Hey mechanico,

As far as getting $$$ goes, are you able to use ATM's without issues in DR? Are they safe, readily available, and dispense enough cash to get you through a day? Some ATM's have daily limits to withdraw cash, or sometimes, they force you to withdraw 2x charging you for each withdraw.

Mixx
The ATM at popular bank had a limit of 10,000 pesos per withdraw that's about 260 dollars with about a two dollar charge. I never had to take out more. Most of the big banks have some army dude with a machine gun standing outside.

10k pesos is more than enough to get through a day and any hotel etc you would want to stay in will take your card. If you are gambling or just need more the Casinos can take the card for pesos/dollars as well.

Thanks for the live feedback from the ground. One more question: how was the internet connection there? I'm considering coming spending 1-3 months as I want to be in a tropical area with fun, sexy and easy girls while being on the same timezone as the majority of my clients in North America and the DR look ideal. But high speed and reliable internet is crucial for me. So how fast/reliable is the internet connection down there? And what would be the best city in the DR that you'd recommend for such a stint?

Gracias!

Good stuff ElMechanico! So on a scale of 1/10, how would you rate the average girl in terms of looks where you were in the DR?
So you ventured into the local part of town, which is awesome as that's what I'm interested in. How was safety? Did you feel threatened or any intense moments while there?

Looking forward to more reports from the DR from you and others before I finally make it there.
The girls looks all all over the place. I saw and met girls there with green or blue eyes with facial features that look Swedish with dark skin. You never know but the point is there's sooooo many and they are all outside doing stuff. The only problem would be Spanish skills. Hot factor and Friendliness is not a problem at all. If you go to the bad areas bring a local with you. It's best to have a purpose other than hunting tail. I showed some guys how to fix A/c amplifiers for toyota corollas for a friend. The people down there where so cool after the kids were running around with my Iphone taking pictures and showing them to the store owners. Nobody will touch you or can if they have respect. The women will kill them !lol

I may not be the right person to ask about feeling threat but one night at about 4am I was hanging with some street people drinking beer and one dude made that head tilt and walked closer me after I made him look stupid with some bullshit he was trying to pull and I extended my arm into his chest he stopped. These dudes can't be on the streets without some cash on them in some parts the police will ask for papers and if they have money. If they're broke they throw them in the back of an old truck. Ive seen them sit in the bar and when they leave to hustle pass the same 500 pesos off so whoever left had it on them

Let me add that Santiago (to me) had the finest Dominican chicks pound-4-pound. You can goto some of the clubs and most chicks are NON-pros. They are not easy to game but then again, not that hard either. The chicks (to me) were so fine that I didn't mind putting in a little more effort.

I used the 'ole "I come to the DR for golf trips often" line (which is somewhat true because I do take my golf clubs on most trips) and that helps. Also, I would "double back" to DR like two months later and it makes my "word" mean a little more to the chicks. I like Santo Domingo also but Santiago was just the right size because it still had a "town" feel but is a city.

What I've deduced from this thread so far is:

95% of male touristas go to the DR for p4p. This leaves a plethora of beautiful, normal, sexy, fun, women as an untapped resource. Am I reading this right? What's the catch? There's always a catch.

This sounds like a potential spot for a mini-retirement. What say you VP?

Good Info. I'm definitely looking to chase that kind of tail while i'm down there.
I am officially booked to the DR. Will arrive in Puerto Plata the 27th.
Will probably stay in Cabarete first for first week as I want to try kite surfing and I hear they party on the beach there for new years. probably santiago afterwards..
Good golf line. I play golf also but i won't be taking my clubs. I'd rather spend my money on kite surfing gear/lessons. Hopefully the kite surfing line will work good too! [Image: cool.gif]

AliB,
You just read my mind dude. I was exactly thinking of that. It has all the criterias I'm looking for, plus it's literally next door to where I'm so no need to go through the hassle of 24+ hours flying to get to Asia, a short 3 hour flight and voila. And on top of that, it's relatively cheap so I gather that for under 2k/month, one can have a pretty good lifestyle there. Would you Elmechanico and anyone who's been to the DR agree with that?

I eat good there Pusscrook. A filet with tostones was around 650 pesos and a couple beers add up to 20 bucks or so.

I'm going to give huge props to the food and service there. No tude about anything and I'm a picky bitch. I hate onions more than anything on the planet. I even had some Angel hair with meatsauce at 4 am the place brought it to me in 5 minutes for 250 pesos and it rocked. I gave up on mixed drinks but they were a few dollars. Two presidentes are about 100 pesos or less depends on where you go.

If you tip 100 pesos the waiters are very very happy. I would give them 200 because they rock. A pizza from pizzarelli is about 500 pesos delivered with tip so 13 dollars.

You can stay at a very nice place for 30 dollars a night no problem. I did stay at the jarrauga casino for a night with their money at about $200. The place with the best logistics was 60 a night. I was breaking the managers balls nonstop. He has 3 blackberrys on him. His new one is in a silk bag and is just to show other people. I told and showed him on Craigslist you can get one for 40$ used. His head couldn't handle it.

Cabs are 100 pesos or so around town and you could get an english speaking driver for 100$ a day or less with full 24 hour access.
The airport has seperate cabs unless you call one and charge about 40 dollars to take you anyplace in the city you are staying. They have different rates by trip so if you are in SD and want to go to Boca Chica they will say 500 pesos or so.

Pussy hunting cost are pretty much a couple rides some food and beer. You don't have to do anything different than your regular routine to find fine women.

I didn't do any p4p but it's cheap..
[attachment=3710]
Way over priced but ass was involved and it was there money. The hotel itself kinda sucks and the bar is full of Americans. Stupid bitches with tatoos complaining eating burgers etc.

The pipeline helped but I only went out with one girl from it but didn't chase the others down because there was no need. I told them that if they can't meet me I'm not going to drive out and chase them pretty much. This one bitch lived right across the river and wouldn't come over she wanted me to pick her up. Err..no. If she was here I would probably drive a half an hour to try and hit that.

I don't think that I made many mistakes and got a good feel for the place.
I figured out that it's a goldmine to make cash I may go back in a couple weeks to talk to some buyers to lock down a price stucture of things that I want to send and try to lease a 40ft shipping container.
I could probably do this on the phone but, as sad as it is my daughters mother won't help me when I'm taking trips so I have to have a reason to be there for my mother to help me out.

VP..People who live there make 2000 pesos a month some of them. 2k is no problem. It would be for me but I'm all about the hustle and making cash and spend the shit out of it.

When you ready for a wife let me know. I will take you to my secret spots. You have never seen anything like this in terms of beauty, simple-minded, and love sex as much as a man does. Way off the cosmopolitan parts. I almost set up an agency, but I got too close to all the families and couldn't do it because I value my name. You , i like, and maybe one day, I shall show you the hidden gems. They have no idea what they are worth.

Exactly. The DR is far more geographically agreeable than SE Asia. I've shied away from the Phils due to the possibility of getting there and having to turn right back around due to biz. And honestly, I'd marked the Carribean as a whole an over-touristed, over-priced place one would have a hard time getting laid. As of now the DR for me replaces SE Asia for any future retirements, at least when trying to save some dosh.

I think I got it now. The 3rd world "grit", and language barrier keeps the vanilla Euro/U.S. touristas from digging any deeper than the resorts or whore houses within eye sight of the balcony.

I haven't been to the north coast yet but if any of areas up there that people frequent are anything at all like Boca Chica it's not even worth staying at even for one night. But other than that Ali you got it.

One more tip...The player phone there is going to be a blackberry bold. It's common street knowledge there not to steal them and get a local number.

Also I got a chuckle out of this so thought to share...Whenever you are at the ATM with a local and before you complete the transaction the screen will say There's a 200 peso charge or whatever press yes to accept.. When they see it they say press no like you still are going to get the cash after?

But, why choose DR as a mini retirement destination instead of Brazil for example, a country with undoubtedly more prospects and economic potential?

Who said Brazil has more prospects and economic potential? The DR is way smaller and very easy to get connected..fast.

I haven't been to Brazil but will tell you the DR has more than anyone of us will ever be able take full advantage of and it's close. For me one direct flight in a couple hours from Orlando.

Yeah, the big advantage that DR has over Brazil is that once you take off from Miami, you know that 1 hour 40 minutes later, you are landing...and no Visa is required.

It's 100x better to be a big fish in a small pond than a big fish in an ocean, and Brazil is an entire Ocean compared to little pond DR.

Ok..mini retirement guys.....An apartment in this building in a nice area in SD is 420us a month and it's new with room service security blah blah. I'm looking at this one and if my plan goes right I'll get it just for convenience

Me and Ali talked about this before I even went and from what I learned this is the way to go. There's way cheaper options.

I felt a sense of freedom there that you just don't feel here in the states. I will trade an element of slight danger for freedom any day. Between that and being able to hook up with almost any girl you want makes this a winner in my book.

The last girl that I was with there I met online and I didn't even care if she showed up or not. She was 5 times nicer and hotter than any girl that I've pulled online in the states in way over 10 years from pof.

Ali and Vc...This pad above is 3 bedrooms and it's around four bills a month with security and room service.

A good plan is for one person to live in each location and have a small time share type fee for multiple people in the network that are proven and could pop in at different times with the advantage of the social circle. Lets 40 people or so have auto debited x amount of dollars a month to get distributed to each of these bases not only would it make life easy for the member maintaining them but would make it easier on us as well.

It could work but who would manage the whole thing? One problem in the DR is face control in hotels and resorts.

I am surprised that it is only 420 dollars a month, i was paying for a room almost that price (although it had internet, free cable and laundry service and it was in zona colonial)..what part of SD is that in? Is it near zona colonial?

I was thinking of doing the same thing here, I currently have 2 apartments in 2 cities in the DR, I have some friends with apartments in phillipines and colombia and brazil thinking of putting together a network of places since most of the apartments are 2-3 bedrooms anyway.
