Just had another thought.

Some years ago, the federal government threatened to remove highway funding to any state that did not pass a DUI law specifying intoxicated driving to be .08 BAC or higher. Every state obliged.

I wonder if the federal government is planning on using such leverage regarding yesterday's decisions in Colorado and Washington.

That's usually how they influence state behavior.

But it is always ironic since most of them (presidents at least, hell probably all politicians) are admitted drug users at some point in their life. You think they would be understanding, but they are apart of the elite now so why should they care.

Four legs good, two legs better.

As a medical marijuana patient in California, I can say that I'm proud of Colorado and Washington. A big reason why California didn't legalize it is because of the massive amount of money being made in dispensaries. Good indoor wholesales at $2,500 to $3,200 a pound, and if it were completely legalized the price would probably drop to $1,600 or less for top shelf.

Ha, I dig. Why ruin a money maker, right? [Image: lol.gif]

I was listening to Joe Rogan's podcast the other day and he was talking about how medical marijuana in California, for many "patients", is just a cover for recreational use.

He went on to explain that doctors which approve patients for medical marijuana are having "rate wars" to get people to come to them. $35.00 and a complaint about a hangnail, and you're in.

haha A hangnail is pushing it but I get what you're saying. Most people are recommended mmj for insomnia which any fucker can just say they have. I pay $40 to have mine renewed, plus another $20 for my shitty little laminated card so I don't have to carry my recommendation around.

If you are a regular smoker the amount of thc that will stay in your body could easily get you popped for driving under the infleunce of drugs now in Washington State even days after you have smoked. I guess that thc stays in your fat cells so it stays in your body so much longer than any other drug.

This actually sounds like a loss for pot smokers. All my pot smoking friends were against the legalization of marijuana becuase of this.

I think they are going to have a tough time deiciding what is going to be the legal amount you can drive with since it sounds like the measuring system will not be as straight forward as drinking measurements.

I guess this will make Colorado the Hamsterdam of the US for a while (until the federal gov brings down the hammer).

It will be tough for Obama nationally either way. He can support marijuana legalization, effectively encouraging more distributed power in the states, but at the same time he relies on a strong national narrative and state sovereignty would seriously f that up.

Obama doesn't have to worry about winning another term. Hopefully he does some gutsy things that he would of had to prance around at in the first term.

Exxxactly. His first term was his white term, now he will have his black term this time around. I definitely hope he'll go for more audacious programs and ideas like this, a number of pundits were thinking he would as well if he ended up getting a second term.

Either way, there is going to definitely be a legal showdown between the states and the Federal Government and I can't wait!!!

I'm worried those "gutsy" things will have more to do with a VAT and cap-and-trade than they do with restoring personal liberties.

If there is a showdown between the states and the federal government, it's going to be a defining moment. Either the states will solidify their right to take care of their own business, or the states are going to tap out because of overwhelming federal force.

Same here. I think the only thing to prevent Obama from getting a little too nutty (gun control, etc.) is the fact that the House of Representatives is still Republican controlled. (232-R, 191-D)

I don't think there exists a test to determine accurately how high one is, if they are high etc. I know if you get pulled over WHILE smoking your likely to get a dui. I just don't see how a blood test could place a standard on your level of intoxication.

Oh and the federal government will always be more powerful, which is in direct contrast to the constitution. The power of the purse is a dirty bitch.

At midnight last night all the pot smokers gathered around the space needled and counted down to exactly midnight and started legally smoking pot on the streets of seattle

Beta males benefit from drug laws. An atmosphere of anything goes - like gay marriage and legal pot - inevitably enables women to act upon their instincts towards hypergamy.

On Tuesday, May 28, Colorado Governor Hickenlooper signed two bills that were previously passed in the House and Senate that set up the legalization of marijuana in the Colorado. By doing so, he established Colorado as the world’s first legal marijuana market for adults that are both taxed and regulated.

I can see the possibility of a Supreme Court ruling within the next decade that completely legalizes pot under the simple argument: "Cannabis prohibition is unconstitutional." You cannot have alcohol and cigarettes so standardized and "accepted" legally, economically and socially and cannabis as the evil "drug" of criminals who deserve to have their freedom taken away for possession, cultivation and distribution. Americans are granted by the constitution a society of equality where one is free to choose their own poison. We are also granted rights to the pursuit of our own personal happiness and if a spliff of Jamaican Lamb's Bread or Durban Poison or Swazi Gold or Pure Haze or OG Kush makes you happier than having a glass of Argentinian Malbec or a Napa Valley Pinoit Noir then you as an American citizen should be free to make that choice. Drugs and alcohol existed when our forefathers wrote the constitution and if I am not mistaken they did not advocate the regulation of these commodities by the federal government. If we were to truly believe in free and open markets marijuana producers would be able to set up shop right next door to every retail store in the country that sells alcohol and tobacco products and "compete" for the public's business. Supply and demand, let the markets speak and self-regulate, and the markets have spoken... Americans want pot. Pot is our second largest economic import (I think?). Petroleum is number one. Automobiles are number three. We import 40% of our pot from Mexico (thus funding the cartels), 40% we grow in the US (Cali #1 outdoor/Florida #1 indoor), we get another 10% from Canada, and another 10% from various other countries (Thailand/Africa?). So, we have a problem Houston, the writing is on the wall, its done, over, brace yourself for legalization and prepare your future business investments accordingly. This could happen fast.

Funny thing is, it was easier for me to get weed in Florida than it is for me here in Denver, but that also has to do with me knowing more people in Miami. You can't buy it in the stores yet unless you have a card. From what I understand they are trying to make it legal to buy without a card by November.

The other night I smoked for the first time in over two months. We went outside in my friends car and I was all sketched out. She kept telling me not to worry and no one cared. It was strange for me because you have to be careful about that kind of stuff where I'm from, but here it's no big deal.
