Cambodia Trip Report 2016 Siem Riep Phnom Penh

I recently went to Cambodia for two weeks to see the country. My plan was to go to Siem Riep for 1 week and then Phnom Penh 1 week.

In Siem Riep foreigners cannot rent motorbikes, only electric bikes. I recommend electric bikes because the Tuk Tuks are a little bit pushy and I felt gave pretty bad deals compared to other cities in SEA + not comfortable.

In Siem Riep electric bikes can be rented from: http://yp.com.kh/listings/kh72168-cambod...ike-co-ltd

I recommend this rental shop as the bikes could go 30km an hour which is pretty good for an electric bike. I enjoyed zooming around the historical sites.

Angkor Wat and National Museum was very beautiful and fascinating..

Siem Riep is a smaller city. I felt like it was a little bit of of a low key city and I would recommend to bring a girl though it's not impossible to pull if you put in some effort.

In Phnom Penh Motorbikes can be rented from: http://yp.com.kh/listings/kh72168-cambod...ike-co-ltd

you need to give them your passport when you take the bike in Phnom Penh so if you are getting a visa this will get in the way. Again I recommend a motorbike.

In Phnom Penh I went to Top Bannana, V CLub, Epic Club, and Pontoon and the rooftop bar at Phnom Penh tower. I felt like Phnom Penh looked a little bit like Malate in the Philippines. Still a relatively small captial city with only 1 million population. I got the sense that Phnom Penh had a lot more poverty that Siem Riep. Every city has a few nice spots though and the rustic lifestyle had some appeal, I talked to a few expats who have chosen to live in PP.

Top Bannana looked good though I didn't stay long when I went. V club I thought was really great though it's a bit like Pontoon. Epic Club had a bit of a 'hi-so' feel mixed with route66 that you might see in Thailand.

All in all PP is an interesting city, the girls look like the darker girls you'll find in Thailand and I actually now want to go back because they were pretty hot. A lot of guys look at Manila or Bangkok when looking to go to SEA but I would recommend to check out PP if you are down for a more rustic experience.

I just came back from 4 nights in Siem Reap, I should really done 2 days on PP only 2 days SR.

In this very hot heat and monsoon weather crazy to rent a motorbike. I saw way more foreigners renting them in HCMC recently then here in SR where tuk tuk are cheap if you negotiate good. I also recommend hotel where I stayed Angok Hollywood Bouquet Hotel
http://www.hollywoodangkor.com/

Many cool places to eat around the local as no need to always take the 5 - 10 min walk to Pub Street.
I also avoided the tuk tuk's who always offered "girls" or 'weed' as many times they are in bed with the cops for a shake down especially if you look like you might have money. Not much in night life as it's mainly couples, backpackers or large tour groups.

If you want to splurge you can pay $20 for a day Lexus RX300 AC car and English speaking driver to take you around for the day.

I also noticed a hippie vibe to the place.. never saw so many guys with nose rings in my life.
Also Kuulen Mountain and waterfall there with a large sleeping Buddha is jem that gets overlooked by most people.

Still the awesome temples make a detour to Siem Reap worth while.

The pierced guys might have been just one group, I didn't find it to be an usual occurence.

The atmosphere is laid back and the girl I was with was very passionate [Image: smile.gif]

Anyone know a good low budget place (<20$) in Siem Reap that allows you to bring girls?

^ I second that.

Also, is Pub Street busy 7 nights a week or is it more of a weekend thing?

My impression from talking to another tourist is that Siem Reap Riverside allows girls. The hotel is clean, has a nice little pool, and has a decent breakfast included in the price.

I stayed at the Hollywood Angkor Wat... they had a "guest" fee of $15 as I recall.

The only way you could avoid that was if you checked with her at the beginning.

Its called a joiner fee. Most places will not charge you, but its best to discuss that up front via e-mail before you even arrive. They will just want to see her ID and take a copy, which is also good for your own security. You can get half decent rooms for $15 but for 20-25, you can get a room with a bathtub, balcony, aircon and breakfast and a pool.

Most will also give long term stay rates. E-mail them direct, they all have a OM or e-comm manager who will assist you.

Best way to book is either Agoda.com or booking.com
