How do you eat clean while travelling?

For the buff guys who train a lot: I’m struggling to eat enough to support my training.

Especially when I’m travelling and constantly eating out, I just can’t keep up with what my body requires.

I’m constantly working on solutions and I’m tracking al my food (I travel with a food scale).

How do you guys keep working on your physique while eating out all the time?

Be more specific. Are you having trouble hitting your total calories or specific macros?

This would work.
(Provided you have access to a simple kitchen of course.)

[Image: attachment.jpg39733]    It`s a healthy diet plan in general, not just for weight loss.

We will stomp to the top with the wind in our teeth.

How do you eat clean while travelling?

When I am traveling, I have someone cook my meals for me. I create a simple diet plan of around 4-5k calories and have them cook my meals twice a week. Since I am eating five to six times a day, I try to eat all my meat grounded, and I make my breakfast drinkable. Since I enjoy living in third world shit-holes, paying someone to cook my meals for five dollars an hour is fairly easy and worth it. And paying someone 200 - 300 dollars in labor plus grocery cost a month to cook all my meals is cheaper than eating at restaurants everyday.

So to break it down, when I travel, I pack about 40 Rubbermaid containers in my luggage and I show up with a copy of my grocery list for the person I am paying to cook my meals, and along with the grocery list, I give them a copy of the meals they will be making and I attach the same copy on my fridge.

I should note that I'm not a foodie and I'm hesitant to heat Rubbermaid containers in the microwave due to cancer reasons, so I eat everything cold.

Here are a few examples from a few years ago. If there is something missing in the shopping list or wrong with the calculation, I don't care. It's just an example.

I hope this helps.

Similar to LINUX, but I find a good local restaurant and screw around with a few of their menu items to fit my plans. For example, if they have fish with fries, I'll ask them to replace the fries with spinach, asparagus, maybe green beans (any above-ground vegetables). Leave a good tip the first few times and get to know the chef.

I follow a low-carb diet similar to the M.E.A.L. diet posted above, but L (non-starchy vegetables) can be any vegetable that grows above the ground, not just leafy greens. You basically want to eliminate grains, sugar, vegetables that grow below the ground, and most fruit (berries, canteloupe and plums are ok in limited quantities).

The following site provides a more comprehensive guide as to what you should eat, and includes some recipes in case you're getting someone to cook for you. The numbers represent % carbohydrate by weight. I follow a very low carb diet, so I limit anything containing more than 5% and refuse anything above 10%.

This topic was not meant to get advice on my diet per se, but rather hear how the fit guys make sure they get the right nutrition while traveling.

I do want to say I do not fare well on low-carb / high fat. My body is made to process carbs, vegetables and a bit of protein.

Linux, that's a great idea. It combines a high control of your food intake with not having to deal with cooking / groceries.

Do you have a process for hiring someone? How do you find them, how do you make sure beforehand they can handle it?

Do they cook at your place or do they just drop the containers off at your door?

I'll do this in my next destination when I'll settle down for 3 months or longer. Great, great set-up.

Rotisserie chickens at the supermarket are my best friend when I'm in the road. Sure they might have some questionable flavorings added, but who cares in the short term. If you need the carbs then add some fruit, nuts and packaged salads and you'll not only eat well but save a shit load of money.

Otherwise if you're only traveling for a short time, eat whatever you damn want. Life's too short to deprive yourself the pleasure of trying out local foods when you're traveling just for the sake of not gaining a couple of pounds.
