I like the word momentum. No body has predicted the Arab spring starting from Tunisia. Tunisia used to have one of strictest and hardest police for riots and such. It was a surprise. When I was there, it was about "momentum". And looking back, I think the central government has pretty good knowledge of this "momentum" thing. To give you a comparison, Tunisia was pretty much riot free since '83. No one would think that when the riots this time will happen it'll overthrow the government entirely.

Sometimes, you have very silent and calm people. You just keep adding more pressure to that. They don't react. But that's not because they are dead. They are just accumulating the pressure, and then boom.

Now the french aren't notoriously silent. But I still think "momentum" is viable here. I don't know if there is enough momentum for the overthrowing to happen. But if it happens, it'll be quite interesting to watch.

Its very clear from the 43 second video that these protestors were complying with the police and leaving the Burger King. Absolutely no need to hit them.

I don't know what riot SOPs are for the French police but this is clearly over stepping the use of force.

Considering in another clip near the Arc du Triomphe one of the riot police officers got separated from his colleagues and the protestors instead of beating him up, helped him up and pushed him away from the mob, it is pretty disgraceful.

There is another longer clip from inside the Burger King where these cops are beating the protestors inside that are on the ground.

What they should have done is just kick them out or cuff and detain them.

This is coming from someone who supports police.
