Why would you care what people think about you in a club? Those places are warzones.
We all care what people think about us. Even in an anonymous place like this, guys rating the girls they bang routinely round up from 6 to 8. Why? It's not like any of us really know each other. But for whatever reason, we care even what strangers think about us.
Don't get me wrong, when picking up girls, you have to take a chance that you'll sometimes look like a fool. Hell, for true success in many aspects of life, you have to take a chance of looking like a fool. (Trust me, as a guy who's worn spandex on stage, I'm no stranger to
"Some people might think I look pretty stupid . . . " ) But you still decide for yourself what amount of
"possibly look like a fool" risk your willing to take for whatever the reward is.
In the case of dancing to Black Eyed Peas (totally different from the Tango or Salsa) with a girl 20 years younger than I am, it's not just a chance, it's a certainty that a large percentage of the other girls watching are going to be rolling their eyes. Even if they're girls I'll never see again, it would still bug me. Getting shot down on a pickup attempt is one thing. Putting yourself on stage (all eyes will be on you) for mass ridicule is another.
On top of that, when I was in my 20's, I was one of the guys who would laugh at those guys out of their element on the dance floor who, in my eyes, looked so desperate to bang a young chick. So it adds the factor that I'm looking like fool in my own eyes as well.
Again, I'm not saying this won't work. It's just that it costs too many dignity points for me to go that route. Especially when I have other much better options.
