Alternative / non-mainstream bands or music acts you like

I'm loving this thread!
Here's a few picks that I hope you guys enjoy:

Morphine
It's a trio with no guitar: just bass (tuned down, played with 2 strings and a guitar slide), drums and baritone/tenor saxophone (sometimes Dana Colley plays 2 at once!). At first the absence of a guitar may seem odd. First time I heard it, I got kind of confused. Now it's one of my favorite bands.
>>>Listen to: Have a lucky day, Cure for pain, You look like rain, I'm free now... just choose one!

Animal Liberation Orchestra
Chill, fun music, played by some talented musicians.
>>>Listen to: Fly, Maria, Roses & clover

Eels
Original and multi-sounding indie rock.
>>> Listen to: Bus stop boxer, Beginner's luck, Fresh feeling, Mr. E's beautiful blues

Let me know if you liked these and I'll try to post some more!

Hate the video but I like the cover.

These are crazy japanese guys' attempt at playing the Brazilian genre of "Pagode", a sort of cheesy downtempo samba, with usually either "romantic" or "libidinal" lyrics.

And these guys are singing in ""Portuguese".

They rule! [Image: lol.gif]

@ Walnuts and The Chef: cool stuff.

There is plenty of what I've heard here that have become regular music that I listen on my day to day life.

On of my favourite bands from Montreal (hard to get used to the vocals, but here it goes):

A Silver Mount Zion

Here's a band from Japan, the Land of Weird Shit. Sigh - "The Transfiguration Fear."

Their newest album has almost every instrument you can think of. This song sounds a combination of Mega Man riffs, circus music and black metal vocals. Crazy album cover too - some old pregnant queen handing out/collecting dead babies.

Good reccomendations guys:

This next band is a stoner/doom metal band. They sound like they're from the 70s or something but came out in the 2000s Think black sabbath etc.

Witchcraft has a way of recording that makes it sound "old" somehow...

They remind me of Colour Haze:

He's from Harlem and is talking about candy, coming down and has a styrofoam cup in the video? [Image: dodgy.gif]
They don't know about this

This band is great to relax to, they only have one album but it's dope. Perfect for chilling on a nice and sunny day. Ignore how fucking effeminate and ultra indie the music video is. It might just make you puke.

Yeah my friend showed me once and I didn't believe them it was from the 2000s instead of the 70s.

that colour haze sounds cool.

I had the pleasure of watching Isis live in Birmingham, UK back in 2006. I was exactly in front of the singer. He was cool, I talked to him a bit after the gig.

I'll be checking those others! I really like the genre.

The High & Mighty...2 Jewish dudes from Philadelphia. Classic shit right here that nobody really knows about and this is coming from someone who hates 95% of East Coast rap. Eastern Conference records had some good shit back in the day
