Juíz de Fora (Minas, I heard it has a good student life)
Barbacena (my favourite city in the South of Minas)
Obrigado pela lista!
Roosh also lists these second tiers cities for Brazil:
Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Vitoria.
They sound good but for a longer stay I think.
For about 2 weeks holidays, I am interested in knowing what would be the best spot to go (outside of carnivals or special holidays) where you have a lot of middle class Brazilian tourists.
I was in Arraial d'Ajuda / Porto Seguro many years ago and the parties were quite good (I met some nice Elite models from São Paulo :-) but I didn't like Porto Seguro so much (not very safe and hard to go around without a car and such. Arraial d'Ajuda was too small for me)
I wonder if I can find better than Porto Seguro for a blond gringo like me, quite fluent in Portuguese. I have been to places like Fortaleza and Recife and I liked the girls (they liked me too...) but I found them in general way too defiant of gringos because of the sex tourism industry.
I heard about vacation towns full of Brazilian tourists on the coast close to São Paulo and maybe close to São Luis or Belem, I don't remember.
Do you have any info on that?
De nada, cara!
We have a bro from São Paulo here (MR.GM), he might know it better...
Nevertheless, as far as I know when the people from São Paulo capital want to go to the beach and not travel that far they go to Guarujá, close to Santos. You'd probably see plenty of middle class Paulistas there. I like the city of Santos also, to me it feels like a condensed Rio, but the beach there is not that great, not that pretty. São Vicente, a neighbouring city, is also nice.
Up the northeast the few spots I could mention, as I rarely travel over there, are Itacaré (South of Bahia), a hidden gem of a town, beautiful, great vibe, parties and crazy hippie people traveling there. It is quite small, but vibrant on holidays. I spent a memorable new year's there.
Another spot I heard good things from is Porto de Galinhas, in Ipojuca, Pernambuco. I don't know much, but it seems to attract some middle class tourists.
Parabéns pelo português!
EDIT: I should also mention Búzios, in Rio, but I can't reccomend it, unless you roll that way $$. It is the place where all the upper class bitchy patricinhas go spend their money on the weekends. Although it is a pretty place with nice beaches, it completely lost the small beach town charm it had years ago, and now it is just an expensive beach town for the upper class Cariocas. The clubs here are even more expensive than the ones in Rio (like Pachá with 100 Reais cover charge). Again, that might be the option for some, and you can go there and spend less, but upper class patricinhas from Rio are a type I find somewhat hard to deal with, although they are hot. (I actually might try going for that niche when I return home, to test my game skills).
Other more acessible places that middle class Cariocas go on holidays is Angra dos Reis and the island of Ilha Grande, both are quite nice and get many Brazilian travelers, but I am not sure if there is a lot of partying going.
Other beach towns in Rio: Cabo Frio, Saquarema (surfers like it), Mangaratiba, Arraial do Cabo... places Cariocas go on weekends and holidays.
