PSA: Tinder Social is outing you to your facebook friends

I thought of writing this in the Tinder thread but it might just get lost between the messages.

So...this new Tinder Social feature is outing you to your friends now.
When you try to form a new group it shows you a list of people and you can see which of your facebook friends are using Tinder. It shows everyone, not just people in your current location. You can even see which of them are already in a group.

Between this and the whatsapp/facebook shared database it's getting harder and harder to keep your anonimity online.
So be careful, and use a burner facebook account if you have a gf or don't want your friends to know about it.

It's time to let Tinder die in the USA. Of course, international and pipelining might be useful. There needs to be a social proof or some barrier to entry or you'll end up wasting more of your time and money on these apps, chasing fatties you'd never even consider approaching. A 7 on Tinder is like a 10+ in "real life". It's a joke.

Absolutely true in my experience. Tinder in Russia is still not bad at all. Tinder in USA is complete shit. Full circle back to cold approach for the win.

If you're banging girls outside your marriage/engagement, don't fucking social dating apps, do it old school.

If you're banging girls outside your LTR - yes, use a burner account, and deny till you die if you get caught, I convinced my last LTR that I had a crazy ex who tries catfishing me and was trying to ruin my life.

As far as "outing" you to your friends - SO MANY people use Tinder - it's the norm, shit it's not embarrassing at all.

Hell I post screenshots of hilarious convos and the worst girl's profiles.

One more reason not to use Facebook.

This "Tinder Social" thing sounds queer as a three dollar bill. Wby would anyone want to sign up to entertain a bunch of Tinder girls in a mixed-sex group, anyway?

It's like those OKCupid events where you're supposed to go to some trendy bar in Cambridge to play "Cards Against Humanity" and sip 14 dollar cocktails with a few mid 30s cat ladies. I couldn't sign up for them even if I wanted to, because the minute the event is open for reservations all the slots are taken by dudes. What a sausagefest that town is.

Who signs up for this stuff?

Pretty sure the app developers realize that the golden age of online dating has passed, and they're just a discount Facebook substitute these days.

You can deactivate it and it doesn't show you to anyone right?

What's your ratio of men to women in the list of people that can be in your group? I'm seeing 16 guys and 2 girls. The actual ratio of my FB friends is definitely not that extreme.

This is why I recommend using a fake Facebook for Tinder.

You don't even need to enable social to see your friends, you can use this app:

Damn! Only just got a tinder a couple months ago but I would not want that known amongst all my Facebook friends! Fuck. What a terrible feature.

You won't be outed if you decline Tinder Social (I think). Just hit the no thanks on the dialog box when it tries to opt you in.

If you are already opted in delete your account and start over.

All these dating apps are targeted towards women from the simple designs that a child can use (for example OKCupid was remade to look like Facebook) to the fucking left, right swiping to make it simple, ruthlessly swift and like a children's game only instead of pokeman it's pokedick with the added benefit of validation on the go. Does my latest duck face look good? I don't know I'll upload it on Tinder and Instagram and find out.

With all that in mind Tinder "Social" is for women to get validation from men when they are with the group of girls they go out with, as if they need any more validation. The route one way I could see it working for guys is if it's two girls who are drunk around midnight in town and they match with two guys, the guys text them late in the night to see where they are, they find them in some bar (already warmed up from all the other guys who have chatted them up) and get to escalate and potentially bang them. Even that is a longshot.

More than two girls and mixed groups are a fucking waste of time.

I'm not going to bother with this bollocks. Leave it to the amateurs.

Why does it matter? Everyone and their mom is on tinder.
It's not taboo to be on tinder these days.
