Candice Ooley, 23, of Clovis was booked into the Madera County jail just after 4 a.m. May 21 on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and other DUI-related offenses in relation with a fatal crash late May 20 on Highway 41.

Ooley was honored as a Buchanan High junior in 2010 in a Clovis Unified program that recognizes students who overcome personal obstacles to achieve education goals. Attempts to reach her family Saturday were unsuccessful.

The CHP did not immediately release names, but Varner said the man appeared to be in his 40s or 50s.

There were three other people in the Hummer, and all were taken to area hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. No children were involved and no one else was in the Cruze, Varner said.

There was no immediate word about the condition of Ooley or her unborn child. Officer Justin Montooth in the CHP Fresno office said Saturday that Madera County CHP officers still were gathering details about the accident. A statement would be released by Monday, Montooth said.

Madera County law enforcement officials were not immediately available to comment.

Ooley, who authorities say was driving on a licensed that was suspended from a prior DUI, was evaluated at an area hospital before she was arrested.

Cleanup lasted more than four hours after the accident.

Local to California, this shit really pissed me off, especially after she already had a DUI.

I'm awaiting to see if she gets a pussy pass.

I think they did try a 'healthy' menu at one time, but I haven't been desperate enough for food to visit.

Applebee's, like so many others, try so hard to cater to the largest patron population possible that they end up doing everything poorly.

My guess is she fell down the well of waitress-hood, a career of hooking up with a new carousel at whatever new restaurant or bar that will hire her- then fire her a year or two later- as is custom characteristic of the high turnover employment rates of the service industry. I suspect she's been working for tips and spending 30% of her cash take home the very same night at a bar down the street since she turned 21. Her daily life consists of dreading lunch shifts, bitching about all aspects of her job and the customers, and drinking away the last hours of the day, looking for someone- anyone- to take her home for the night and feel loved. Then, in the morning, while wallowing in self-pity she heads out with a small wad of cash in her pocket to buy a cheap pair of the latest trendy knock-off brand footwear to feel alive for just a few minutes before heading in at 4pm to help slice the lemons, starting the daily cycle all over again. She's going to start taking classes at the community college this fall though, you just wait and see.

She might not have been born for this life but this is the one she earned, one of endless fuck-ups, and needing other people to bail her out. This is certainly not the first time she's been in a situation like this- you don't go from Zero-to-DUI&Pregant overnight.

I just hope she has not already fucked up the life of the baby within, I can't imagine the level of stupidity or moral recklessness that it takes to be willing to do this and not expect to end up charred by any of the potential burners in this situation.
