Nice thread. I agree that style is paramount, but a lot of the examples above come off as a little too dressy for my overall vibe. A lot of guys--myself included--look a little too "Jehovah's Witness" in a tie, vest, and jacket. I dress up like this, but not for my day-to-day.

I tend to layer, but I go more casual with it. As someone pointed out, fit is everything. I wear fashion sneakers, stylish socks, tailored fashion denim, v-necks, and nice sweaters. When it's cold, I throw a heavy, stylish coat over a knit sweater/t-shirt combination. Everything fits right. I accessorize, but not to the point of looking douchey.

What kind of denim do you go for? I normally wear 7 For All Mankind or Buffalo, but have been reading more about raw denim like A.P.C. being much better. Not to mention, Buffalo jeans don't last for shit. Any experience with selvedge raw denim jeans?

7 For All Mankind is a little played out. A lot of the club-going hoi polloi wear it, so I avoid it--since it's pretty recognizable from a distance. I have an old pair that fits me beautifully--and doesn't look quite so mainstream--so I keep it in the rotation. I'm not loyal to one brand, though. I typically go for softer (not crispy) denim, especially boot-cut. I've actually not bought a new pair in a while because of the skinny-jean epidemic. I also do nice corduroy when I can find it.

In my experience, being better dressed def helps. But, better dressed means dressing appropriately/strategically for the venue. So, while I think a lot these suits look fucking awesome, they might look out of place or try-hard in a rock n roll bar.

Sometimes the best thing is just a subtle indicator of high value or something to signify that you come from an exclusive scene. An example would be dressing like a rich person who is trying to hide the fact that he is wealthy, but you messed up and left some clue that you are very high value.

Anyway, I believe that, across the board, anything that looks like it was custom made to fit you is going to boost value. It will also feel better to wear, which is an innergame boost.

I'd be curious to see what shaved-head/bald white guys (like me) do to deal with the summer. I wear a hat in the winter and I think it greatly affects my game.

Actually, I'd be curious to hear about how everyone deals with wardrobe in the summer in general. Specifically, shirts.

Agreed, a rock-n-roll bar is not a place for suit/jacket. However, that does not mean you can not out-dress your competition to give you an edge. Look at the style that David Beckham wears casually. I'd definitely sport a causal GQ look like that in a dive bar or rock bar and have girls droolin' to meet me.

Mixx - A nice casual jacket/ blazer that one can just drop on top of pair of jeans?

Maybe some of the guys here should post their pics (even if without faces).. on how they layer and style themselves.

The point of modern propaganda isn't only to misinform or push an agenda. It is to exhaust your critical thinking, to annihilate truth.

I havent gotten to 100% suit yet...but I have made some big strides in sports coat game...I have gotten three in past few months and got them fitted to my athletic physique...

One of them is a corduroy dark brown jacket and with the right fit you can take that baby even to dives but also to hot lounges...its the only one I wear with my black jeans...and have gotten great feedback from the ladies on it...the fabric is good for them to feel up and touch on...

Kind of like this but with black jeans...

I agree with Mixx 100%.

Or you could just not go to "rock and roll bars". Problem solved.

Better yet, are there even such thing as "rock and roll bars" any more?

Like great music and tons of tons of drugs? I have my doubts that they exist anymore.

Everytime I hear a new band they suck.

There hasn't been real rock and roll since this cat:

Well A lot of these suit or way too flashy in my opinion and a waste of cash . I never seen anybody dress like that in a club . And over dress like someone else just said you will look like more of an alien . I don't think it's that kind of distinctive effect you want to give . They are kind of suit that you cannot dress often with . Maybe it's because i'm not rich. I am more aware for a more casual and some class but not to much clothes a la becham .

Like I have posted before, only men complain about "overdressing" usually it's because it's financial constraints/budgets or just plain laziness.

I've never heard of any women refer to any man, anywhere as "overdressed" when dressed GQ, but then again, I don't go to dive bars/pubs or rock and roll bars. I go to cool-lounge joints, and when I walk on the beach picking up women I still dress GQ, not in a suit of course, but definitely stylish.

You don't have to dress some cargo to be casual/class clothes . The majority of theses suits are way too flashy for a club . The thing is maybe women don't tell you how you overdress but she will tell to his friends and I often see that . All theses pics are mostly stars . They have the prestence to dress like that but not us . You can have a sharp style and be different but you don't want to project the image of a zombie . You look at the guy with the brown suit . First I really dislike this suit but that just my opinion . But just check the crowd behind , you can see that He don't fit with them .

This seems as good a place as any to make a first post... this statement could not be more true, it's time to be a man and stop worrying about what other guys think of you... if you're getting the girls they want, they're going to hate you no matter what.

I don't always wear a suit but as a protest to what slobs we Americans have become, I've instituted "Formal Friday" in my life. On Fridays I always where a suit.

Until you've done this you have no idea how much easier it makes things... I very seldom have to open woman because they open me... and I've put myself in a very different class than most of the guys she knows that spend most of their free time smoking pot and playing video games.

Totally agreed on Lapo Elkann and Beckham. Lapo often gets close to clown territory but can pull it off because he's the Fiat heir- hell he wears his Grandfather's suits (Gianni Agnelli, First Ballot International Playboy Hall of Fame Member). Check out Lapo's pocket squares- completely blown out. I've adopted it at times- if you can pull it off with tha swagger, its outsized, irrational, and gets you noticed in a good way.

The thing about Beckham is that he exists as a brand, so all his looks have been completely field tested by Simon Fuller and his management crew to appeal to large amounts of people, everywhere. Risk is reduced. I was skeptical about 3 piece suits until I saw Beckham. Reduce the formality and its a tight look.

In the Chicago winter, I'm busting out Boss/Canali/Oxxford suits with navy blue/grey v neck sweaters, then switching to black ankle boots w/pocket square after work. Originality works.

It's pretty funny. On the internet, there is mad hate on Custom Suits.

But in real life? Not so much.

I can't tell you the amount of times I have walked into (the right) spot, and cats come up to me, saying "Great suit", "you are the man", "what do you do for a living?" etc etc etc

You can walk into a spot cold, and control the center pieces of the chess board right away.

This is what the pua movement never grasps; I am talking real Game with a capital "G", not manufactured game with a small "g".

Bouncers almost always give "props" and ask where you got your gear; makes it easier to get into clubs.

Bottom line, I don't wear Custom Suits because they make my life harder. I do it because it makes it easier.

Sure there is some "hate" in real life, but that usually signals that you are in the wrong spot.

I have yet to be in a spot with insanely fly girls with dresses and high heels, good ratios and hate on Suits.

That should tell you something.

This is a good work look, ideal for swooping on your lunch break.

These are the kinds of shirts you want - 1) Italian, 2) Spread Collar 3) Finamore if you can afford it - the spread collar allows you to get really interesting with the ties.

This is how you tie a tie, this is what you want it to look like when you're done

This dude is killing it.

You don't want to wear a suit? you want to wear khakis? You don't have to look like a dork.

You wanted some layering?

Hey this is a photo of a woman, but do you see something in it that you can use? that you can get your tailor to do?

How about these 2? Do you see what i'm getting at?

Oh you want to use my style?

I can do this all day.

The easiest thing you can do in 2012 is wear a sports coat.

Buy one at a thrift store, get it taken in, put some elbow patches on it, and throw in a pocket square (silk puff or a white one with the presidential fold). Put on some 100 dollar jeans, and some nice shoes that you didn't buy @ a big mall store, a bit of cologne, and you're gonna out style most of the dudes @ any venue.

But eventually, you're going to understand that style is really about knowing your body's dimensions, knowing your body's movement, knowing how to layer, knowing how to add accessories, knowing when your big pieces have enough detail that you don't need to go overboard.

The other thing you guys should also consider is FASHION, which is separate and apart from style. Style is how you dress, it's your take on clothing.

Fashion is what the cool popular people are wearing.

IMO, a man should be stylish and a woman should be fashionable, but often times to catch a fashionable woman, you gotta cater to the mass and wear something hip, something designer, something expensive. So at least once a season you gotta spend too much money on something that's not going to last. Just keep that in mind.

And the biggest thing, your diet and work outs are crucial. Good clothes make bad bodies passible, but they make great bodies killer.

Women have been approaching me and the eye-raping i get everywhere from babes is ridiculous.
