China has been really popular in the last years for business and cheap prices. I am wondering when business people visit China if they buy their products in normal shops/markets or they usually buy it from wholesalers. Do you find cheap products in China everywhere you go?

I am looking to buy construction materials from China, anybody have any recommendations on how can i do this?

For almost any of your legal and business questions regarding China, I would start with China Law Blog.

That goes for anyone interested in China in general - this is a great blog that covers business/law mostly but also makes lots of references to other things such as consumer markets, trends, and politics.

Or just go to Home Depot and write down who manufactures what you want and just start back-track researching it.

I buy stuff for my houses from China all the time, but I know a lot of Chinese people.

Watch out when it comes to sizes. I got screwed and bought half the tile I needed for a job when I thought I was over ordering. They were totaling things up differently than I was. It took a month to get the stuff, and I looked like a jackass.

You also need to watch the shipping. Some friends and I found a company that makes styrofoam stuff, so we got them to start making surfboard blanks. We got the greatest prices, but even with whole containers things get sent everywhere if you don't stay on top of it.

As far as I know, some business company buy from Trade Fair on Oct 20th - Nov 1st. But if you don't know the local shop in China, you'd better buy online. As i know that some people buy directly from Taobao, which trade as China Ebay, you can find everything there. The only shortage is that you can not pay via paypal or credit card not accept China Bank. Also some business companies buy from taobao agent. Like http://www.smalltao.com, taobaoes, yoybuy and so on.
