Just a 3 day hit and run this time. Sort of a "scouting mission" if you will.

Didn't really want to commit too much time to what is sure to be one of the sketchier places I've been to. If it turns out dope, I'll consider a re-run and look to include Mandalay or whatever else is out there. Flight is peanuts from Bangkok.

Courtship in Burma is fucking crazy...

There is no nightclubs or anything, only fashion shows where you pay to wrap feather boas around girl's necks... it's bizarre. You pay bar fines if you want to take a girl home, not my style.
Sim cards cost in excess of 1000 USD so even contacting girls is near impossible.
Alternatively you can get month long sims for cheap 20USD.

The only way to hook in Burma is to go the captial, get a sim, go the fashion shows, exchange numbers and then try and shore her the next day. Only the really hot/high class chicks have phones. Alternatively, I'd give a pipelining a shot... I never thought of doing that.

FYI : In general Burmaese girls are fucking ugly.

There is at least one legit bar called DJ Bar, it is like a few kilometers outside Yangon. I didn't go because a taxi costs 5-10 USD each way. I don't imagine you can pick up "normal" chicks here. It is a conservative country, even with the ppl who go out. You'd need to get into social circles to even have a chance at getting to know a Burmese chick. Otherwise perhaps you can find an NGO worker or expat embassy staff member.

I did go out to some "club" in central Yangon. Forget the name but there's one street with a few Chinese-owned clubs and karaoke bars that are all shady. It costs a few bucks to get in. All the girls are pros but they just sit around doing nothing and won't bother you really. Eventually later at night dudes come in to drink with their buddies and then the weird ass model shows start. The night I was there it was about 7 girls and one guy and they danced to western music. It was all pretty bizarre. There also are "clubs" in some of the major hotels - google and you should be able to find out what the latest ones are. They all are just brothels basically for expats and rich Burmese.

Outside Yangon there is no f-king nightlife whatsoever except drinking with Burmese dudes in bars or outdoor areas. There is actually a strong beer drinking culture in this country at least for men and it's a good way to see local life and talk to Burmese, who are really friendly and interesting.

Overall though, not a place for nightlife. One of the different things about Burma is that most local women wear traditional clothing so you rarely see women in revealing clothing. I was here for a month and after a few days this got annoying. You take for granted being able to see chicks in skimpy clothing.

Anyway, other than that it's an amazing country. Really interesting and different.

I've never heard / read anything about it being sketchy, everyone I met who's been said the people were really great, helpful and friendly.

$1000 for a sim? Is that a typo? Where's the logic in that if you can get a monthly for $20!

If you mean via online sources isn't it near impossible due to complete lack of internet access in the country along with most websites being banned even if people could access them?

That was a typo.. it's actually $1500!

To quote http://www.myanmar2day.com/myanmar-infor...m-myanmar/

GSM subscriber lines in Myanmar are quite expensive and difficult to get one. Officially priced at around US$ 1,500, they are not only extremely expensive but also very difficult to get one with a long waiting list. Not surprisingly, the black market price for an official GSM SIM card is around US$ 3,000, twice the official price. As a result, GSM mobile phones are not for the ordinary Myanmar citizens.

The $20 sims are actually just temporary phone cards...

Crazy eh?[/quote]

It's a military dictatorship that regularly shits on its citizens, I would avoid it for not sponsoring the regime.

You can still go and just support local businesses and so on which means those that are continually getting shat on have a little money to survive. Tourism can only be a good thing, it will force the country to be more open.

I went to Burma. Best experience of my life.

Yangon:
-Spend the day at Schwedegon. I stayed there ALL day and only left to eat lunch. It looks different when the sun changes. One of the most amazing things I've ever seen.
-Spend another day just walking around.. check out the market. There are some beautiful parks near Schedegon worth seeing. I actually enjoyed the feel of the city. The military guys are scary as FUCK the first time you see them, but as long as you don't fuck with them and DON'T take photos of them or government stuff, they won't bother you.
-When you arrive, tell the taxi driver to take you to Sule Pagoda. This is near China town.. there are a bunch of cheap hostels in the area and some GREAT street food. Contrary to what most people's opinions, I found the food in Burma (especially street food in Yangon) to be VERY delicious.

Bagan:
-Bagan is a MUST see. Better than Angkor Wat, in many aspects. I took a horse carriage around from sunrise till sunset for 14,000 Kyats. Great deal. Perhaps the most mystic place I've ever seen.

Mandalay:
-Amazing city with lots of hidden treasures. Mandalay hill is cool as fuck.. its a huge hill in the center of the city, filled with pagodas. If you go to the top you can see the entire city.
***if you go to Mandalay Hill, there's a temple near the base (it has TONS of identical looking white pagodas.. i'll look up the name of it and let u know). There is a lady who is always there, her name is Cherry. Amazing woman.. she'll give you a tour of the entire city if you want. If you go to Mandalay let me know and I'll give u more details. SPending the day with Cherry was life changing

Inle Lake:
-Inle Lake is beautiful. FOr about $15 you can have a local give you a ride around the entire lake. You'll see floating villages, floating markets, silk weaving factories. Really cool place. The scenery around the are is outrageous.
-Trek from Inle Lake to Kalaw: I took a 3 day trek from Inle Lake to Kalaw. Kalaw is a small town in the mountains. I had the BEST MEAL OF MY LIFE in this place. Nepali food.. the place was called "Nepali Food Center."

That's all I saw in Burma. I wish I had seen more though. Burma is NOT dangerous for tourists. Locals face severe punishment if they harm tourists, as we are the main source of income for the country. As long as you avoid large public gatherings, don't get in the way of the government, and MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS you'll be fine.
There are so many beautiful things and hidden treasures in Burma it's unbelievable.

***WARNING- bring tons of cash if you go. There are no ATM machines in the entire country, and they only accept CRISP, CLEAN, and UNBENT USA dollars. You can change money quite easily in Yangon.

Oh, I just realized that you wanted advice on picking up girls in Burma. BAD place to pick up hot girls. I must have seen about 5 hot girls when I was there. The nightlife in Yangon is hilariously bad...

I was there in 2010. I had mixed feelings about it at first. Very dirty and lots of indians ( not a fan of them). I had a 10 dollar hotel room which was ok. Burmese people are generally very curious and friendly. I went out once to a club ( dont know the name, but in the center) It was a regular club with regular disco beats. Lots of pro's there and i met a few nice burmese who invited me to stay for the water festival. Didnt go because i had the feeling they were gonna try to hook me up with a cousin or something. The country is super conservative. I tried to shore a pro but they were super consistent and asked money even though i banged lots of pro's for free in Cambodia. I was the only foreigner in the club and im tall and blond. still couldnt pull it of in Yangon.

Was not into flagging back then but now i regret not trying harder to get that rare flag.

bagan is definitly woth while seeing.

The country is very conservative. Kissing = getting ready to marry.

Forget about daygaming there. The girls are decent looking though.

That said, a Thai buddy of mine worked at a casino up there and was banging chicks while there - he's got the Thai "in" and is a definite player but it shows the girls are dtf. He showed me a picture of one naked and her body was off the hook. I also know there are some Burmese women in Thailand who work the bargirl scene.

If I go, it will be from the start, till end of April.

Thanks for the link. I was not planning on doing it for the nightlife. Since I plan on going alone, my focus is more on learning about myself, rather than partying and going for girls.

I'm heading to Yongon, Myanmar this Friday (2/27/15). Bought the ticket and going to the Myanmar Embassy tomorrow to get the visa.

I was in Si Racha and met a German guy that spent 3 weeks in Myanmar and said it was great. We didn't discuss nightlife which I was not concerned about as the only interest I have is cultural.

Here are all of the places he mentioned that are must sees:

Yangon:
Shwedagon Pagoda

Bago
Lake Inle
Bagan
Golden Rock
Hispah

I would like to spend more time but I have a friend coming to BKK and I need to meet him when he arrives.

My tentative plan is to fly to Yangon then take a day tour to Bago, then return to Yangon. Go from Yangon to Bagan on the overnight bus and arrive early in the morning. Go to the old temples, go up in the hot air balloons and bike. Then to Mandalay to catch flight to BKK.

I used Air Asia app on my phone to purchase cheap tickets.

Anyone have any info on Burma?

Not sure that this is the forum for you to look for information, if you're only interest is cultural. Try trip advisor?

I've referral links for most credit cards, PM me for them & thanks if you use them
Strip away judeo-christian ethics ingraining sex is dirty/bad & the idea we're taking advantage of these girls disintegrates. Once you've lost that ethical quandary (which it isn't outside religion) then they've no reason to play the victim, you've no reason to feel the rogue. The interaction is to their benefit.

Bagan is amazing. Myanmar is a must visit.

Burmese girls aren't that sexy and are pretty conservative, although they will move quickly with some kind of commitment.
