ADD: Agree, everything in moderation. I love to grill also just careful to mix it up and tonnes of anti oxidants also. If someone is eating char grilled meats daily, that may be significant risk.

No thanks, sunscreens actually cause cancer but a lot of people here seem convinced that it helps slow the aging process.

any VALID evidence for this?

well, I haven't conducted my own personal experiments but I do have this link you can check out.

After doing some research you can can come to your own conclusions.

Sunscreen is huge if you want to keep your skin young. Overexposure to UVA radiation is the main cause of photoaging. Be careful about the labeling on sunscreen bottles, though--SPF only measures protection from UVB, which will protect you from the majority of skin cancers but won't do anything to stop your skin from aging (UVA has a longer wavelength which allows it to penetrate into the dermis; this is the mechanism responsible for photoaging). Look at the ingredients when you buy sunscreen and select products that offer protection in both the UVA and UVB spectrum.

As for safety concerns, sunscreen doesn't penetrate the epidermis well enough to build up to concentrations anywhere near the point where you'd be worried about toxicity. There's no evidence that it causes cancer, or endocrine pathology, or any other adverse effects aside from allergic reactions which are very rare.

Side effects of procepia:
inability to have or maintain an erection
decreased sexual desire
decreased volume of ejaculate (amount of semen)
pain in the testicles

No thank you! All of these anti-balding medications just seem to be testosterone blockers of some sort.

Also remember being fat is the biggest health risk of all. If eating canned food and grilling your meat will make you more likely to loose weight, then do it so you can get and stay thin, the health benefits of that will outweigh anything else!

Robin Baker of Sperm Wars fame has a chapter about the potential sunscreen/cancer link in his book, Fragile Science:

http://www.robin-baker.com/books/fragile-science/

Great book overall.

Regarding sun damage, I'm less concerned with the superficial effects of sun exposure (ie, wrinkles) than I am with the long-term effects of prolonged vitamin D deficiency. I could supp vitamin D, but my general approach to health is to hold any claim that recommends departing from the hunter-gatherer environment of evolutionary adaptation, to a high standard of proof.

http://www.archevore.com/panu-weblog/200...min-d.html

http://www.marksdailyapple.com/vitamin-d...and-doses/

So my gut tells me to enjoy the sun while avoiding burns, and not smear chemicals all over my body.

Also first I've heard of the grilling-cancer connection, thanks to everyone who contributed on this great thread.

Your hunter-gatherer ancestors didn't live long enough to get skin cancer so it's silly to assume that we're adapted not to get it. Not everything that would be beneficial to our health was evolutionarily adaptive tens of thousands of years ago. All your genes care about is that you survive long enough to produce and raise healthy offspring. From an evolutionary standpoint, once that task is done it doesn't matter what diseases you get.

To add to that, those hunter gatherer ancestors, sure didn't live as long as we do today.

The hunter gather types also didn't have industrialization, modern medicine, antibiotics, and modern homes. Courting could also be deadly. They also had to capture and kill their own food.

Your less likely to get burned from the sun if your O3 to O6 fatty ratio is 1:1 to 1:4.

Aging = oxidizing.

Find a way to minimize oxidization of the body and you got your answer.

Eating raw or lightly cooked broccoli can decrease your risk of multiple cancers:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/201...112501.htm

A well-balanced diet > a cocktail of supplements. There's no other way around it. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated and to flush out toxins.

Aging is also more than just oxidizing. Without going into too much detail--reactive oxygen species (ROS) contribute to the aging process and our life choices can either accelerate or decelerate it, but that's only half the picture. A few other examples: Shortening of telomeres is an evolutionary defense towards cancer, but results in aging. Genetic mutations can lead to age acceleration. You get the picture.

this is true...finasteride has terrible side affects and they are real. especially the erection bit and sex drive...another not mentioned is gyno

however there is NOTHING as effective to stop balding and thicken up your hair...

Vagina juice. It's the true fountain of youth. Don't worry about the rest. Pussy will keep you young. Bath in it, drink it, dip your wick in it. It counteracts the negatives of everything else in life.

is this really necessary if you have a baby face? i would think working out, washing your face and eating decent would be enough to keep it lasting.

It also very much depends on your genetics, Ectomorphs(like me) generally look considerably younger than their years due to holding less body fat.

My trick over the years has been laziness, at 35 I often pass as a man 10 years younger, I have no grey hairs. I can attribute this to not having too much stress in my life. I don't battle through the traffic every day, I don't fester in a cubicle, I don't have a wife/children yet.

I'm not as rich as I would like yet, but my life is good and I have as much pussy as a man can eat.

Sun Screen is bs...work up a tolerance and don't stay out long enough to get burnt at first...also drink a lot of green tea and consume a lot of antioxidants...the sun is good for you...I'd say its one of the best things for you there is....There is a reason the ancients worshiped it. Americans and the industrial world have become cave people it disgusts me...artificial lighting and stale air are the reasons we are so tired, uncreative, suffer from a.d.d. and laziness...Get out in the sun and fresh air. Sun screen just clogs your pores among many other bad things...it's typical american medicine...it just masks the problem it doesn't solve it.

Agreed.

Check the ingredients of your sunscreen guys..

Most of the stuff is way worse for you then sunlight. The best sun screen is the shade.

If you use sunscreen, use a natural organic. Putting chemicals on your face = Bad idea

I put on Neutrogena moisturizer with SPF 15 on my face and neck every morning. I put Walgreens's sunscreen on the rest of the exposed areas of my body when I know I am going to be out in the sun.

Does this stuff really cause cancer?

I am concerned, especially since my dermatologist recommend I put Neutrogena on my face if I wanted to stay looking young!

Also, what about aloe vera lotion? I put that stuff on me after I take a shower every day as well.

Post the ingredients of both and lets see what the forum scientists think.

Things like aloe vera and coconut oil are generally much safer because there are no chemicals involved.

I do remember using Neutrogena Blackhead clearing scrub a couple years ago to get rid of blackheads. I noticed my skin was starting to lighten after about a year of use. Come to find out there was chloride in the shit. I had to discontinue after that. Smart move in checking ingredients, especially if they are chemicals.

Also, good guide.com gives a breakdown of chemicals in different products and specifically points out ingredients that raise a red flag in regards to health concerns. I noticed both skin applicants have an ingredient that is suspected (though not confirmed) in causing skin toxicity. I guess the best advice one can give is to use with caution. I am considering going organic if I can find a natural equivalent.

Great natural ways to protect yourself from sun damage...First, lycopene (you can get the tube of tomatoe paste), next The super-antioxidant astaxanthin, vitamin d supplementation, saturated fats (coconut oil, you can ingest it and rub it on your skin use it as natural sun block, omega 3s are huge for everything but also protecting skin, I take about 10 liquid capsules a day and break them open with my mouth to get into the blood stream faster, Get Some Proanthocyanidins can be found in wine and grapes...grape seed is the shit...I get the big grapes with the seeds and grind them to a pulp in my mouth, and tea, especially green tea should be part of everyones regime, get the organic kind it isn't sprayed with toxins. It prevents dna damage.

Sun screen= chemicals, that's it. They only protect you from uvb rays, the ones that burn you, not uva rays, the ones that cause skin cancer. Don't put anything on your skin that you wouldn't put in your mouth. The skin is the largest organ and abosrobs everything put on it into the body. The FDA doesn't care about you they only care about money. Sun screen actually blocks you fromabsorbing vitamin d which doctors and scientists are no arguing may be the most important vitamin for human health.

Wearing sun screen each and every day seems a bit excessive if you're the typical office worker...just wear a cap and sun glasses when you go out and spend more time in the shade, and most importantly, don't tan.

Sun screens aren't effective the whole day anyway....they need to be reaplied after a while.
