Career Advice for a College Junior

You're all making this too complicated.

Take the internship at Cisco.Pick up the skills that are necessary to do a good job with your marketing internship. Do a good job at Cisco.

That's it. The skills you learn along the way to an internship (as long as your diligent and actually make yourself useful) will be all you need.

Also, go thank your parents. If you were born to the bottom 95% of society or if they were simply less generous, you would be utterly fucked.

Yes so true thank your parents you're not going to be in a mountain of debt.

I would also leverage your parents connections to work in Silicon Valley.

I decided to join the merchant marine trade working as a officer in the near future. I like the flexibility and the time off that comes with sailing but can be lonely at times.

This. Once you take this internship it should put you on a solid trajectory from there. Jobs like product manager/marketing/account executive are often filled by humanities majors (from good schools) in silicon valley.

Doesn't matter if you are a history major when you have a connect like this. I still recommend double majoring in Econ, it makes it a whole lot easier to sell your "business" skills when you are in interviews even if you don't really have substantial skills at that point.
