Based on testimonies of fellow students, I'm more inclined to believe them or the professor himself. Even if the professor did indeed steal the source code..psycho boy didn't have to resort to that. Shooting his ex-gf = further proof of his insanity.
Not to go off topic, but I also read the man was an "associate" professor. There are times when these professors without tenure will steal research from their graduate students and use it as their own.
These teachers are evaluated on:
A) How "effectively" they teach within a 3 year period.
B) The content of their research (4 publications per year in a 3 year period)
There are instances when these professors are handed "busy" courses to teach like say 4-5 classes per semester. Even if you say "yes" to overworking yourself, you can still be refused tenure if your publications are deemed "unworthy."
Then are cases where even tenured professors will stimulate great research out of their students only to use that material (without permission) for their own publications or in house promotions = more $$$ in their pockets.
So yeah academia can be a very cutthroat world...though you never want to see it end in murders.
