Hello, All

After spending sometime in DR, I had a love for the Spanish language.
I thought i'd ask the great minds of this board if they had any ideas on how to achieve my goal. Not to mention, I hope to retire in and live on some Spanish speaking island. At the moment, I can't afford to live their in order to get true culturally immersion, so that is out of the question. I'm an IT guys so I can't find a job their unless I could work for some large U.S based company. So the next best think is to live with someone that can speak the language fluently e.g. native speaker of course I learn better from women

I'm far from fluent but have enough basic conversation skills to function. The trouble is that, I don't have alot of reinforcement when I return back in my own country USA. Has anyone every thought about getting a Dominican/Mexican/[Insert your fav country here] chick to live with you for 3 or 4 months in order to improve your language skills? I'd love to find someone that might want to move to Michigan could stay in my home for FREE, for a few months to help me master the language. I think this could work, but i'm not sure how to go about it. Where could I post offers for something like this and get a positive reply? Any thoughts/ideas?

One thing you need to put in mind is that dominican spanish is not the best spoken spanish, i have met few spanish people that couldnt even understand dominicans.

However i have met many dominicans that speak really good so you may want to find a dominican person who speaks decent. I know many interesting dominican women, i think they would love to move to the states if you could provide them a visa. What age range are you looking for? You just want them to live with you without banging them? How do i know that you will keep it real with them? I could definetely find you a good dominican girl that would live with you for a certain a period ( and i mean a real hot one), but i need to be sure that you wont force her into prostitution or any shit like that. Your idea is good, however im wodnering if you really been to DR, why didnt you speak to one girl while you were there? I dont know how good your game is but you could have gone to santo domingo local universities and approach tons of girls, make lots of contacts and i am sure you would have a girl who would love to move with you in the US. I know tons that will be up for it.

Yes, that is something to keep in mind. That is also the reason why i'd like to find a Dominicana. My primary reason would be to learn Spanish only. But, if shes hot and wants to bang me why would i say no I would want a chick 21+ as for me i'm a normal guy that has a 9-5, i'm not into prostitution shit, I just want to learn. If you want more details just PM me. As for bringing one from Dem Rep. I'm not sure how to do that unless you marry one or use a K1 visa. I don't really wanna cheat the system and give a girl false hope like that. I'm met a few nice Dominican girls, in fact my ex-novia is from Santiago, DR. As for me going to DR, Yes, I've three times and i'm going back in Aug. I personally would rather get one from NY or something so I don't have to deal with immigration stuff. Latinos are everywhere these days. Go to the local barrio and start being a regular at some bars. Get to know people, start a social circle. It's not gonna be easy, but it has to be easier than trying to import some girl from another country or region in the United States.

How about you just go to the Spanish part of town and get a girl. She doesn't have to live in your house, but having a gf would definitely help. Make sure you don't just learn from 1 person though, get out and talk to everyone.

I unfortunately live in Michigan, that big cold place up north just shy of Canada . I've only met ONE Dominicana here from NY that speaks Spanish fluently and yes shes hot but not the type I'd want to make this kind of offer to. I'm attempting to find places here where I can break into a Latino social circle but I find a ton of Latino's that don't speak Spanish, so that kind of defeats the purpose. I do have one lead for some place in another city that has a higher percentage of Latino's then my city.

Agreed, Hence why this is a difficult task and why I posed the question on this board. I'm hoping that someone has a unique idea to make it happen. My thinking about NY was maybe an undocumented person, maybe a person fresh off the boat or someone that wants to move and get out of the city and needs a few months of no rent and wants to live for FREE so they could save some money. I've researched the VISA process and it's NOT easy for a poor single Dominicana women to visit the states. You basically have three options:

1) Marry / Get Engaged (K3/K1 Visa) $3-4K
2) Au Pair (Nanny) (J1 Visa) Cost $8K (Reoccurring cost minimal wage)
3) Unskilled Worker Visa (H2B Visa) $3-4K (Reoccurring cost minimal wage)

I'm gonna try to find a social circle but a Dominican in my state is like finding a four leaf clover.

Does she have to be Dominican? Are you certain there are no Spanish communities in the entire state of Michigan? What about joining a meetup group for other people who are interested in learning Spanish? How about regular phone convo with a Spanish speaker or do you need to see her face to face?

Sounds like a an over-complicated method to me dude. My recommendation would be to live in a Spanish speaking country and immerse yourself in the country, meet girls in their own environment. Hell,, you'll even be exotic being foreign if you play you cards right.

You say there may not be career prospects? How bad do you want it? If you want to make it happen then go after it. I think trying to find the right girl or someone just so they can live with you to learn the language is not entirely the right way to go about it.

Certainly living in the country is a whole lot better...You get to learn a new language, a new culture, new landscape, and most importantly new women. I'm sure there could be opportunities in South America with the right skill set. I went to Spain with minimal Spanish and spoke fluent after a year.

Granted it was only a year, but I found jobs, met people and did things where I was immersed in the language 24/7..the only way to learn it to fluency for me. Sure you can learn languages in your own country, I don't knock that, but if you have the means and the facility, live in the country every time.

As for being a Dominicana that just a preference. I know there are but it's difficult to just join closed communities without knowing someone that can bring you in. Joining a meet-up group is good but i'm looking for more. I don't thing that an hour or two is going to cut it. I need 10 hours or more a day. Phone conversation would be good or even Skype but it gets expensive and people sometimes don't have the patience to help someone over the phone for long periods of time.

I am not really sure I understand your whole point of jumping through so many hoops and complications, all for being able to learn/practice a language with a native speaker.

It just seems like you are trying to turn something that could be a lot more exciting and fun, into a complicated mess.

I am assuming that going to another country and spending a few months or even a year or two there is not possible for you due to work, money etc. In this case, find a job with companies already there. Most of the big companies from the U.S. have branches or full fledged operations in many South American countries so start looking at their career pages and see if you can weasel your way in to one of the vacancies.

If you are good at what you do and have a decent amount of experience, I am pretty sure any company would be willing to hire you provided you are willing to settle down in terms of pay as per local standards etc.

I STRONGLY disagree with the 1 or 2 hours adds up theory sorry. Ask anyone that's taken 4 years of Spanish in High School if they can speak fluently. I think the only way to get fluent is to spend a great tell of time communicating in that foreign language. I hate to say it but it's obvious that you've never attempt to learn a foreign language and are not fluent. Again, When i say fluent I mean being able to talk to real people, I don't mean knowing the answers to some mock Rossetti Stone computer test. THESE WILL NOT MAKE YOU FLUENT.

Spanish is really not that difficult as a language. You have some really quick ways to learn. 1) Language schools in Ecuador and Guatemala 2) Summer session spanish classes teach you basic spanish in 6-9 weeks.

As i speak several languages, i'll break down how to learn languages here.

First of all, learn some basics. You can either attend a college class or learn it on your own. Learn enough so that you know some usable words.

Secondly, get some major exposure to the language. You can do this with an Internet connection. Or conversely, start watching Telemundo or Univision. Watch some movies in Spanish, listen to some music in Spanish. And watch lots of YouTube videos in Spanish.

Then, you will want to take the next step and either visit a latin country or get some heavy exposure locally. The Detroit area has a Little Mexico.
Visit your local latino population, call your local maid service (always well stocked with Latina chicks) unless you live up in yooperland.

Getting a foreign chick works best when you both have an interest in getting to know each other. THAT'S how you learn quickly. Because you're dying to tell her stuff and ask about her. Some random chick WON'T be the same.

LOL.... You are correct in your assumption that it has been awhile that I've actually lived with a women so I've forgotten about the headaches they cause. I'm actually gonna take the advice of a few of the fellow members and attempt to mingle in the hispanic community the issue is these please are like 2 hours away so its gonna be hit or miss and take alot of time. LOL.... We'll i'll tell you that i'm sincere in learning Spanish but without consent practice with human feedback it's difficult. I do practice each day but I lack the proper reinforcement.(Spanish class is in the works) Of course indirect pussy is good too. But at this point my desire to learn is far greater then pussy,i'd gladly take a UGLY chick in my house that is willing to teach me. As for the Detroit area i'm not familiar with it (I live in the East Lansing, Okemos area). I'll take your suggestion and check out the Mexican village. As for free OVER the AIR Spanish TV i've never seen that in LANSING, OKEMOS and EAST LANSING. I just bought a Roku for that vary reason it has a Dominican TV channel on it for FREE via the instant streaming.
