Marijuana Stocks

Has any one considered buying into these stocks as it is becoming legal in many US States? Looking to hold on long term, figured it might be good to start early while they are cheap

Trump administration very well may crush this movement. He's voiced his disdain for it.

Trump won't crush the movement. There won't be any forward progress, but it wont be crushed despite how pro-Big Pharma Sessions is [Image: dodgy.gif]

When the marijuana stocks were happening in Canada I was thinking about using a straddle strategy with them but I didn't pull the trigger. Don't know what happened with it because I wasn't really following it.

There was already a thread on this subject from ROK comment sections:

Clark Kent, i believe, posted this link to marijuana stocks:

Please Post which penny stocks you are referring to.

Also it does NOT seem like a federal crack down is coming anytime soon. Jeff Sessions met with Colorado's governor concerning MJ crackdown:

But the new spending bill only protects medical, and not recreational programs:
https://mjbizdaily.com/congress-keeps-me...dget-deal/

So say for example, California, is both medical (MCRSA) and now has recreational (AUMA- Prop 64). However, the state recently proposed a combining of both medical and recreational
http://www.cannalawblog.com/icymi-califo...gulations/

What this means, if California goes the route of merging recreational laws that swallow its medical program, then California being the biggest market could later face a federal crack down since the Spending Bill only protects from Medical and not recreational programs.

I doubt a federal crack down will be had. Jeff Sessions is a big war on drugs kind of guy. However, Trump and other Republicans strongly believe in state's rights and state sovereignty. Marijuana being known for a "hippy drug" in mass media, paradoxically, is an issue that Republicans are actually pushing for in protection.

Dana Rohrabacher is a Republican from Orange County, CA and has been the at the forefront of allowing States to implement their own marijuana regulatory scheme.

My final thought: Marijuana is a shady business. I've been working as a lawyer in the MJ industry for the past year... and man... there are some fucked up people in this business. A ton of scammers.

It will take time until this industry becomes actually legit both in its practices and operations. Marijuana has a ton of medicinal benefits that have been suppressed due to the war on drugs.

But investment wise: there is a lot of potential and dangers. Do extreme vetting before getting involved or investing a penny with any company.

Not true. Only Jeff Session is against it and congress just voted today to not allocate any funds towards federal enforcement of the marijuana laws (bipartisan proposal).

This dude Jeff Sessions has been living under a rock the last fifty years lol.

I was watching a bunch of these micro cap stocks in late 2013/early 2014. There was clearly a lot of pumping and dumping going on. Approach with extreme caution.

It's true. Spicer's talked about it too in his meetings. They clarified they aren't against it for those truly suffering who need it for medical use, however, recreational use is frowned upon by the admin.

Overall, Trump's a negative for these stocks.

I'm a stockbroker and every time I hear someone ask about pot stocks, I shake my head. People have been asking about marijuanna stocks for years. There's many other much more promising sectors in the stock market.

Get the basics out of the way so you can be wealthy by 40ish then worry about stock picks second. Time is on your side big time.

The basics:

1. Invest 10% or more of everything you earn in growth stock mutual funds (preferably in IRA accounts) Set these accounts up with a good no load mutual fund company or do it through your employer's 401k.
2. Don't run up credit card debt. You can have one, but pay it off each month. Also, don't run up debt in general (high interest).
3. Obvious here but, get a good paying job. One you enjoy preferably. Use the cash flow to fund your mutual funds.
4. Once you get that going, if you have extra money to invest, read "How to Make Money in Stocks" by O'Neill and Mark Minervini's two books. I'd read them a few times.

If you understand the material in these books, you'll be able to pick stocks in favorable technical set ups which is the right way to identify future big winners.

Get the mutual funds going first, because if you do that, that's almost a "sure thing" in terms of having a nice big nest egg when you're not too old. You'll be ahead of 90% of other people your age if you do just 1,2 and 3.
