Facebook Ads for Idiots

I was going to message this to a few members with blogs, but figured I'd post it publicly to help the forum out. This could literally be used for any business, from blogs to bookstores to brothels to bands.

I've been working in IM for the past year and there's a ton of money you're missing out on if you aren't using Facebook. inb4 "Cuckerberg" jokes, he's done an amazing job adding features/innovation to keep engagement sky high. Remember MySpace? Yeah me neither.

I'm not going to go into the details of why to use FB ads more than - it's fucking cheap because you can target like crazy. Facebook has so much data you can hit whoever you want with ads for cheap.

One of the best ways to get business is retargeting. All you do is setup an ad to hit people who've read your website in the past 180 days. For blogs the audience will be small, which is GOOD, because it'll be cheap as hell.

How do you find who hits your site? Facebook Pixel. The Pixel is a cookie that fires when someone visits your site. You literally install one line of code to your site and FB picks it up.

Even if you aren't running FB ads right now, it's useful to collect pixel data starting today. More visits = more data = better targeting. Once you collect data on people who view your site, you can run ads to people SIMILAR to people who viewed your site, opening up the net.

Facebook Ads changes regularly but here's a basic outline of how to do this from scratch.

1. Create FB Business Manager account - [url=http://business.facebook.com]business.facebook.com

2. Add page to Business Manger

https://www.facebook.com/business/help/720478807965744

3. Create ad account

3. Get your pixel ID.

Business Manger ---> click on the upper right corner that says "Ad Manager" ---> "Pixels." On the right hand side you'll see your Pixel ID.

4. Add pixel to website. Here's a wordpress plugin, PixelYourSite, that does it fast AF on all your pages.

5. Create a custom audience from website views.

Business manager ---> Audiences ---> Create Custom Audience ---> Website Traffic ---> Anyone who visits your website, 180 Days, Title "All Page Views 180"

6. Run an ad

Ads manager ---> Create Ad ---> Once you get to Audience, choose the audience you created in step #5

Now you can send an ad to people who've visited your site.

Make sure you are taking advantage of retargeting. These days you can bypass a lot of what we had to do with email by retargeting those people that hit your website with different ads.

No brothels on Facebook, no dating apps, no dating books. You got to find your way for wording around fitness or you will get flagged, you can even find your way around dating stuff if you know how to word it, but it's hard.

Btw. use Power Editor to create ads, Ads Manager is shitty for that, use Ads Manager for stats.

Yep, ten years ago it was "SIGN UP FOR MY EMAIL LIST NOWWW!!" Now it's become much less necessary.

Haha okay you got me on the TOS no brothels. Dating you can skate around. Someone with MASTERFUL targeting started hitting me with "how to get laid on Instagram." Vinny? Was that you???

Fitness is very much manageable as long as you watch the wording. "Do you hate being fat?" will get shot down 10/10 but "would you like to bust your fitness goals?" will get passed.

Another tip:

Don't have your personal Facebook account linked to your advertising account. Create another account.

If you ever get temp or perma-banned by Facebook for something you wrote, you won't be able to edit your ads. (Because technically they're considered posts).

I learned this the hard way. I got into an epic cyber fight with an aggressive tranny in one of my Facebook groups. The poor bloke was on the verge of suicide by the time I had finished with him. Immensely satisfying, but I got temp banned. I couldn't edit any of my ad sets for a couple says, and it cost me a pretty penny.

Or you can avoid the issue completely by not getting into an "epic cyber fight." [Image: tard.gif]

I've learned to compartmentalize -

Facebook = friends, business
Instagram = bitches
RVF = dating, culture war

Well I had many fitness and some dating clients. The only way for dating to pass is to advertise it as "networking" and such AKA paid messenger app with insta models, playmates, bilzerian girls. Words like "get laid" would get flagged immediately, maybe you been targeted but I would not believe that the ad would survive a day. I guess bangladeshi slaves were sleeping during that time or something.

BTW. No before/after pics for fitness, certain percentage of skin exposure is tolerated, not more (I think 80%). etc.

I'm still blown away by it. It's simply remarkable that you can build a relationship without asking for a customer's email. Back in the day, it was one shot at getting that email when they hit that page. After that it was lost unless they came back but the percentage was highly unlikely that they were going to come back.

Now you can continue getting them aclimated to you and build a relationship without ever asking for an email.

You essentially turn cold traffic into warm without ever emailing them (You should still try to get their emails of course).

It was a huge shift in how to approach people. Especially in massive markets where everyone is trying to get emails. It seems like most people are still trying to get those emails right away. It's much easier to stand out by not being so needy. haha

Thanks for all the info, I am starting to check Facebook Ads.

5. Create a custom audience from website views.

Business manager ---> Audiences ---> Create Custom Audience ---> Website Traffic ---> Anyone who visits your website, 180 Days, Title "All Page Views 180"

Is it possible to create an audience of: (Anyone who visits your website, 180 Days)
AND age > 18.

I would like to add an age criterion to the custom audience.

You select that later during creation of the campaign on ADSET level.

Won't Facebook ban you anyway if you try to make two accounts? What if my business account is already tied to my personal account? How do I UNDO it?

Reason I ask is that I am about to get deep into FB ads but do not wish my friends or family knowing my pen names. Last thing I need is some vindictive ex writing one bad (fake) review after another. I honestly do not know why Roosh wanted everything public for his own books.

I remember something Stephen King said: "Once I did that American Express commercial in the 80s, everyone knew who I was."

In theory, I believe it is against Facebook's TOS.

But in practice, the enforcement just isn't there. Heck, half the FB accounts on Tinder are secondary accounts with zero personal information.

As far as I know, there is no way to separate your personal account from the business manager. You're looking at starting from scratch.

First solution would be not to have any crazy ex's.

Second would be:

-Set up business manager under pen name
-Set up ad account with ^^^
-Lock up personal account
-Completely separate the two, there will be no way for your personal page to be linked with your business page as long as you don't cross post. This will keep your business page clean, which you can completely moderate the content on it.

Facebook is pushing more and more for business pages anyway.

Pretty good primer on FB ads, detailed yet simple for newbies to not get lost/confused.

I've played around with Google Adwords and it was very technical. This seems to be much simpler.

While we caution against putting your life on blast in social media, it seems to be the trend for the general population. Might as well take advantage of it.

Yes, Facebook knows the best way to get money is to make it easy for people to spend money.

This is how "Boost Post" came to exist. Anybody with a biz page can go on, enter their CC info, and boost one of their posts to the entire world. Pumping money into it for no reason. Genius.

Ads is not even putting your whole life on social media, you can get one strong ad to a landing page and succeed. Most won't look at your page.

I just got back into fb ads and Shopify about a month ago (some other projects got in the way) and I'm already hitting 1k days quite easily. Facebook attention is undervalued at the moment and I doubt it will stay this way for more than a year or so. Get on board now if you want to cash in, whatever your niche.

So are you sending people to an email capture page or do you just direct them to the sales page straight away?

A blogger who is retargeting as the OP describes. Trying to sell an ebook to blog readers.

@redbeard Do you have a workaround for the temporary ban when you switch IP address either because of VPNs or just travelling around? Its very annoying to contact any Facebook employee 2-3 times just to get a response every time I get my adverts account suspended.

They have no customer support at all, which is very weird.

Also when you create a page, do you try to build up a bit of following ('engagement ads') first and then send them straight to conversions ads assuming the targeting is right?

Good question.

I'd do email capture on your blog, like Roosh does so well. "Free Text Guide" to get on email list.

Have a sales page for your book and retarget website viewers the day after they view your page with the book. Or if you're really out there, hit them with an informational video to sell "YOU" a little more. Then retarget those to sales page.

I'm working from a VPN right now, traveling around, and don't have issues.

Are you doing anything suspicious? Is your account suspended for this or breaking TOS?

I definitely think so, with a small budget you can build up your follower count easily. Even if you do it just for the social proof it's worth it, you might even get some sales off it.

It's not necessary, but helps.
