Nice info guys, I didn't spend nearly enough time in San Jose. I flew in to the airport and went elsewhere. I have a return trip in the making where I'll make use of the info on here.

As far as sex tourist making it harder for travel to costa rica to pick up regular girls I would have to disagree. There are two circles those who work the trade and those who don't. There are areas of San Jose where a regular girl might not want to be seen with a foreign man. Like Barrio Amon where the whore houses are and the Del Rey. In fact regular girls will CROSS the street in front of the Del Rey just so, people won't confuse them with the hookers. If a Guy decides to stay at theses hotels: Presidente, Balmoral, Morazon, Europa, Del Rey, Sportsmans Lodge or Hotel Little Havana his chances are nil of getting a regular girl back with him. Stay at the Marriot, Trype Corobici or an apartment if you want to bring back normal girls. Most girls aren't looking to leave CR to live they have a good life there. But, they are looking for an easier life if that is possible. Money talks in CR. The reality is treat her as bitch like Luigi in Roosh's current 5 part story.

I respect your opinion. I think an apartment would be preferable in San Jose as it would be in other cities/countries. Staying at the Del Ray would really be the kiss of death. The last time I was in Costa Rica, I went to San Jose at the last minute and found a hotel after I got there. Luckily, the hotel bar at the Europa did not have any prostitutes or sex tourists there. The Hotel itself had its share of sex tourists. I was able to bring a girl from Escazu to the hotel, but I wouldn't doubt that that result was atypical. The girls really did not want anyone seeing them arrive or leave the hotel, which jives with what you are saying. I will note, however, that there is heavy foot traffic on the street in which the Europa is located and business types walk by the place constantly. Many business types also eat lunch in the hotel restaurant which is located next to the hotel bar.

One thing I do like about Costa Rica is the diversity of women, since you can meet women from several different countries there. In addition, CR is close to several other countries if you want to travel around.

I've met some pretty well-educated women in CR. I never got the vibe like women are desperate to find a gringo to get out of their country or looking for a Western Union novio like you have in some other countries. Every chica you meet in CR also doesn't have kids, like some other countries. They may not be super easy like in some other countries, if you are looking for easy.

Good points. I never thought about the fact that every girl in Costa Rica does not have kids, but it appears to be the case. This is in direct contrast to countries like the Dominican Republic, where outside of the elite classes, it is at least somewhat rare to find a girl over twenty who does not have kids. The women in Costa Rica also have better education than the women of many other Latin American countries. Many people state that the reason for this is that Costa Rica does not have an army and the government therefore has more money to invest in education.

Yes, that is a big problem in Colombia. Too many young single mothers and increasing chubbines, which puts a premium on the young skinny hotties who dont have kids. If Costa Rica is not suffering from an increase in chubiness(which CR experts would know). Then that combined with the lack of single mothers, makes it a very attractive country, for a player who knows spanish.

Chubbiness is an increasing problem worldwide. You also cannot really go by the statatistics regarding obesity by country. I saw some ridiculous statistic which gave Argentina one of the highest obesity rates in the world. Those of us who have spent a significant amount of time there know that isn't the case. In Costa Rica, I am only familiar with San Jose and Jaco. In Colombia, I am only familiar with Medellin and Cali. I did not see a big difference in chubbiness between the two Costa Rican cities I visited and the two Colombian cities I visited. Despite what the statistics say, I really don't know if there is a difference in obesity between the two. Different regions of Colombia may have different levals of obesity as well. The United States has West Virginia, but it also has Colorado. Costa Rica is a very small country so the chubbiness of the women in San Jose and Jaco may very well be representative of the entire country.

In Bucaramanga, Colombia it is becoming a problem. Last time I was in Medellin a year and a half ago it was a bit of a problem, but paisas are such egotistical creatures and so concerned about their looks and competition, that that might be what keeps the epedemic in check over there. The same in Cali. But there are definitely regions in Colombia, that you have to start avoiding ,due to the chubby epedemic.

That makes sense. I realize we are getting way off topic here. Many women in Medellin go to the gym regularly. The Body Works gyms in Medellin and even the one in the Ciudad Jardin area of Cali can be goldmines if you get there early enough in the day. Competition is often minimal or nonexistant. The Body Works in the Las Vegas area of Medellin is better than the one in El Poblado in my experience. I actually have a client who owns an upscale condo within a short walking distance of the Body Works in Las Vegas. I have a general policy of not dealing with clients on any collateral matters, but I think it would be a DHV to rent that place. I will try to post my remaining comments on Colombia on the various Colombia threads in order to not piss people off.

The first thing I do when I arrive in a new country is purchase a local cell phone. Unless things have recently changed, unlike many other countries, you must be a citizen or resident of Costa Rica to purchase a cell phone there.

How long ago was this? I was in SJ like 3 months ago and I was able to buy a SIM card with a copy of my passport.

It was over a year ago. Other posters have informed me that the residency quirement was changed within the past year and that cell phones and sim cards can n now be obtained very easily in Costa Rica. The problem has apparently been solved.

Was just in Costa Rica for around 9 days on a work trip exploring the beautiful country. Was even there for the recent 7.6 earthquake which was quite an experience. Anyway I only had one night in the end in San Jose on the Saturday and went out to the huge club called club vertigo. Fellas if you've only got one night in San Jose make sure you go here. Don't be put off by the line of only guys that are waiting to get in (most of the girls just walk straight in without waiting) as there are loads of cute and friendly ticas inside. Most of the guys are chumps anyhow who stand around the dance floor doing nothing. There are 2 rooms being deep house and dubstep/drum and bass, entry was 6k colones but worth it.

There was also a place right next to it on paseo colon which looked pretty good, sort of like a pre place before the club so could be worth hitting that up first.

I just spent a week in Costa Rica. I split my time between San Jose and the Caribbean coast. I would recommend San Jose for girls, even though Costa Rica is a popular tourist destination. I got the flag on my first night.

Girls:

There's some nice talent here. The typical girl from Costa Rica is thin, light-skinned (word to Choche), with a pretty face and long black hair. There's also some diversity with girls whose look is more Indian, European, or African. You don't have the bodies with the surreal tits and ass like you can see in the DR, but the faces are a lot nicer in Costa Rica.

Ticas don't get wet at the sight of passing gringos like in Manaus, but they speak conversational English and are still open to meeting foreign men, even though there is also a dedicated presence of genuine whoremongers who are there for the hookers. These guys are mostly older and won't stray three blocks from the Del Rey Hotel. The younger tourist brigades skip over San Jose for a more "authentic" experience in the jungle.

Ticas are open to getting fucked on the first night. While I did see some large mixed groups out at night, there are still girls out in groups of 2 or 3.

For these reasons, I think San Jose is a good destination for the novice traveler.

Bars:

San Pedro/ Calle de la Amargura: I really liked this area. There are about five bars along one street with people hanging around in the streets. It's filled with a crowd of students, because a bunch of Universities are located nearby, and the bars don't cost much. The party starts early here, at around 10, and ends early too (with places closing down at around 1:30). Most of the people are standing around, but there are some groups of girls sitting down. These seated groups are still open to being approached though.

La California: This area is alright. There are about fours located within a block of each other. The area has a rock vibe, and I tend to do well in these kind of places. The girls won't be the best in San Jose, but they will not be difficult either. When I went here on a Thursday, the bars never got really packed. However the places don't close until 3.

Vertigo: This was supposed to be the club in the city, but it was a complete sausage fest. At least a 3:1 male to female ratio, even with a 10,000 colones ($20) cover charge. That said, there was impressive talent here. When I went it was electronic music night, but they play a variety of music here.

El Pueblo: This is a complex of around 15 bars and clubs. I went here right after a Christmas festival, and all the bars and clubs were completely empty. I think this could be a good place, but on that night no one was there.

I don't day game, but there's a mall near San Pedro where I saw some real stunners.

While I would recommend San Jose as a pleasant city with cute girls, I can't say the same about the Caribbean coast.

This has been my experience as well. More than in any other country I have visited. Where did you stay? Did they give you any problem bringing girls in there? Were the girls at all turned off by where you were staying or embarrassed about being seen entering or leaving the place where you were staying?

Bacchus, I have never been to Costa Rica, but that ticas are open to one night stands.....makes it a country worth considering.

From the few ticas I have met traveling (don´t have a CR flag) they seem pretty similar to colombianas ( in looks and racial diversity) and what you said about the coastal girls there, can be said about colombian coastal girls as well.

So a question: In what order would you rate the quality of the girls in Manaus, Cali, Medellin and San Jose?

I've been to San Jose and Medellin and I find the looks of the women to be very similar. There is a good sized community of Colombians, Nicas and Dominicans in San Jose. As was already stated, a much higher percentage of ticas speak english, I'm fluent in spanish though so this wasnt an issue. I'm a brotha and I felt that daygame was much more productive in San Jose when compared to Medellin. I was even opened up by local girls in the bars near the university that thought I was a local.

@Choche,
There is plenty of diversity in San Jose comparable to Colombia, you have round ass bilingual coastal girls that look dominican there as well as girls that are as white as the paisas of medellin.

I haven't been to Manaus, but I would rate average quality of women in San Jose comparable to Medellin and slightly above Cali, less surgery than both places as well.

Azulsombra, I could be wrong but this is the first time I have read a post where someone rates ticas (in San Jose) at the same level as paisas and better than caleñas. I wonder why that has been the case?
Colombia has always had way more posts and interest than the CR on the forum.

Most Costa Rican girls I have met traveling IMO have been at a similar quality level than Colombianas, so I believe you. Time to add another Latin country to my future travel list.

Not sure why but unless your hitting on the silicone enhanced model 9s and 10s in colombia, the average is very similar. Colombia has always had lots of interest here due to Mixx the colombian guru posting so much about it. Also less than a decade ago gringos almost never went there due to the perceived danger, so when it opened up so to speak in the uribe era there was a surge in interest. Unlike costa rica that has had steady gringo traffic since the 80s.

Yes azulsombra, it is probably due to most forum members thinking the boat has sailed with regards to Costa Rica and that there is still more value as a foreigner, in Colombia overall.
Im not sure how much truth there is to that now. Would have to go to San Jose to find out.

Anything good for 4-5 guys to do on a Wednesday in the Central Valley in January? We will be staying in Escazu for the night before we hit Jaco for a 4 day, 15 guy bachelor party Thursday-Monday.

FWIW I met some Hooters girls down there last year that Ive stayed in contact with, so we will likely be taking a few of them out. Any recommendations for spots? Or just let them take the reigns?

Thanks

On that side of town two of my favorite bars are Chubb's escazu and cowtown in Santa Ana cow town is not really a bar to meet girls at just hang with friends. Rapsodia in sabana should be open Wednesday. Bar besos will be along with macs a sports bar both in sabana. There are a lot of options in San Jose. I'll be there thru march. Chubb's has a sister bar downtown that is always packed.

Is there more nightlife in general on Tuesdays or Wednesdays in that area? Or is it about the same? Can you recommend a strip club in case the night goes in that direction. I know about the Del Rey. Thanks

Most of the strip clubs are downtown. Pantera Rosa is good. Just don't by the girls drinks. Hotel M in San Pedro is probably best. Sport Mans lodge is a del rey alternative. Places like el pueblo will be dead but calle amargura will be happening. That is at the entrance to university of Costa Rica.

I was there earlier this year. Spent two nights. Here is what I learned:

Talent: Overall it was pretty good. A lot of girls spoke English well and you can game with minimal Spanish. With good Spanish, I think you could absolutely crush it. I left wishing I had stayed longer instead of just doing a layover.

Mindset: Costa Rica gets a lot of foreigners, but most of them seemed to be either retirees, hippies, expat brats, students, or sex tourists. If you are decent looking dude who has his shit together, has some game, dresses well, and speaks some Spanish you will stand out in a good way and be well-received.

Accommodations: I tried two hotels. The first was Crown Plaza, it was a dump and the location was so-so.
If you don't have an apartment, I highly recommend Hotel Tryp. It is vastly underrated and it was a bargain. I had a baller business suite on short notice for like $100. It's also extremely well located for both day and night game.

Day Game: There is a nice area over by the main soccer stadium on Boulevard Ernesto Rohmoser. There you will find a coffee shop, upscale supermarket, and Mcdonalds. I saw talent at all three spots and spat some game at two of them. Another day game strategy that got some traction was queuing up at a bus station, pretending to be lost, and asking the cutest girl there for directions in broken spanish.

Night Game: The best spot I went to was Rhapsodia, on a Saturday night. It was a nice club, that attracted a mostly high quality crowd. Some of the locals were well dressed and it would not be excessive to suit up, though not necessary either. I made out with two girls there, one was an expat from Europe and one was a local. However I also got blown out there several times, it was not easy street.

The local approached me, she said she saw me earlier at bar across the corner where I was pregaming. I tried to get her back to my hotel, and came very close, but could not extricate her from her friends. This is where better Spanish might have helped.

Also in that area was Casa Blanca. A good spot, I posted up at the bar and ran some game there.

There is also a huge club in that area, across the street from Rhapsodia. The crowd was more of a drug/rave type scene. If you are down with that scene, it could probably be a lot of fun.

There is a Mexican restaurant next to Rhapsodia which turned into a salsa club. But I would not recommend going in there unless you can actually dance salsa or are fluent in Spanish.

If you want a laid-back, dressed-down casual night, Calle de Amargura is great for barhopping. It's mostly a college crowd. Hipster styles and lots of weed being smoked. Here you can run standard American style bar game and just get hammered and be an approach machine. Drinks are cheap as shit.

Pueblo was ghetto but sort of fascinating. I've never seen anything like it. It's like this weird maze of stone buildings that are closed off, and they all have bars and clubs in them. However the crowd was borderline thuggish. I'd go there once just to see it if you are staying longer than a week. I got the vibe that it gets used as an after-party spot. I got taken there by some girls I met on Amargura.

Lastly, based on what I saw I do not recommend Escazu for anything except the steakhouse. I don't remember the name of it but it's the famous one. One of the best steaks I ever had. Afterwards I went by some bars and they were almost empty and the customers were really old. This was on a Friday night. I saw two young Ticans and they recommended Amargura.

Safety: Some people say that Pueblo and Amargura, and the streets of San Jose in general are dangerous. It's probably not ideal to be walking around by yourself well-dressed in some areas. Cost Ricans kept telling me how dangerous it was, there is probably some truth to it so know where you're going, take taxis, and minimize walking around at night.
