I would bait them for a free drink, then go for the close. Anyone traveling should pack 2 cartons. It's a smoking players staple.
I think the amount of tobacco you can travel with varies by destination county. You're only allowed to take one carton of cigarettes to Canada, for instance.
Have you guys ever been stopped at customs to have your bags checked for smokes? In theory, maybe split it between bags, with some extra packs in your carry on. Then pack a few in your jacket.

Flew out today instead of last Thursday... went through FLL and PHX security with a filled Zippo in my carryon - no issues. Lighting a square with it at SNA right now.

I'm sitting here dying for a camel filter. I used to smoke marlboro 27's but they don't taste as good as the camels.

I should've bought a carton the other day instead of two or three packs and going out in this snow insanity.
Speaking of which, do you guys usually buy one pack, a few packs, or a carton?
I like buying cartons, but I only do so if I'm going across the river to Kentucky. Cigarette and liquor taxes are cheaper in Kentucky, a $50.00 carton in Ohio costs $10.00 less for a ten mile drive. Liquor in Kentucky is usually a dollar or two cheaper than Ohio also.
There's actually a few Wal-Mart sized liquor stores in northern Kentucky specifically catering to Ohioans looking for cheaper smokes and booze.

I only smoke maybe a pack a month, but always Dunhills. Girls think theyre cool because the box looks so weird, and theyre really good.

No cigs for me, but I do smoke cigars. My favorite are Backwoods Sweet & Aromatic, for a great combination of organic flavor and price. Another great thing about the Backwoods is the smell. Most cigars you would never want to smoke in a pubic place because they tend to smell too strong. I always, without fail, get a compliment when smoking backwoods and have never heard a complaint, even indoors.
The honey-flavored and the mixed berry are also fantastic.
The problem is that they tend to fall apart and get messy - just the way they're rolled. This can make them a nuisance and sometimes it gets on your lips (if Backwoods ever comes out with wood-tipped cigars I'm a customer for life).
So sometimes when going out I pick up some basic flavored swishers - usually wood-tipped. I sometimes get compliments on the smell of the wine-flavored ones as well as the rum. They're nothing to write home about but they'll do in a pinch.
Sometimes people, usually women, give me shit because I tend to sit in a bar holding a cigar in my mouth. Maybe they think I'm being pretentious but it's just a habit and you get a lot of the flavor holding it in your mouth. Mostly I think it's just a shit test anyways, so if I'm in the mood I play with them on it. If not, I just look at them like they're stupid.
Every once in a while I'll pick up something expensive to smoke at home with a couple of the boys, but it's been a while.

I do the same thing. I use old water or tea bottles in my car for that too.

So I've recently picked up smoking (about 6 weeks ago when some really shitty stuff happened) and have been smoking about 4-7 a day. I have to say I really enjoy it now. The momentary escape, slight buzz, and relaxing effect are addictive, not to mention the chemical addictive-ness itself. I'm smoking Camel Turkish Silvers...haven't had anything that tastes better yet.
Thing is...I'd like to quit before it REALLY becomes a habit. Two months ago I smoked maybe 2-4 a month after drinking.

I smoke something different everyday for the most part. I buy Marlboro 27s and Parliment Full Flavor the most when I'm buying tailor mades. My favorites though are Bugler (rollies). It's cheaper ($11/week in NJ), I smoke less, and it stops people from asking you for a smoke. Anyone is free to one of my smokes if you roll your own. Like Iron Mike, I'm not rolling your cigarette unless we are fornicating.
Random Dude: Hey man can I get a smoke?
Me: Sure, you gotta roll your own.
RD: Awww man! Can't you just roll it for me?
Me: I'm sorry, do we fuck?
If it's a girl just change "do we fuck" to "have we fucked".

When I was in Germany, I either smoked Monticos (don't know much about them, other than that they're cheap), imported Russian cigarettes from a friend who got me a carton, or I rolled my own.
Here, I'm just smoking Marlboros or shittier brands of cigarettes until I find a decent tobacco store with rolling supplies.

Switched to electronic cigarettes in 2013. Now every time I try an analog I feel a bit sick.
