I would revise this comment thusly.

Women goes nut for objects that give them social proof in the eyes of their fellow lizards.

Men go nuts for items of quality, durability, and dependability -- objects that reflect achievement, success, and personal growth. Of course, that's why those objects will NEVER be on sale for 75% off.

This inherently feminine trait is the basis for the entirety of our modern economic system. This same system encourages such materialism among them (media, advertising, etc) and always will, because a) it knows women are very easily susceptible to it(85% of consumer spending, lower savings rate than men) and b) it depends on consumption to survive (read: grow, grow, grow).

Is this model sustainable? I don't know. I say just enjoy the ride, be prudent about your own finances and don't trust your credit card around your girl.

No they're status symbols for the most part. Guy status symbols. BMWs, Mercedes, Porche's, Exotics etc are not dependable or durable cars. They can be fun although. If your going for durability and dependability, you'd be going for New Hyundais and Hondas.

Computers, SLRs, other electronics, home theaters, hunting equipment, expensive carbon fiber bikes, ATVs, etc are all guy toys too.

Girls its about shoes, furniture, clothes, fucking purses, makeup, perfume, jewelry, iphones, cute electronics, etc.
