The problem is these junk foods and soft drinks have enormous caloric density with relatively small portions, so people can sit there and gorge on thousands of calories worth of junk food without really feeling full.
The tragic part about this is what an enormous negative impact even a moderate amount of body fat makes on women's attractiveness. An extra 20-30 lbs. is all it takes to turn the average girl from a 6 to a 3 or 4, which is a huge spread that means the average girl goes from, "Cute enough to date if we get along well," to "Drunken last resort bootycall." Obesity's effect of lowering the average attractiveness of women has the corollary of making the average (now unattractive) woman more miserable and bitchy, and making the women who are still attractive more entitled and bitchy.
