The "go to work, get an education, get married" advice was only applicable circa 1950s and before where things like marriage, fidelity, etc.for more socially valued, and women having reckless sex had more real world consequences, such as a lack of modern birth control, abortion, and a welfare system to financially take care of any bastard kids.

Hell the welfare state has more or less rendered the "beta provider" obsolete. Unfortunately guys who are either stuck in the bast, or have some naive Disney movie idea of "how women are" due to lack of experience just won't get it and will set themselves up to be exploited.

I've seen it enough times in my own life though that I'll never make the mistake again, there've been various occasions where I've been out to a bar or club, hooked up with a good looking women (some of who approached me first), then learned after the fact that she was married or in a serious relationship and "feeling unhappy with it"
