Finding myself in Scandinavia with a few days to kill I decided to stop by a city recommended a few years back on the forum (see thread-8877.html). While much of that datasheet remains accurate, i'd i'll add some short updated observations based on my 4 days in town.
Firstly about me - i'm a tall mid 20's Aussie with above average looks of a Mediterranean flavour and what i'd call intermediate game. While I think Helsinborg in general suits a variety of players at different levels for reasons i'll outline, I'd say this city is probably best suited to Anglosphere dudes in their twenties with descent experience who are comfortable with a combination of night and day game and a moderate bankroll to fund nightlife outings.
City/Logistics/Prices:
As Vicious noted in his datasheet, stay near the center. I cannot stress how important logistics are in Helsinborg. I'm from Sydney and found prices to (pleasantly) be cheaper than at home, and than Copenhagen, where i was for the week beforehand. You can get a descent main course in most restaurants around the place for between 75 - 95 SEK, cocktails at high end places cost the same.
I'd also mention that the city is a 20 minute boat ride from Elsinore (Helinsingor) in Denmark. Hopping over to see Hamlet's castle and buy discount booze to pre game with, or to supply your afterparty with your night's conquest is a fun way to break up the monotony of the small town. I'm told there is nightlife over the water but that it skews very young (most girls mentioned they'd been going out in Denmark since 16 due to younger age restrictions).
Girls:
Quality
In terms of talent i'd put the average quality in Helsinborg at around a 5.5-6 in the dating age population. Girls tend to be slimmer than in some of the other Scandinavian cities i've visited (god bless the beach culture in this regard). There is a noticeable Lebanese/Arabic population in the city that have their own little quarter - I got the impression these girls were significantly easier than the classic swedes (as has been noted previously on other sheets).
As Vicious commented in the other sheet, it's pretty hard to justify coming to Sweden for talent of this level given the cost. Happily the top tier talent is plentiful and world class. Plenty of 7's, 8's and 9's to go around for a city so small. The only issue is that many of them are VERY YOUNG, not really a problem for most red blooded males, but it means that the flake factor is high. However this is offset by the warm and open personalities you'll find a plenty here. I didn't really encounter any bitch shields and girls were very happy to chat to a dashing foreigner, even if they would still end up letting friends extract them before the close to go get macdonalds or bus back to their village out of town.
ONS Potential and Gaming Conditions
ONS potential is very high here with the 5 - 6.5's. The 7 - 8's it's still possibly but far more hit and miss. In my experiences there I found it pretty tough to crack the code with girls on this level. For instance I ended up wasting 2 hours of prime nightgame time on a 7.5, who despite encouragements from her girlfriends to head home with the hot foreigner for a night of wild passion, and her buying me a few rounds despite my protests - detached at the last minute.
I also noticed it was very rare to find girls solo in any context other than at their place of work. This makes things very hard insofar as I found it highly challenging to keep more than one of any group engaged in conversation during day game sets, and further very difficult to make the right choice and successfully isolate in night game sets (this was because I was flying solo the whole trip).
Day Game Venues/Areas:
Helsinborg has a killer beach and lots of opportunities along the boardwalk to dump your towel next to some targets. Girls always get a big surprise when you ask in English if they can watch your stuff while you take a quick dip. However I found ROI for beach game to be somewhat lacking. This may have been because I was there at a time when the city festival was on (bringing lots of families into town as well as very young talent), and a festival was on in Malmo (where many of the prime early 20's girls had headed).
There are about 3 Espresso Houses in town, each was a pretty descent spot to strike up conversations, as was the H and M in town. My favourite Day Game spot would probably remain a cafe called Ginger in the center. The logistics of the table set up and menu mean that it's a hub for hot youngsters. I was also recommended to check out a large mall in the area (about a 10 minute bus ride away), but never got around to it.
Night Game:
Helsinborg has pretty solid nightlife for a small place. With less than expected targets on the beach during my first two days there I decided to head out and converted it into more of a night game mission after receiving a ONS on my first night (a Tuesday?) with a HB 7, 28 yo (who looked no older than 23 - people age strangely here).
Generally though this is a weekend town, the weekend i was there was the HX festival. While there were some cool artists I miss calculated and missed the even bigger festival on in Malmo the same weekend which bled a lot of the talent out. I'm told the saturday night in particular was a real let down in comparison to the usual standard - that said for such a small place it still goes off and there are still 7's and above to crack at.
Venues:
Generally I think it's best to think of Helsinborg night venues in three categories:
Local Mainstays:
- Hamnkrogen: Good large outdoor bar area, with easy approaches and a friendly vibe. This place is your best bet on a quiet night, and a good mixing spot as a warm up. It's super easy to meet people here and attracts a diverse crowd. Skews older generally, but I met people between the ages of 19 and 30 here pretty consistently.
- Utposten: Another descent pres place for an older crowd and always the last place open in town. This is a great place to bounce to in order to close, and your girl is 50% likely to suggest it on her own. A few cool bar games and a blackjack table in a small environment.
Pre-Game Bars:
Generally there's a square around the Sankta Maria Kyrka with tributary streets leading off that serves as the nightlife quadrant. Any of the bars and eateries here are a good bet for pregaming and tipping targets for later.
- Pinchos: Circus themed bar, lots of talent in group and mixed sets here pre gaming. If I had a crew of 3-4 guys i'd consider sticking here and opening another group.
- Bikten: Small bar near Pinchos that starts to kick off around 11, just the three proximate clubs get going. Not a bad place to chill with a beer for an hour or so and mix with targets before they enter the next door clubs.
- Café Mezo/Viva: There were for me the coolest part of Helsinborg nightlife and a real boon for mixing with the people of the city generally. They are open air outdoor Lebanese style shisha cafe/bars. The outdoor seating area directly in front of Mezo restraunt has limited and compact seating, so it's very natural to post up next to a two set and ask to share a table, and continue talking from there. I'd recommend this as a fantastic warm up joint. You can also make easy approaches in the (very long) order line, ad girls will usually be happy to join you/visa versa, after a 5 min chat once they realize you're foreign.
- Headless: This place is pretty small and attracts a youngish crowd. The smoking area outside is descent but the ratios are atrocious (as the younger girls are all aiming to get into better venues). Okay early in the night but I would avoid later on.
Clubs:
Age restrictions are really liberally enforced here - but the classic Sweedish/Norwegian (2?+) rule applies randomly barring some of the desirable young patrons from joining you. There are really four main venues in town and are generally considered in the following 'prestige order' based on the age limits.
All the clubs charge around 60 - 100 SEK depending on the night entry.
- Le Cardinal: This place is pretty cool, two solid dancefloors and a smoking area. Generally 20+ yos here but you get younger ones sneaking through. Get in early and ratios are favourable, by 1 am it is an aggressive cockfest full of Older Arabic dudes, drunk young Sweedish student guys with their girlfriends, and the few poor souls with game who have fallen victim to the whims and unpredictable slings and arrows of outrageous sweedish female fortune.
- Sirocco: This place goes off. It's the dirtier, grimier club. One night I was there they paid go go girl dancers to party around in bay watch gear, and sprayed the dancfloor with fire extinguishers and confetti guns. Solid place for a party - not amazing for the pull though, much better as a closing joing once report is established at one of the bar venues.
- The Black Club: Hip Hop club, descent size with a mixed crowd. Did not head here but heard good things.
- Harry's: More of a mixed bar/club, this place struck me as a pre game place attracting larger groups than the club environments of Sirroco and Le Cardinal.
Upshot:
In my 4 days I claimed my flag and another notch. I could have slayed more but made some pretty routine errors and had low energy one night (admittedly I didn't feel cheated out of any really special HBs), and got very unlucky wasting time on what I thought was a sure thing one night before having her eject with no explanation (she may have run into her ex... as the local dudes i met told me, in Sweden you never really know with the girls)
Having said all that, this trip started for me with the Russia world cup and has taken me through the Balts, Ukraine, Finland and Denmark. While Helsinborg has some stunners and the average is passable, in terms of quality and quantity it's not on the level of Ukraine, Lithuania or Russia in my books; and the cost is basically on par with Moscow or Petersburg to give perspective.
I would recommend a stay of a few days for some beach rnr if you find yourself in Copenhagen for any period of time, and I think it could be a good local solo for a week or two (if you were willing to put some dates in for the better chicks), or for a shorter trip if you've got a few solid wings who can run interference on the many cock blocks that come your way, as is understandable in a small town where everyone knows eachother.
