Any good recommendations for new years? I'm trying to avoid the bigger cities like Lima and BA. I'm trying to decide if I should stay in Peru for new years and hit up some northern beach towns or a cuzco type place, or try and get to argentina and maybe hit something like Cordoba or Salta... any suggestions? Where are the good parties going to be ?

First, what do you look like physically?
Mixx
I'd highly recommend Valparaiso, Chile: about 2 million people pack into the city, there's a great fireworks show in the port, and the party is still going past 10am Jan 1.
I can't have sex with your personality, and I can't put my penis in your college degree, and I can't shove my fist in your childhood dreams, so why are you sharing all this information with me?
Caucasian, brown hair/eyes, athletic. I blended in well in medellin.
I've heard a lot of good things about valparaiso just in terms of being a liveable city. I'll keep this in mind for next year.
This year I'm starting in Lima and ending probably in Cordoba so somewhere in between will be new years. I have lots of time so I want to aim my schedule at a decent new years destination. For example in peru, I would imagine that the beach towns north and south of lima would be pretty good. But I don't really know.

Based on the sole description above, if you have long hair, go to Argentina. If you have short hair - then head to Peru. It sounds silly, I know, but that is the look that Argie men sport, and local girls "feel".
Be warned that Peru is notorious for gringo groupies, but you have to look like their version of what a gringo is: Blond hair, 6' (1.85+) Tall, green/blue eyes.
Argentina is great as summertime is coming in January, so be prepared to go to places like mar de plata for fun. However, they could care less that you are blonde here, it's all about having long hair (blonde or black) and a social circle with very direct game.
Argie girls wil be a lot tougher to bang than Peru girls - imo.

Interesting, I hadn't thought of the hair length angle. I have long hair now but i was planning to cut it before i go. You've made me reconsider lol!

Great post Mixx. I agree that sporting long hair goes in-line with argentinas culture of me chupa un huevo todo. Can you please elaborate on the social circle and direct game which is best suited for argentina? Been studying in Capital Federal for two years and am eager to see more laid back parts of Argentina starting in January, perhaps Villa Gesell.
I spent 2 weeks in Buenos Aires over Xmas and NY last year and I wasn't impressed with the festive period on the whole in BA. Didn't enjoy most of my nights out except one, Pacha on NYE. It was the one of the best nights out I've had in years, spent all of it in the outdoor terrace, on some ridicolously good cocaine, raving away under the stars to some classic trance surrounded by beautiful girls. Didn't leave until 10am sadly with some English girl rather than the Argentinian girl I'd been with most of the night (don't know what happened to her it's all a blur). Good night regardless.
on new years eve and christmas eve in argentina, things don't really get going until 3 or 4 am. there is a great street party (carnival) in buenos aires at the corner of costa rica and arevalo in palermo hollywood. its held there every year and lasts until noon with music and dancing in the street. great times
I wish I'd known about that sounds cool I could have went there after Pacha. Ended up awake for the next 48hrs anyway.
If you're going for New Years Eve, I'd recommend Peru. I lived there for an extended period and had a blast... The beaches south of Lima are crazy, and full of gorgeous women. When I was there back in 2005, there were limited gringos, but I don't know if thats still the case.
I agree with MiXX. Having blonde hair/blue eyes helps, but its not required. Most girls just want to meet a white foreigner.
If you are looking to stay away from big cities, then consider Mancora. There is also an interesting movie of the same name that might give you a good idea of what its like there.

Argentina will have great parties, but you most likely won't get laid. In Peru, you can have sex if you want to. I wouldnt venture outside Lima though if you're looking to party.
Gringoed,
Usually Lima is the only place for partying in Peru...however during Peru's summer months (approximately November-March),some of the best partying is to be had outside of Lima.
I used to be married to a rich Peruvian girl. She owned a beach condo and during the summer months, we'd head for it every weekend. It would always take a long time because on Friday afternoons, EVERYONE headed for the southern beach. They would even open both sides of the highway for traffic heading towards the beach, and it still took forever to get out of Lima..
And the beach parties...they were insane..full of hot women, with barely any foreigners that I noticed. Of course it may have changed some since 2005, but it seems that Lima's southern beaches are still somewhat off the beaten path, so I would definitely recommend them.

Can you give me some specific beaches south of lima that would be good to spend a week at. I would like to stay from xmas through new years. Will it be insanely difficult to find a place to stay? How would you compare the north beaches like mancora to the south for the holiday?
I'm not allowed to post links yet, but google "beaches south of lima", and you should be able to pull up a decent map of the beach areas. I would recommend that you try to make reservations soon, as it will definitely be hopping between xmas and NYE. I've heard "Playa Asia" is a popular partying destination, but all the beach towns are fairly close together so you should be able to move around.. A rental car might be helpful.
My advice would be to contact some chicks from Lima on couchsurfing.org and find out where they will be partying at. Chances are 95% of them are headed to one of the beaches....I can't find much on the internet which suggests its still kind of off the beaten path from regular tourists..
As for Mancora, I've never been, but I've heard its also a good time....I also seriously recommend you watch the movie "Mancora". Its not a bad flick and it gives you a really good idea of what Mancora and the Peruvian beaches are like
Also, if you do go, make sure you post your experiences. I'd love to hear some updates on these beaches...

Im curious to know how tough things would be if you dont speak Spanish?
I wouldn't say you're necessarily fucked. You could still get laid as most of Peru's upper class has attended private British or American schools. Some even speak without an accent...
On the other hand thats a very small percentage of the population, and in my experience, English isn't as widely spoken as other countries...so you might have mixed results with day or bar game
I'd target english speaking chicks online first and set up dates with them...In Lima, its amazingly easy. The site that I used back in 2005 was Hot Or Not, and I had no trouble finding chicks willing to meet up. I don't know if that site is still good for Peru, but I think any popular dating site would do..
As a side note, looking back on this period, I can't believe how easy it was to set up dates with Peruvian chicks. When I came back to the States, I practically had to beg chicks from online to meet up...and the ones that did were quite disappointing..

Shit, now you got me thinking Peru, here is another tip. When in Lima, check out Calle de Barranco. Its a bar district frequented by the locals (as opposed to Miraflores)...I remember one evening where I stumbled out of a bar shit faced drunk and spotted a 6 foot tall blonde Peruvian chick using a pay phone... I stumbled over to her slurred "Hola, Como estas", To be honest ,I was expecting the usual gross face and her telling me to piss of (As is the custom when chicks deal with drunks). Instead I got a huge smile, and an invitation to join her with her friends at another bar. I ended up taking her home that night, ...and we are still good friends to this day.
A word of caution. Be wary of the Peperas (sp?) These are chicks who put drugs in your drink and then rob you...it never happened to me, but thinking back on my behavior those days, it could have..

I spent a the odd day at some beaches South of Lima (no idea of the names) earlier in the year and they were packed full of young people having fun, never stayed around in the evening though so can't comment on parties. Mancora however I spent 4 days there and loved it, gorgeous place, great during the day and plenty of fun to be had at night. I was there over a holiday weekend so it was packed and there was loads on, got my Peruvian flag too, what it would be like normally I'm not so sure but think at the weekend it'll always be decent.
