Tattoos Around the World

Are there any travelers around here that have a good number of visible tattoos? How have reactions been from girls around the world? It's not a big deal in America but I'm curious to see how it is in another country. I'm talking about sleeves, chest pieces, back, etc.

I was out the other night drinking in Montego Bay, Jamaica with a chick from Texas who I met at a hostel. She has a HUGE tattoo on her back (lots of colours, cool funky designs, tribal, etc going from her shoulders to her arse, and she wore a back baring shirt to show it off. WOW, I can't remember how many people came up to her to tell her how much they like it over the night, especially other girls!

I'm sure if you were a fit guy with a large mural on your back walking around shirtless in Ja you would get LOTS of attention too!

I only know about Latin America. Visible tattos are universally looked down upon.

Latin America is very class conscious - far more so than the US. The only people who have visible tattoos are prostitutes and gangsters/mafiosos.

So, people will have that opinion of you - that you are a low class lowlife.
And so will the authorities and police - since rule of law is weak in Latin America, you don't want taken for a low life.

Women of decent class (anything above lowlife class) and education will look down upon you.

Cover up all tats if you want Respect.

Brazil is the only country that is as tattoo crazy as America.

One thing I like about Eastern European girls is that they don't have tattoos.

Tattoos in Japan mean gangsters as well. Some spas will not let people with tattoos in, which if you have been to Japan, sucks. Spas there are the shit.

To the younger generation they are not nearly as stigmatized.

I noticed this too. Society is far more open about tattoos in Brazil. Many people have visible tattoos that american society tells us is a no-no. People with public jobs such as cashiers and waiters all had visible tattoos. I saw lots of sleeves in Brazil and there is nothing sexier to me than a brazilian beauty with a sexy arm sleeve.

I have a sleeve and can only speak for Japan. It is kind of a drag there. Went to some spas that where cool after you get over being exposed to weiners everywhere looking like Mufasa. If you have a tattoo and an employee sees you, you will be asked to leave. Also I wanted to be able to go to a gym to lift weights there so I had a Japanese friend call around to a bunch of them but I wouldn't be allowed. I dont see why I wouldn't be able to hide it but my friend was vague and insisted it wouldn't be good if someone saw, which I don't understand if I'm giving an honest effort to keep it hidden and I'm definitely far from looking like a gangster!

Most girls will bring it up when they spot it. It just becomes a conversational piece like a cool accessory. You will get sick of discussing it after a while. Except with black people in Louisiana because they comment on it with so much personality and enthusiasm! Or maybe its just me and my mood at the time, I'm sure I could convey the story in a much more compelling way like after 6 hours of needle work to the arm I spent the night at a dominatrix love hotel where the ex-girlfriend chained me to the wall and poured redbull down my throat screaming for me to perform but me and my dick where so tired, tattoos are exhausting.
