Operation: Oslo

First and foremost, this is one of the most challenging trip reports I have written, mainly due to the timing of the trip. I was warned that Eastern week would be dead as most people flee to their cabins and the ski slopes. I figured how bad can a European capital be in April? I wasn’t prepared for how desolate the city was from Thursday through Sunday of Holy week. I didn’t take Norwegians for a religious bunch like Italians or Eastern Europeans during Orthodox weekend. My suspicion was confirmed that they really aren’t that religious; however, the city basically was shut down for 4 days as many left for vacation outside the city.

In January, Strelka and I visited Iceland for a long weekend and were thoroughly impressed with the Scandinavian beauty. Neither of us pulled in Iceland during this short trip, so we felt like we had some unfinished business with the Viking women. Unfortunately, our trip was scheduled at the worst possible time. Therefore, consider these impressions based on our experiences, not being fully representative of what Oslo has to offer.

Costs

From the U.S. and Europe, you can purchase cheap flights on Norwegian airlines. My return one-way ticket to the U.S. was only $150. However, once you arrive in Oslo you will find that it is one of the most expensive cities in the world. Taxi prices are the highest I have encountered. It was $30 for 5-minute taxi ride. A taxi from the airport to the center will run you almost $500. Fortunately, the Airport Express train is about $12. Make sure to stock up on boozes at the airport. Alcohol is very expensive and during the holiday, the hours to purchase it were significantly limited.

Here is a list of prices:

Breakfast (1 person) – $28
Dinner (mid-range 1 person – entry) – $40-$60
Liquor (higher-end bar/club) – 1 shot of vodka ($10-$12)
Beer (higher-end bar/club) – ($8-9)
Cigarettes – $11
Chicken (2.2lbs. / 1kg) – $18
Cheese (2.2lbs / 1kg) – $13
Assorted Fruits (2.2lbs / 1kg) – $3-5

Logistics

The center of Oslo is very walkable. It is advisable to rent an apartment within a ten-minute walk of Karl Johan’s Gate or in Grunerlokka, which is the Williamsburg of Oslo with an emerging Hipster scene filled with cafes, bars and coffee shops. I rented an apartment in Grunerlokka for $60 per night. Strelka rented a pad for around $80 closer to Johan’s Gate. Johan’s Gate is much more touristy than Grunerlokka. However, the only tourists we saw were a few beat Asians. My apartment was about a 20-minute walk to Central Station and 4 stops on the tram, which was very convenient.

Women and Sex Culture

With Norway under my belt, I have now been to every Scandinavian country. As many of you know, I sing the praises of Russian women for their beauty and disposition. Moscow is my favorite city in the world. However, I rate the faces of Scandinavian women the highest. We met one of the hottest girls I have seen in my life. Her Scandinavian name literally meant “Goddess of Youth.” Her parents couldn’t have selected a more appropriate name.

Their faces are softer and gentler than their Slavic counterparts. Norway is no exception. I saw some of the most beautiful faces in Oslo. If you are into blondes, I would add Norway to Iceland and Sweden as the top countries. What they garner in points for their facial beauty, they lose in femininity. You will not see many girls in high heels or dresses like in Eastern Europe. Girls are also thicker and more muscular than in the Slavic world.

Oslo is the New York of Scandinavian. If New York is Slut Island, Oslo is the Viking capital for easy sex. This is predominantly a one-night stand culture. I heard it from women and men alike of how liberal the people of Oslo are when it comes to sex. People bang, then bang another two or three times, before ever setting up a first date.

I was able to attend my first after party in Oslo. It is well established that you should invite a girl back for an after party. The after party is a euphemism for an invitation to hook-up and it is the cultural standard getting things on.

Game

Americans and Brits are well-received here. Norwegians have the highest command of the English language for any non-native English speaking country I have been to.

Due to the lack of quantity and cold weather, I only managed a hand full of approaches during the day, which all but one resulted in a number close. There is huge potential for Daygame here. Locals do not approach during the day. Johan’s Gate and Grunerlokka are solid for street approaches. There are also a few malls close to Central Station which I saw the highest quality.

I had the impression that a man with solid Daygame could kill it here. I cannot wait to return to run some proper Daygame. The only drawback is that setting up dates from Daygame will be costly.

Nightgame is very viable for fast sex. As previously discussed, women frankly are sluts. Fast, casual sex is the norm in Oslo. Norwegian men do approach at night, but only after they have a buzz. The men are tall and good-looking, but a player with solid Game will do quite well in Oslo at night and won’t need to be concerned with the competition. Clubs usually close between 2am. and 3 a.m.

Venues were limited during the holiday. We went to Jaeger Bar twice and also checked about John’s Bar and Lava club.

On our last night, we gave gutter game a shot. Similar to Iceland, Oslo can be quite good for meeting girls on the street after they are already drunk.

Conclusion

Do not come to Oslo during Easter! With that said, I was able to capture my Norwegian flag and had a nice make- out with a second girl. Not bad for a poorly planned trip. I saw enough that I want to return to Oslo and also hit Bergen and some cities to the north.

Strelka and I were invited to an Easter dinner followed by a club and an after party, which was one of the most bizarre evenings I have had in recently times. The Easter party was at a girl’s house whom I had met before. It started out as a small get together with her friends and family. After several hours of eating and drinking we hit the club, only to return for the afterparty. The afterparty turned into a booze and coke fest attended by all walks of life ranging from worldly professionals to derelict drug dealers. During the course of this evening I witnessed the best and worst of Scandinavian culture.

The people of Oslo party hard. They have adapted their party culture to minimize cost by pre-drinking parties and after parties. This is a great place for a man who has looks, Game and a decent bankroll to crack into some high-end talent. Budget travelers should stay away as the high prices will limit your ability to have fun.

Social circle makes a huge difference. I was introduced to several hot girls from the girl that I knew. Make local friends and it will pay dividends on receiving invitations to pre-drinking and after parties.

Shout out to Pornopung, cool local guy with great Nightgame. He was generous with his knowledge on Oslo. I recommend hitting him up if you are in Oslo. Also, Bateman and Riskitbiscuit whom I did not have a chance to meet, but they provided me with valuable intel via pm.

Until next time,

Dantes

I would definitely live in the Nordic countries if I could bank roll it, so I love reading threads on Scandinavian cities. There were some nice insights in there. Good post.

Would you say Sweden and Norway were even in terms of how good looking the women were?

Nice Sheet, Dantes.

Those Norwegian flights are well priced from New York, over time they'll probably add connections. One way from Riga to New York is $200 (plus about 80 bucks for bag and seat reservation if you're doing more then a weekend trip)

The prices are so high. People often put Paris and New York as some of the most expensive cities, the thing is, they dont come even close to Oslo. I'm pretty sure I eat kebab all weekend and it was still like $15 for a meal. On the other hand, its keeps all the tourists away which is good for us.

A lot of Norwegian people have told me they bring an empty suitcase when they visit New York and just load up on designer clothes

Norwegian girls are super easy. No Sex Tourists. A lot easier then Sweden. The girls I think are better looking.

Airport Express is $21(not that cheap lol)

You'll notice a lot of immigrants hanging around the main station and near the center, but they're nothing to worry about. There seems to be a high concentration of Africans, specifically from Somalia.

Dantes started chatting up a girl who claimed her name meant "Goddess of Youth". She was nothing far from it, probably one of the finest looking women I saw during the duration of the trip. Lone behold, a few minutes later, enters her crusty looking Somalian boyfriend. This was the equivalent of a mismatch you'd see in the FSU, actually, probably even worse.

Seemingly after that, we'd notice even more and more girls with what seemed to be guys straight off the boat from Somalia - couldn't help but laugh after the first experience.

All in all, seems like darker players would do well here, based on the observance of how Somalians and the other Africans are doing there.

Yes, the Airport Express is $21. I referring to a different train that makes two stops in route to Central Station from the airport, which is about $11.

Yeah, stick with the "NBS" train (you'll see ticket machines in the airport before you exit the building) - as mentioned, it's half the price of the airport express, and takes only a few extra minutes max. Connecting via the main station, and national theater which are right in the center/downtown area.

Nice sheet and pretty accurate. Let me know if you return for a better planned visit and we can do Oslo the proper way. There were some decent venues during the easter weekend... However Lawo on Saturday night (one of Oslo's biggest clubs) was the absolute worst I've ever seen, total sausage fest. And I've been there a couple of dozen times.

I have lived in Oslo a while now. I do plan to write a data sheet with some detail on nightgame and daygame locations - and how to do Oslo as cheap as possible. Your price examples are quite accurate, but with local knowledge you can get by with much less - I've certainly never paid $28 for a breakfast. I get a nice lunch for $7 on the nearest corner.

As pointed out above, the airport express train costs $23 but the NSB train which takes two minutes longer is $11.

Quick daygame tip (didn't mention it to Dantes because he was here when shops were closed): Head to the street Bogstadveien, which starts just northwest of the royal castle. It's where the fashionable girls in Oslo go to do their clothes shopping. Also lots of hot girls working in the stores. To be honest the malls around the central station is the last place I would daygame (unless it's a cold Easter day... hehe), unless you're going for immigrant girls and girls visiting from other parts of Norway. Better quality further west and in trendy areas like Grünerløkka. However I'm not a daygamer, so take my advice with a grain of salt.

Great report Dantes.

Can I ask how much you spent, not including airfare ticket?

I was there about 8 years ago and the prices were crazy, on par with Zurich in terms of most expensive places I have been too.

I got a flag from a chick from Trondheim, always curious about checking that spot out as well.

I have a mate that lives in Bergen, but those prices have me staying away for now.

Rudeboy,

Thanks for the feedback.

I am not great on keeping an account of how much I spend on trips. Strelka may want to chime in here as he was taking some notes on the cost. I spent $60 per night for an Airbnb apartment. Drinks are expensive (roughly $10-12 for a drink at a bar) but coming from New York I am accustomed to high drink prices. I also don't drink much so it didn't affect my budget all that much. I bought a small bottle of vodka at the airport, which was roughly $15. The price of a coat check stood out to me being $4.

Geneva is the most expensive city I have been to. I paid roughly $18 for a sandwich at Subway and a bottle of water.

The biggest killer in Oslo are taxi prices. I used a taxi twice after two late nights at a club. The ride was only 5 minutes tops and cost $30. The Trams stopped running at this hour and I would have walked but the temperature dropped to the 20s F. it is worth paying extra for an apartment in the center because taxi prices will be a killer. I was also told that Uber is very limited and technically illegal. Some locals told me that they use Facebook pages for ride-sharing.

You can cut down on the cost of Oslo through buying food at grocery stores or at ethnic food joints. I paid roughly $6 for a falafel sandwich. Also, drinking in your apartment before going is what most locals do.

I heard some good things about Trondheim from the locals. I heard that this is the place if you want to find girls more suitable for LTR or mini-relationships.

Prices are on the higher side, but nothing you won't be used to if you're coming from larger cities such as NYC or capitals in Western Europe. Of course, alcohol and tobacco not purchased at duty free will set you back quite a bit. This is always a must for Scandinavia.

I spent roughly $425 in 4 nights. That included transportation to and from both airports (about $11 from Gardermoen and $27 to Torp Airport from Oslo station), alcohol and going out at night, lunch and mini meals during the day and healthy grocery supplies to cook at home. I normally dine out often, but didn't on this trip. That total cost includes no dinner meals.

Avoid taxis at all costs. I spent roughly $35 to go about a mile/1.5 km.

I haven't spent enough time to make a thorough comparison. My initial impression is that the average is better in Sweden. There are also a lot of Swedes living in Norway.

It might be analogous to comparing Kiev and Moscow. It is splitting hairs, but I find the average higher in Kiev, but my preference is for the girls in Moscow. Talent wise, most men will be happy in both cities.

In comparing capitals, I prefer Oslo over Stockholm. The center of Oslo seemed more walkable and I think you can secure tighter logistics in Oslo.

The reason for the extreme taxi price is probably that you paid an extra holiday charge on top of the already high night and weekend surcharge. However, it's always expensive.

Uber is 30-50% cheaper, but has limited availability because authorities are cracking down on it. As far as I know there's no risk for the customer, only the driver.

Some buses run all night, but not trams and metro.

For those flying to/from the smaller Sandefjord Torp airport with Wizz Air, you can save a few bucks by using one of the Polish transfer companies (you will take an old minibus with most likely only Polish people). May take a bit longer but they also offer driving you all the way to your destination address. Booking in advance is necessary. Example: http://www.polskibuss.com

If we fly to Oslo from Milan, do we get our passports checked at Oslo airport? I don't care about me, because I have Italian passport but my friend has American passport, could be problem for him. He gets into EU via Poland/Hungary because of the loophole.

Hi,

You do not get your passports checked. Norway, although not part of European union, is part of Schengen space, so once you're inside of it you can roam free inside certain European countries, including Italy.

I've been to Oslo twice and honestly didn't feel that expensive. At night I managed to have dinner at restaurants for like 20 euros. I used to go to Italians on "aker bridge"area (area with lots of bars and ristorants) and eat a pasta plus a beer and all those restaurants around were around that price. Even with an entrée it doesn't go more than 25, and it was decent quality. The restaurants were full of chicks in groups, getting boozed up for the bars.
Of course, you can spend way more specially if you order any wine or eat like a beast. But I felt I was paying just 10 euros more I would pay in Lisbon so not really much. I remember the beer in the restaurant was 5 euros, of course the local one on tap.
On the other hand, on the bars around it was like 8/9 euros for a beer.
Regarding grocery prices, when I needed to buy anything I would go to the more hood area. Really close to the central station, on the way to grunerloka, there's a block of streets around storgata full of immigrants and their grocery stores. I must say I found things as cheap as in Portugal, I was really surprised.for the basics like fruit and pasta or vegetables I felt like in Portugal. The exception was meat and fish but nothing really unaffordable. Alcohol is just crazy even in the supermarket, but I guess if you wanna be drunk buy a bootle of vodka and drink it trough 3 days or just drink 2 beers a night.
Oslo is a cool city, everything is close by and walkable if you live in the center, forget taxis, it's crazy there.

Just to add for those who are working during their trip or just wanted to stay connected - data coverage and prepaid SIM card prices were quite expensive for coverage there as well from what I saw. This was one of the few cases where I didn't buy a local SIM card when arriving, and opted to use one of the other cards I had on me to roam for about $3 per day.

I'd imagine this won't be something to take in to consideration any longer once summer comes, and the new roaming laws take place, if you already have a pre-paid option from one of the other cheaper EU countries (i.e. prepaid Mobile Vikings SIM in Poland for 7 USD unlimited everything + 16GB data)

to me, a decent amount are fat or big (but im also not a big guy)

and by softer/gentler facial features, do you mean more rounder faces?

for example:

would you say a girl like below is rarer?(smaller/more delicate - both face and body)

Whiteknightrises,

Yes, I would say these pictures are a good representation. Their faces are rounder giving a softer/gentler look. Some of the girls carry a few extra pounds. However, obesity is not an issue. They are just not as slim as the Slavic girls.

The quality on Tinder was very good. As in any city, men will have varying degrees of success matching. Due to the timing, I am not in a position to give a full analysis of online dating. My sense is that Tinder is fairly common, but girls are approachable so I wouldn't use it as the primary means of meeting them. They are approachable during the day and at night. Perhaps some of the locals guys like Pornopung can weigh in on this.

On a sidenote, I saw a few girls with orange, fake tans. One girl told me that this is a recent trend among girls. This is a shame if true because the girls have beautiful Nordic skin.
