Was just thinking about going to the gym at the morning (lifting) and then at night play some tennis which is a sport I like. Am I overworking my muscles ?

No. I used to play decent level hockey, what I would do if it was game day is I'd go and do stretches and some light work. If it was a practice day, I'd do a full routine. Just make sure to eat, you'll be fine.

This is actually the best way to do it, unless if the sport is a very physical sport like tackle football.
It's going to depend on your workout program.

Depends on your age too. I'm almost 35 and now way I can deadlift or squat heavy and then go all out on the basketball court. For me it's either or.
