for me).

Yeah, I was thinking about explaining it with some heavy drug use, but I don't wanna come of as a sick motherfucker, mentally or otherwise. But I guess you could joke about using crack cocaine, but I don't think that comes without the risk that she wants some. And Roosh told me not buy the girls drinks, I'm guessing it applies for drugs as well.

Move to California.

I am sure it will be outlawed there soon.

Coke or a shirley temple (literally)
They don't need to know the drink you're holding is non-alcoholic

I had to cut out drinking when I got really sick in Nov/Dec of last year. Doctor's orders for a faster recovery. I would usually just opt for water.

Anywho, people would ask me why I wasn't drinking and I would tell them I was saving money for my trip in January. Which was true. They didn't question the response and just nodded knowingly. Worked like a charm.

I never, rather rarely drink. Happens once every 10 nights out a girl asks me about not having a drink in my hand.

It doesn't really matter unless you make it matter, really.

Bitters and soda is my go to. Yes, it's alcoholic, but it's so unalcoholic that you won't know the difference. It has about 1/10th the alcohol of an actual drink.

It's tasty, looks like a 'drink' and I believe that it's very good for your stomach/digestion.

Do we have an alcohol culture? We have an alcohol problem, to the extent that they are afraid of us in Prague.

And yeah, I like to drink and it is a general part of the interaction between my friends, parents and siblings. I have always had a firm grasp on alcohol (starting young), but the negative effects starts to outweigh the social aspects. And since I want to reach my physical potential, taking my weight training too the next level, alcohol is no longer an option. My biggest concern is my family and friends, how do I avoid cutting them of?

I would not bring it up.

Go to the bar by yourself order:
coke, sprite or club soda with lime
cranberry juice
virgin bloody mary

no one will know the difference.

If pressed about not drinking

say its the doctors orders (blood test or something like that)
You are still hungover from night before.

A good friend of mine is a "recovering alcoholic" though she is still drinking behind everyone's back. But when she actually is sober, she'll drink club soda, water with gas, or an energy drink. When we take shots we'll get her a shot of Red Bull. I know, pretty lame, but we're trying to help her out and still feel like part of the party.

Being a smartass and deflecting the question by saying "Because I don't want to get you pregnant" might be a good idea, though there are some other options.

Are you familiar with Ramit Sethi? I could be mentioning him way to much, but he's basically a career/networking expert, so you might want to google him and opt-in to his mailing list. His free information is la crème de la crème.

In any case, he considers the question:

Quote:Quote:

"Girls I met at bars would keep asking me, 'Where's your drink?'"
I quit drinking years ago due to some pretty severe health conditions, and the girls I met at bars would pummel me with a relentless barrage of questions like: "Where's your drink?" "Want a drink?" "What are you drinking?" and 174 permutations thereof.

So one day, out of pure frustration, I decided to test some responses. I chose these 3:
Number 1: "I don't drink".
Number 2: "I'm not drinking".
Number 3: "I quit drinking".

With a bit of thinking of psychology, it should be obvious which of the two answers resulted in insulting responses from the girls and which response resulted in positive responses.

However, the bottom line is this: the advice here is a great springboard, but go out there and test your responses. If you get negative reception from a particular response, stop using it. For the ones that get positive reception, test among those and stick with the ones that have high success rates.

Oh, and club soda/carbonated water shows class as you could get away with saying its a vodka soda.

Co-signing the Bitters and Soda. I'm dialing back my alcohol intake because I believe even my moderate consumption is offsetting my work in the gym.

I'm looking to cut by half my alcohol consumption on nights out and this is the way to go for me.

Do you enjoy a nice drink though? If you do, why not just scale it way back? Two or three beers won't cause the problems that you described. Ten will though.

For me, I LOVE craft beer and wouldn't give it up even if I get a guaranteed six-pack and shredded body lol

Just ask for some iced tea in a glass.

Looks like a long island right.

My tolerance has fallen to the floor too. I don't get it, but eh makes for drinking affordable.

I like to take a corona or two and nurse it an entire night. Cheap and it reminds me of the beach.

If possible, go to a shisha bar. I've been doing that a lot lately and it gives you something to do when not drinking.

Probably not the easiest type of place to game, but it's a cool place to take a couple bznitches with your wing man.

The trick is learning how to cut the dependency on alcohol as a social drug. My problem is I drink too much, water, soda, whatever drink I have in front of me. So naturally, I get too drunk to game and of course its horrible for my health.

club soda + orange juice is awesome. Reminds me of tequila and orange juice. Plus neither is so bad.

Cant do the energy drink because I take caffeine when I work out and need to keep my caffeine tolerance low. Soda is just plain bad for you. I dont think people realize how bad soda is; Im pretty sure it causes cancer.

Just get a water and throw a lime in. Otherwise, you're still paying $3-$5 for a soda or whatever.
