However, do consider this: You are placing a bet on the table when you do that. The bet is that 1.) he won't find out about it and 2) if he does find out about it he won't make a serious move to hurt or kill you. Dead is forever. Statistically, there are a certain number of men that go to jail for killing men that sleep with their wives. You might get away with it for your entire life, or you may not get away with it with your first cheating wife, but if your number comes up, in that you picked the wrong guys wife, then it comes up. Most people won't feel sorry for you if you do eat a bullet for banging some guys wife. They will say that you got what you deserved. And wile that probably isn't entirely true, its not entirely false either. Your talking about something that can easily drive another man insane.

Doing it is simply a wager. You just have to decide if its one that you are comfortable with.

And where does expecting the woman in this situation to exert some self-control come into play? Or do people in this society just expect women to be completely helpless?

You may have missed my point. I wasn't making a morality call, only saying that there is a chance of real physical danger there. Not a large chance, but a chance. And when the danger does rear its head, sometimes its the killer kind. Philosophically, from a moral standpoint, I think that its all the wife's fault. Now, its up to men if they want to reward the wife and therefore reinforce the behavior. But I didn't address that, as I think that is a personal choice for all men. But if the husband disagrees with your morality, then there is a chance that you may wind up in a box. I personally know a few men that would kill in that circumstance. One of them my deceased father. Some men are crazy like that. Luckily, crazy men like that tend to keep loyal wives, as they are pretty alpha. However, there are some beta crazies without loyal wives, and the chance of getting a wife with a "crazy beta" husband goes up with military wives. Your talking about a population of high school educated, lower class guys with extensive weapons training and, depending on the service arm, extensive training that increases their impulsiveness to kill. As far as it being the wife's fault in the eyes of the husband, sometimes the crazy husband takes out both the wife and the other guy.
