Moving to SEA to play poker

If you can transfer your skills into the physical world, I would recommend Sihanoukville. I knew some Spanish pro players in Shanghai who were doing very well taking money from stupid tu-haos, and I see no reason why you could not do the same in Sihanoukville. Some fifty casinos have opened in the the last year and more are being built.
If you can learn a little Mandarin and organise some security, I reckon you could clean up.

Have you researched the requirements for Thai work visas lately? They've changed a few things for retirees, but not sure about work. Overall there's been a lot of high profile immigration raids lately - you don't want any part of that. No such thing as long term "undocumented" immigrants allowed.

Whatever you do, keep your activities on the DL even of you do get a visa allowing you to work & earn money online. All it takes is a couple of guys and an idea to ruin your day.

Unsponsored Thai work visa is pretty much impossible.
Can do retirement visa if you are old enough, or maybe sign up to a Thai language course.
Thailand is not really such a good LT location for younger guys.

I read about Sihanoukville a few years ago and it seemed like an OK place for playing poker, but I didnt know that they were building SO many casinos! Im definitly gonna read some more about it now and then maybe visit that place, Im not very experienced playing live tho, but it shouldnt be a big problem.

Im not planning on staying in Thailand long term, I only go to Bangkok so that I can get my teeth fixed, heheh.. So there will be no longer than 1 month. After that I plan to go to Philippines for about a month and check out if its a true pussy paradise, and lastly I will go to Vietnam and find a "base" there. From my understanding, its easier with visa in Vietnam. Im 24 btw.

Do you have a dentist lined up in BKK?
If not I could recommend one down in HH where the sea breeze blows away any of the smog that sneaks down from the capital.
I had a really tricky extraction done just last week for just 1000 baht. No pain and no fuss. She is the best dentist I have even been to in all of Asia.
You can get two months in Thailand without any problem, but BKK is a red zone at the moment and CM was just accused of being the third most polluted city on the planet.
PI is indeed a pussy paradise if you have money to spend.
Dealing with VN will be hard work after the friendly people of LOS and PI. Maybe you should think about doing it the other way around.

You can live LT in Mexico for the same money and not have to worry about VISA runs and humidity.

The same could be said for Georgia or Pakistan but I sense that there might be a little bit of yellow fever involved here, which might not make Mexico or the other places so attractive ;-)

Im sending some mails to http://www.bangkokdentalcenter.com, a member here recommended them for me, but I can talk to more centers if you give me a name? What you mean with red zone and what is CM? I dont wanna spend any more time in Bangkok than I have to, its just to get the work done. What is LOS? I dont understand what you mean with other way around..

I have been thinking about Georgia and Mexico, but all the crime in Mexico is a bit scary, maybe its just hyped up by the media, I dont know. Maybe Ill go somewhere else than SEA if I dont like it there. I wouldnt have any problem with mexican girls, I love all types of girls [Image: wink.gif]

Sorry for using so much old hand jargon, you will get used to it once you have been here for a while.

I will try to clarify a few points for you.

"If not I could recommend one down in HH where the sea breeze blows away any of the smog that sneaks down from the capital."

If you check out the news, you will see that BKK has a worse pollution problem than most Chinese cities at the moment. CM, Chiang Mai is even worse and will get even more so over the next few months.
HH is Hua Hin, a beach town a few hours south where the royals and the High Society have their summer homes to beat the heat and the smog. It is also very popular with retired exapats and very westernised.

"I had a really tricky extraction done just last week for just 1000 baht. No pain and no fuss. She is the best dentist I have even been to in all of Asia."

Looks like you BKK hospital is about 2 or 3 times the price, which is to be expected.

"You can get two months in Thailand without any problem, but BKK is a red zone at the moment and CM was just accused of being the third most polluted city on the planet."

See above

"PI is indeed a pussy paradise if you have money to spend."

PI is good for sex tourists, not so much for wannabe PUAs.

"Dealing with VN will be hard work after the friendly people of LOS and PI. Maybe you should think about doing it the other way around."

VN does not have a foreigner friendly culture. They are not warm like Thais and Pinoys. If you really want to go there, I would get it out of the way first.

"I dont wanna spend any more time in Bangkok than I have to, its just to get the work done."

When the air conditions are better, BKK is one of the more interesting and exciting cities in the world. Why do you not want to spend any time there?

I have been thinking about Georgia and Mexico, but all the crime in Mexico is a bit scary, maybe its just hyped up by the media, I dont know.

I was being sarcastic about Georgia and Pakistan. These are places for foodies not for PUAa.
I'd more more comfortable going to Moresby than Mexico, but as you say, the media does hype things up.

I hope that you will not feel offended, but you come across as being a bit young and green. If I were you, I would take take time to acclimatize to Asia in somewhere relatively easy like BKK before heading off to places like PI and VN which are much more third world.

Mexico's crime problem largely doesn't affect white tourists and is overblown in general.

You think the pollution will have a big effect on my health only after one month? Or its just more like it gonna be annoying to live in while im there? I will send you a PM. About staying longer in BKK, its just that I dont think I would like living in such a big city longterm, I have never tried, so I couldnt say for sure ofcourse, I will just have to try and see what Im gonna do, nothing is written in stone. Mexico does seem interesting too, maybe Ill go there later.

Im not going there for the girls, its just a bonus, I have more imprtant things to do, like work, training and living healthy, Im competing in sports, so I have to live a healthy lifestyle. Having one girl I like over a longer period is fine for me, I dont need a new girl everyday or every week, like some guys prefer.

My main goal is to find a decent big city where I can stay long term, not too expensive, gym close to me, not having to take taxi everywhere I go, things like that.

Im not feeling offended, I completely agree, I am young and green, all I have done is reading about SEA. How long would you recommend staying in a place like Bangkok? Having to leave the country after one month for so going back at once, just seems like a big hustle, instead of going to a new place and experience there.

Have a look at the current news reports and see what you think. If you are coming from Shijiazhuang or Ulan Battar then it probably wont bother you.[Image: dodgy.gif]

Three lines later you write
"My main goal is to find a decent big city where I can stay long term"

I would recommend that you try big city Asia before you try small town which might be hard work for you.

First month, no visa required
one month extension 1,900 baht.
Third month, lots of land borders in close proximity
Exploring the orient is part of the fun of being in Asia. Might as well stay at home if you do not like the girls and do not want to see the cultures.

Lots of cheap flights too
BK to PP only 1400 on Air Asia
Return to BKK - rinse and repeat.

BTW, how much do you make per hour playing poker on average?
What is you budget for staying somewhere like BKK.

What I mean with a decent big city is a place like Da Nang, Nha Thrang, Iloilo, Cebu, Davao, Chiang mai etc..This is something im familiar with, not a place with 10m+ pop. I dont know why it would be so hard work with these places, but I might find out. I want to see culture and everything, and I will like the girls, Im sure, I dont know why you say I might as well stay at home.. I make about 20$ an hour, but I might start looking for a new source of income, since it starts making a bit boored playing alot of poker. In Bangkok I guess somewhere between 800-1000$. I want to find a cheaper place to live so that I can save more money, I dont have to party several times a week and spend alot of money.

You won't be doing BKK on 800-1000 a month unless you want to live like a backpacker. Try doubling those numbers.

BKK can easily be done on 1000usd (about 30k baht) a month. Plenty of condos around for 8 to 10k further down the BTS line leaving about 5k a week for living expenses . Granted youre certainly not gonna be eating western restaurant food every day and pretty much forget partying except maybe splitting a bottle with a few other guys once a week. That said he seem seems.more interested in working and building up his online income so I think you're being needlessly negative. Would i personally want to live on 1kusd a month in BKK hell no, but it's very doable ask the 1000s of english teachers on exactly that wage

Yes, thats what Im thinking too, and I wont even be staying in Bkk longterm, since its one of the most expensive cities there, if not the most expensive. I have lived in Oslo for about 1100-1300$ a month, and It was very good, no problem.
