It strikes me as strange that such a policy didn’t already exist in UK? In France any migrant worker needs to earn at least 1.5x the minimum wage to be even able to get a temporary work permit. Permanent residency is even way harder.
I’m all for this kind of policy for the obvious good it would do to the native workers.

Painting a broad brush here. Interrupting any corrupt cultural chain through mentorship does help the host society. Lack of father figures and role models has been offered as an explanation for everything from white knights to gang members on RVF. Clearly this chick isn't an ideal role model, but don't discount music as an "instrument" of cultural change. Learning to play requires discipline, productive use of time, and grows self-esteem. Anyway I agree with this rule. £35,000 equates to £4,800 in income tax and £3,232.80. More than £8,000 seems like a reasonable contribution to your host nation.

This only applies to a small fraction of immigrants, the ones who enter the country based on the point system and/or because they got a job offer from a local company. Those are generally the immigrants who tend to contribute to society, at least financially.

This does not apply to refugees who breed like rabbits, mail order brides and the likes of Eastern European peasants and gypsies with EU passports who can move in and out of the UK whenever they want.

While this rule looks good to the low information voter, it actually does very little to stop immigration. It also lowers the average quality of immigrants who enter and stay.
