Two Girls Have A Problem With Each Other, How Do I Get Them To Simmer Down

So come into my world for a minute. I'm running an event where I've been tasked to put together a team of girls for a sports tournament. My pool of women is not large, and I basically need every single one of them to participate.

My issue right now is that three girls (A, B, and C) hate one girl (D) because girl C hates girl D, and they (A, B and C) said they would not play if girl D plays. Girl C's beef with girl D is somewhat legitimate, but Girl D's intentions are in the right place if her methods were a little off. How can I convince Girl C to drop her issue with Girl D for the sake of the function? I know I will not be able to appeal to her (non-existent) reason, so what kind of emotional plea can I make?

Sorry if this sounds petty, but this is (unfortunately) a pretty important event and I can't take any advice I get from the people around me very seriously.

It really sounds like the simplest way to fix your issue is to pick up a random girl to join that they do not have beef with.

I don't know your situation, if you're a college student that should be pretty easy.

If it's like a company event, that may be a bit more difficult but there have to be other girls in the company you could talk to.

Basically, I think you are thinking way too small. You only need one more, it shouldn't be difficult to replace someone unless the rules of entry are strict.

Or, you could simply explain to all the women you will have to inform whoever is in charge that they are petty and you can not perform your duties because of them. That may whip them into shape.

Seriously could use more details.

In my opinion you need to address them as a group - own the room. Let them all know you've seen some petty behavior and it won't be tolerated. This is basic management 101.

I'm confused, is this for sex or are you coaching middle school soccer?

Tell A, B and C that if they can't deal with D, then they have to recruit another girl to replace her. Deal with D, or bring me E.

Don't ask, tell. Don't explain, command. Don't console their hamsters, lead them.

Get the group together and say:
"When you're in a sports team or at work you have to deal with people whom you may not like or want to socialize with. This is work and I expect you toorkas a team. That is something you'll need to do in life."
Add an example from your past if you wish.
Then say,
"When you're in this team/group I expect you all to act in a professional manner. If you can't handlethat you can resign."
If someone tries to pull the "We won't stay if X stays," your reply is,"X is staying. Whether you decide to stay or leave is up to you."

Adjust your tone appropriately depending on whether you're coaching a group of 12 year old girls or 40-year old women.

Recruit others as needed. Often enthusiasm, drive and willingness to work with others more than make up for lack oftechnical skills.

By the way the same works when there is afamily feud. You're inviting both A and B. You will not disinvite one or the other because they have a problem.
